dogs in clothes, what do you think? i personally love dressing my little bella up but some people say its cruel! i dont think it is, yeah if the clothes where choking the dog or somthing but i love it, yeah some people may think your mad but just would like to know what others think? seen some little dresses i love on a website i might buy :P x |
I'll admit, I USED to think it was a little rediculous unless it was a little chihuahua or something in the winter time, but I never thought it was "cruel". I don't think it's fair if the particular dog hates it though. I think it's cute for the most part. I'm VERY simple about it though with Alice and now that it's gotten warmer, she's been going nekkid;). I also have a "hoodie" for my beagle only because she's old and I think gets cold in the winter, I only use it when it's frigid outside though and she never seems to even pay attention to the fact that it's on. I do have this adorable "tank top" that dh picked up for Alice at big lots for $3 (he was in the "dog house" that week prior to this;)) and it says "sweet" with a cupcake picture made of little rinestones - Alice will definatly be sporting that at cookouts this summer:D I do LOVE doggie Halloween costumes and special things for holidays. |
I have alot of clothes and I used to dress mine all the time but I rarely do now. I dont see anything wrong with it though unless the dog doesnt like it. Mine dont mind |

My dogs own almost as much clothes as my kids and I won't even go into the amounts of collars(for id tag use only), harnesses, leashes, charms, bows and belly bands they have. Neither one of my dogs minds wearing clothes and half the time they are shivering if they aren't because they are so small and one is half hairless due to being Yorkie x chinese crested. I don't care if someone laughs ;) they're my dogs and if the "cruelest" thing I do to them is dress them up then so be it. The way I see it is that there are millions of truely abused, homeless, etc animals that would probably wish that their worse problem in life was wearing clothes. :animal-pa I say that if it isn't really bothering your dogs and it makes you happy then that's what you should do. :D Although my husband will only take the boys out in public with him if they are in all skull gear. |
I also wanted to add that my boys get a lot of "nekkid" time too. :) |
I'm not gonna lie -- I think sometimes it CAN be ridiculous. Some people take it too far. I mean, as long as the dog is not unhappy or miserable in it, I'm not going to judge. But I do think it's unnecessary for a dog to be in a frilly dress while at the dog park, for example. I firmly believe in letting dogs be dogs, too. With that said, I am not against dressing up a dog either. Dogs in clothes are adorable, who can resist?! I think sometimes it's just fun... I enjoy dressing Jackson up for holiday's and he doesn't mind a simple t-shirt or a hoodie. Or for taking certain pictures, maybe I will put him in something. In the winter, when it's cold, I will put his jacket on him because he loves to be outside for long periods of time and he can last longer in the cold with a warm coat. I take him out in public dressed when it's winter, but in the summer I don't. There's really no necessity for clothes for him in the summer so he's usually "naked" :) Though I DO have a collar obsession, LOL. He's always decked in new collars and ID tags ;) So we all have our 'things'. |
I'll admit...I USED to be one who thought people were crazy for dressing their dogs. :D Now I'm the crazy person! Lulu has more clothes than I do & she doesn't mind wearing whatever I put on her. I even had a tshirt custom made for her to wear to my daughter's softball games (it's a team shirt ;)). A few of the dads laughed a little, but for the most part everyone loves Lulu & can't wait to see what she is wearing when we go out. She is usually wearing a dress in the summer & a sweater in the cooler months. And of course she has matching bows for each outfit. :p |
My girls have lots of clothes. They wear them out all the time. The people at the stores just love to see them. |
Mine like clothes. In the winter they wear fleece pajamas when it is cold and drafty. Daisy wears little dresses sometimes and the boys wear t-shirts. I think it's cute and everyone loves it! |

You will LOVE this site!!! gangsofnewyorkie.com I found the coolest harness I HAVE to get!!!;) |
Sophie has a winter jacket, a hoodie, one summer dress (she doesn't much care for) and a couple of t-shirts. Mostly she wears nothing but her beautiful natural coat. She will wear a scarf but refuses to wear a bow. I wish she would wear a bow but they stay in for about 60 seconds . |
ZoE only has a few special occasion dresses. But I do go nuts with sweaters for winter though! And I'm starting to collect harnesses & matching leashes cos there are just to many cute patterns out there. She's an indoor dog, so she needs sweaters in winter (and I want to get her boots this year too :D ) And hair bows....omg...she has hairbows to go with EVERY item of clothing she owns . She doesn't seem to mind her clothing as she helps to put it on by stepping into everything. My last yorkie LOVED sweaters! She had a basket of them below where her leashes were hung and when she was cold in winter, even in the house, she would pull one out & drag it to me to help her put it on! She was a character! |

