btw, we still haven't been told what the "awesome" health guarantee is. |
@ Capt Noonie Yes I agree, when I got Pixies Canadian Kennel Club papers I saw that she was only 4 1/2 weeks old when i bought her. I was told she was 12 weeks old, my little boy was 3/4 of a pound when i got him and he was 12 weeks old, pixie was over 1 1/2 pounds when i saw her and so i had no reason to doubt her age when they told me she was 12 weeks old, until I got her papers. Her contract stated i was to pay 3000.00 for her, plus they got pick of the litter from any litters she had and they got "free" stud service from my male. Pretty hefty price I think. Well I was also told she would be about 5-6 pounds full grown and when he weight kept creeping up i asked her breeder about this and all she said was "Well do you want to trade her for another dog?" I said No, I love this one and i do not care if she ends up being 30 pounds. Like I could just trade her because she was a little bigger than I expected (by this time she was 10 months old). They brought me a girl to breed with my male and later they said she only had 1 puppy so my male must be sterile...I asked her if she had lost her mind, Obviously if she had a baby and Pixie had babies he was far from sterile. Then about 2 months later they brought a little girl to me to be bred by my male, it was Pixies sister and littermate and the spitting image of Pixie but she was very tiny, 3 pounds. Other than that they could have been twins. I flat out said there is no way i am going to be responsible for having this little girl bred she is far to tiny, they said no she will be fine just do it, it is in your contract. I told them to take me to court because I was not going to be the one responsible for her getting pregnant. By this time i was getting a little more wise to puppy mills, and greeders and generally unscrupulous people that bred these little guys so i told her she would never again get another stud service from my male, I did not care what the contract said. With Pixie's litter she told me she got pick of the litter as per my contract....I lied to her and told her all 3 babies had passed away, i just could not put a puppy into her hands. After i had Pixie spayed and told her she would not be using my male for stud I never ever heard from her again, which was more than fine by me..... |
@ FosterMom Bravo for you! I will admit that I would have also told her exactly where she could put her contract in exacting and fine detail! ;) |
and if there ever is a problem and the owner doesn't want to go to the vet for advice, who is here to give it, yes the "bullies" ETA: this post not in response to the above, that just wouldn't make any sense. |

Wow, just got done reading this whole thread... Despite the headace, I'm going to also state my opinion since I have a puppy from a Puppymill/BYB. To well, the OP and whoever else can reference this for the better- The advice provided on this forum are opinions that are given from personal exerience. It's not to be taken as "attacking" or even personal for that matter. However, it's like when people ask me "Oh, is your boy a teacup Yorkie?" In other words, if more research would have been done (and I don't even mean on this site, but from breed magazines, books, etricles etc.) The stories of like this one regarding a bad breeder, or possible puppy mill wouldn't be so frequent and frustrating. With that being said, there is in fact a check list so to speak that you need to do for a good breeder. Trust me I know how easy it is to get wrapped up in the puppy buying process. I too justified getting Gizmo with "Oh I saved a dog from that situation." But like LadyJane said, there was a little girl or boy in a shelter that I too could have purchased and saved. Does this make me a bad person for buying Gizmo? Absolutely not, but I'm not going to make excuses for where I got him from or for why I did it. I had a weak moment, and hopefully (medically and emotionally) I won't regret it in the long run. I guess what I'm trying to get at is, take what people are saying on this forum and run with it. Don't make excuses, don't get offended. It is what it is, and you bought a dog from a BYB or shady breeder, that's it. And in the future you can do what 107Barney said, and do your litmus test in regards to a breeder. Know where your baby is coming from. Take the same precautions as you would if you were getting a skin kid. With that being said, I'm just going to state that people have a tendency to be overtly sensative with regards to this forum. It's really hard to have "tones" with black and white typing. But, that's the beauty of one-way communication. This site is for researching, take it for what it is so stories like this and "teacup yorkie" can be minimal. |

No matter what the OP decides (and I think he already has his heart set on this puppy) the YT forum will be here for him - even IF he goes against the advice given. That's just how it works here. And we do understand that once you have seen or held the puppy - it's HARD to walk away. I got many words of advice about my purchase of Lucy and I chose to ignore them. AND I ended up with a sweet little dog with a lot of health problems. $$$$$$ But no one on here ever said 'I told you so" or ever refused to listen or help. So there you go. The advice is there - use it or no - but when you need help with the new puppy - the experienced folks on YT will be here to help. |
