Once a year unless something comes up

My girls have only been to the vet once in the past three months (since we moved), but according to their records (which i just checked), they went a total of 27 times to their vet in Louisiana. That's 13 times for Lila in a 7 1/2 month span, and 14 times for Lucy in about a 5 month span! And i'm not including the times I went by there to pick up heartguard or flea meds or any other medicines they might have needed! Or the few times they didn't charge anything, like when Lila had her stiches out... So I guess I was normally in there about once a week, sometimes more... I guess that seems like kind of a lot, lol, but it wasn't like there wasn't something wrong with them every time I went! I mean, Lila had her hypoglycemia, her mystery alopicia and skin scrape, her anal glands were always full (although after I figured out that the vet charged $25 to express them, while the groomers did it for $5, I stopped bringing her there for that, so that only accounted for one visit independent of anything else)... Then She had her spay, her valgus deformity and x-rays for that, and ringworm... And then Lucy had chronic ear infections, either yeast or bacterial or both... And she had ringworm, too, diagnosed on a separate visit from Lila's, and it would NOT go away! Oh and then her spay as well. And then checks and recheck's for everything... Not to mention their vaccines! I think I was spending between $200 and $400 on them, EVERY MONTH! WITHOUT taking food and preventatives into account!!! So the fact that we have only been ONCE in the past 3 months since moving to Pennsylvania is kind of a miracle! Although Lila's ears are looking kind of red and she has been scratching, and I have been fighting Lucy's "leather ear" over-the-counter for awhile now... And their yearly vaccines come up soon, don't they? So, jeez, if I only had to spend $250 in FIVE YEARS...! I honestly couldn't even imagine!!! Definitely party time!!!

But you know what? Even though i was waiting tables at the time, so I was by no means rich... My girls are worth every penny I ever had to spend.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my girls are just under (Lila) and over (Lucy) the one year mark. So I'm sure I have many years of happy vet bill spending on the way!!! :D

Buster and Maggie go every six months for a check-up and fecal testing and if it's time, they get their heart worm test. If needed they go in before then. I usually don't leave without a $150 - $250 bill if nothing is wrong. If they have blood work, fluids or other tests, it can be more. But, I don't do a lot of worrying about their health.

I did find with mine that the vet visits seemed to taper off after the first year- I mean obviously like I said I still go a number of times each year- but not as often as when they were puppies- so hopefully your visits will as well- :)

LOL, us too! I've only had Roxie for about 18 months, but I swear we've been to the vet a million times. She's had her regular exams and shots, been spayed, had issues with her LP, and had a recent bout with an intestinal infection. I am so paranoid about everything!

Glad to know I am not the only one that runs to the Vet when I feel something is wrong...that is why I got Tessa pet insurance...We have been going about 3 or 4 times a month lately with all her allergy problems...

We have an ongoing monthly bill, heartworm meds, flea prevention, food, allergy shots, teeth cleaning and check-ups...its always something:rolleyes: If my bill was $250 just every 6 months, I too would throw a party!!

Once a year or as needed...Yearly annual exam and Bordetella vaccine...Rabies is every 3 years.

We have 6 dogs ages 14yrs to 5months. They each see the vet once a year for their 10,000mile checkup and shots. I pretty much see the vet office once a month,pick up meds for older dog,Bordetella every 6 months, annual checkups and any illness (cause there is always something). So I am on a first name basis with everyone in the office,when I call I identify myself and they ask who needs to be seen. My poodles were some of our vets first clients when he took over the practise that was in that office.

We go probably a few times a year. Anytime that they need vaccinations or need to see a vet, we are there. Khloe had a few extra visits this year because she had a uti. Even if there were no problems, we would still go annually. Vet bills should be expected when you have pets!

I'd say every 6 months or so. Just because each pups' boosters fall about 6 mos from the other so we just take both dogs in since we're going anyway.