I personally think only sweaters/coats in the winter. Maybe on a special occassion a dress but I feel like a dog shouldn't be dressed in a dress or shirt every day unless its cold. |
Cruel? Funny how some people think some things are cruel, like spoiling our babies when they leave their untrained dog in the yard, ignored, intact, going crazy when there's a bitch in heat in the neighborhood. THAT is cruel. Dressing up dogs, no big deal. I just wish dog clothes weren't so dang expensive. I can only afford to get Uni the absolute necessities, like boots and hoodies. and a few t shirts and tanks. and bows she doesn't wear, and costumes. |
I admit, I'm guilty,:embarasse I used to think people were nuts dressing their dogs up left & right....then came Princess!:D It started off out of practicality to keep her warm as she'd shiver outside, yet demand to be out there. Then there were holidays, and sweaters, dresses, winter coats....now that it's (occasionally) warm I've been trying to get her to go "naked" just to be comfortable, but if she sees any of her clothes she freaks out. When I go to dress her she will literally thrust her head into the opening, I think they've become her security blanket or something. So now I'm trying to find her "lighter" things to wear for the summer.:cool: I've only got compliments so far, and of course she eats that right up! |
Well if its crazy, then I am nuts..lol..Foxy is always dressed, but its always in a hoodie or t shirt. Nothing crazy, but then again she loves clothes, when I bring out the bag of clothes shes ready to get dressed..lol.. |
I enjoy seeing all the pictures of the girls here on YT with their dresses and bows and it makes me wish I had a little girl doggie too. Sammy has lots of t shirts, sweat shirts, a NY Yankees jersey, raincoat, sweaters, winter coat. When it's chilly he wears a t shirt and in the winter he has jammies too. I think they look adorable dressed up. When my neighbor's daughter got married her golden retrievers were dressed in their bridemaid dresses!! So cute! |
Gracie is always ready to change clothes too. My granddaughter says she is "naked" if I don't have clothes on her. I love putting Gracie in little dresses. She is just so sweet. |
I used to be a member of another forum and these people would always post about how cruel it was to dress dogs- yet these same people buy 4 inch wide leather collars for their dog- with tons of metal/ gems/ etc on them- in my opinion that has to be way more uncomfortable for a dog to have that weight stuck around their neck then a lightweight t-shirt or dress. People just love to complain about stuff- the best dressed dogs on this site are also some of the most well taken care of dogs I have ever seen. |
My feelings are very similar to Brit's. It seems that the owners who dress their dogs often usually love them very much. I just - don't see any point in doing it all the time. We do it sometimes for fun here and out of necessity. I don't think it's wrong, persay. I'm just not one to dress a dog every day. I try to remember that Ellie is a dog, not my daughter and not a doll... She does have some clothes and they are CUTE and she probably will get more, but even if she didn't mind wearing them, it's not something I'd want to do daily. Besides, I love feeling her fuzz and it's hard to do when she is covered in fabric. And...as cute as clothes are, her naked self is MUCH cuter! :) |
I love clothes on Brielle! Some think I'm crazy and I just don't care:D |
Personally I think its cruel not to dress them if there sitting there shaking because they are cold. I dress Callie in mostly clothes that are comfy and to keep her warm but I do dress her in a costume for pictures for halloween. Callie has learned how to almost dress her self I hold the head hole and she put her head through then I hold the leg hole out and she slides her leg through and we do the other leg then she prances around waiting for everyone to tell her she so cute lol. I do think dressing them when its hot outside and they are going to be outside for a long time is cruel but at night when the ac is on she normally has something on or she shakes and is cold. |
I dress my pup when we go on an outing but not at home. Yes, I do think she has more clothes than me. lol. |
Mine nekkie dogs don't have any clothes. I would do it if I felt there were a reason to do so, like if they needed protection from the elements. They don't seem to be fazed by the cold. I did put Jezebel in a onesie to protect her incision after she was spayed. I would rather spend the money on other things for them. |
My guys freeze to death at nothing and they also get hot at nothing, if that makes sense. If they are cold they wear t-shirts around the house and they have nice things they wear out. I don't dress them all the time, just 90% of it:D |
Yep, Zhoie is a coldie butt, so if she shivers, she gets a shirt...I aim for her comfort. I do like to make her a pretty girl when we go out :) She does have dresses, hoodies, t-shirts/tanks (her favorites), nighties, raincoats, winter coats, boots, booties and bows. LOL. Yep, we like to dress but not around the clock, she gets her fur time everyday, sometimes not so long, sometimes longer....depends on her need for comfort. It's like I tell my DH....all these things are very much needed ;););). |
As long as the dog isn't unhappy or trying to rip it off, I don't really see the problem. I have a box of clothes for Rhia, but she haaaaates them. :P She'll tolerate a shirt or sweater during winter but that's about it! |
I used to dress mine all the time but now it's just in the winter. I have a few t shirts for the holidays but that's it. |
