Diamond Yorkies 1 Attachment(s) Howdy everyone, I'm going to be getting my first little yorkie from Pam at diamondyorkies dotcom. His name is Nicky and he's the on the first page. Just curious if anyone has heard anything positive or negative about this breeder before I pick up. I called her vet and verified that she takes good care of her litters and spoke to her on the phone as well. Just want to double check with people in the "know" about yorkies before I buy. Thanks! Well, It's just my opinion but I've had Yorkies for about 20 years but I would NOT buy my baby from Diamond Yorkies. The first reason is because they use APRI to register some of their dogs, they breed off standard colors ( they have a chocolate stud), they use the word "teacup" and micro tiny and the biggest reason is because they think that is OK to have pups go to their new homes between 7 -8 weeks, which is way to young in my opinion!! I'd keep looking!! |

Are you able to go visit the puppy in person, before purchase? If so, I would strongly suggest that you go see the puppy and parents in person. |

Too many red flags.....micro minis. A lot of this award and that award that are very meaningless. I see nothing about a contract/guarantee.....Not a place where I would begin my search. There are some great reputable breeders in Texas.....I'm heading out that way on Wed. to visit a couple of them.... |
You might want to read this thread, it has lots of useful information about how to pick a breeder. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html |

Thanks for bringing it up.... To the OP there is some additional information in the YT Library. |

Can I tell ya something that really puts me off when I go to a breeder site, posing pups with tacky crap |
:thumbdownYou need to Run Run Run the Other Way, Fast & Hard. There is No Way I would ever buy a pup from that breeder. They stand for Every thing that you Don't want in a breeder. |
So on their site if you look at their Party Stud Prince, pic 1 & 3 are the same dog but pic 2 is a totally diff dog, Hmmmmm:confused: |
Lots of red flags: "Peanut is going to be a tiny little guy".... "His parents are about 3 1/2 pounds each"... "His short cobby body and tiny features are amazing"... "Previous litters have also grown to his parent's size"... "He has a spunky personality and makes us laugh quite a bit"... "He is AKC registered and would make a nice purse puppy. He is 1800 plus shipping." :thumbdown Breeds for tinies "The optimal time for puppies to be placed with their new human families is at 7-8 weeks of age" :thumbdown Doesn't know leaving litter earlier can cause lifelong temperament problems :thumbdown Dogs used for breeding rarely meet the breed standard |
My favorite: Parsley will be MICROSHIPPED. That is one heck of an accomplishment if you ask me tee-hee |
The time to research the breeder is a long time before you get a pup. Buy the breeder first, then the Pup! Mardelin and the others are spot on. Red Flag! |

Anytime I see "teacup" or "micro-mini" I run. |
I am in the same boat as you but you have to really interview the Breeders. Like everyone else said, look for red flags and any inconsistency in what they say or list on their site. I have come to realize that a great deal of the people that you run across are simply about making a quick dollar. I actually had one that told me yesterday to leave her alone because I seemed sweet and she couldn't do this to me! Do what???? I quickly hung up. It is so crazy to think that people would take advantage of people that actually want to spread love to a dog. Research, research, research and research again! You can't ask too many questions! |
I am just a pet owner and have owned yorkies fo 14 years now. I wish 14 years ago when I got my first I would have had access to the knowledge that ppl shared here. My 1st was 8 wks when I got her - way too young to be placed, but I didn't know. She had health and personality "quirks" all of her life. For the 2nd yorkie I owned, I had and listened to advice of ppl who know this breed well, and there is definitely a difference in personality and social skills in a dog that has been raised by a good breeder who keeps them AT LEAST 12 wks and who takes the time to socialize them. I would find a breeder who keeps their pups longer. Diamond yorkies might take good care of their dogs, I don't know. But pups need to be kept and properly socialized for longer than 7 wks. |
Check them out carefully. Dogs are like people, they all have their own personalities. We got Ginger (our first Yorkie) from a pet store almost 8 years ago. We didn't know any better then. She was very young, I think 6 weeks old. She has been a wonderful dog though and we love her dearly. She has some minor "imperfections" but otherwise very health. I know she came from a puppy mill (in Missouri) but was unaware of that at the time. Use your head when checking them out rather than your heart and emotions. Whatever choice you make, I'm sure it will be the right one for you. I'm sure that no matter where you get your puppy you will love it and be a wonderful dog pawrent. Good luck to you and your new puppy. |
I agree with what everyone else said, don't do it! Just the fact alone that they have him posed next to a football to show how "tiny" he is is a bad sign in itself. Don't fall for the website claiming all this crazy stuff, "micro, tiny, teacup blah blah blah bad bad bad. I would never ever buy a dog being "shipped" to me, ESPECIALLY at only 8 weeks old! Read the link that was posted about "how to find a reputable breeder", this one is NOT. Read this recent thread too - Sick Little Wiley Coyotee It's not the same "breeder", but it'll help you understand what we're all talking about. |
Must be we scared the OP away! |
Scared OP away or he/she bought him already. |

They may not be posting but I hope to God they are reading & have backed out of that deal. |
When I got my first yorkie I did not know alot about breeders and I got him from a backyard breeder, he was very healthy and tiny. He was 14 weeks old when I got him and he weighed 3/4 of a pound. 2 years later I got my girl, they said she was 12 weeks old and she weighed just over a pound so I thought they were telling me the truth, turns out they were a puppy mill and when I got her registration papers imagine my surprise when I found out she was ONLY 4 1/2 weeks old!!!!!! Be very careful!!! |
Doesn't look like they are paying any attention whatsoever to the breed standard. Not one I would recommend. Interesting they and "buddies" haven't joined yet and defended themselves, oh well, maybe tomorrow, LOL. |
