Treats What kind of treats do your yorkies like to eat? So far I have wasted my money because she doesn't like any of the treats I buy. |
I give Princess Purina Tiny T-Bonz or pieces of Beggin' Strips for either a potty treat or to reinforce a behavior. I also buy Sweet Potato Fries & give those once in a while as well (she only like them on occasion). For training I buy Beggin' Strips in bulk (way cheaper)...but they are way too much in whole for a yorkie. I cut it into about 10 pieces & sometimes even break those pieces in half, depending on how much work we're doing. This is her favorite treat ever, I think she would prefer it to chicken, but again, it's not the most healthy. The trick with Princess is the treats have to be moist, anything crunchy or cracker-like is just a waste, maybe your pup is partial to a specific texture, etc. as well? |
One of the YTer's told me about frozen peas, pieces of apple, pieces of sweet potato, carrots. I also use little bites of cheddar cheese. |

We use the waggin train duck jerky or waggin train chicken jerky. So far I have yet to meet a dog who does not adore them!! |
I only use all natural treats like dehyrdrated sweet potato or banana. I also use fresh fruits and veggies, small pieces of cheese, bits of white meat chicken. For on the go, I get these little gerber bites that are dried strawberries and bananas- they are tiny little pieces perfect for treats. Most treats out there are garbage. |
Levi will eat anything in the world now, but he was pretty picky when I first got him and refused to eat anything crunchy. Now that his tastes have expanded, these have become our favorite store-bought standbys: Wellness Pure Rewards jerky, Whole Life freeze dried lamb, Fruitables, Natural Balance Healthy Bones, and Zuke's Mini Naturals. For long-lasting chews, he loves bully sticks. He also very much loves pieces of apple, carrots, celery, blueberries, green beans, pineapple, peas...pretty much any fruit or veggie I will let him try. |

My guys love frozen green beans, banana, apple, sweet potato and for a crunch treat I occasionally give them Natural Balance LID sweet potato and venison treats. |
What kind of treats are you using? Duke, is not a big fan of the bakery style treats, but loves the all meat treats. If you are trying all biscuit/bakery style, maybe try the fruits/veggies suggested above or an all meat treat. |
Mine love pretty much any kind of treat lol, but they are definatly partial to the Zuke's brand - I get the Bakes (they're crunchy) in Peanut butter & Blueberry and for little Alice I use the Mini Naturals-Peatnut butter (they're very tiny, so perfect for training and they have a soft chewy texture). My dogs also go absolutely crazy for freeze dried liver treats (I buy any brand as long as it's 100% liver with no additives). Alice also loves little pieces of apple, pear and banana when I'm eating one:D |
solid gold turkey jerkey treats chester loves and the roasted chicken treats the soft ones by buddy biscuits all good stuff |
Thanks everyone these are some great suggestions, I will be headed back to the store tomorrow |
I use raw baby carrots and boiled chicken breast cut up into tiny little pieces for training treats. I stopped buying "dog treats" about a month or so ago. Most of them are like junk food for dogs. |
Teddy is very picky when it comes to treats too! Whenever he is at the vet or groomers and they offer him a treat he turns his little nose up to it. He loves carrots, bananas, cheerios and his absolutle favorite are Wellness "Just for Puppy" treats. |
