How smart is your Yorkie? I lost my tv remote control & was looking for it everywhere. Well, Princess found it for me, she's so smart! Sometimes when Princess gets scared or spooked by the vaccum cleaner or thunder, she hides under the bed. I thought she got scared bc I was uncovering my bed, lifting the blankets, tossing the pillow around to look for the remote & she went under the bed. I looked down & told her not to be scared & she was lying down right next to the remote! lolllll like she was telling me 'mommy, it's right here'. I was amazed @ her intelligence...or was it just coincidence?:p Anyone have stories to share? Would love to hear about how smart your Yorkie is!:D |
He hasn't located a remote yet!! WTG Princess :) I'm always surprised he remembers exactly where he left his ball in the yard when it's time for the nightly game of fetch |
Rhia is definitely intelligent. :) She will take my socks from me when I take them off after work and places them in front of my closet, in which I keep my hamper! She also knows the sound of the bag of cheese in the fridge compared to other packaging. It's the only one she will come for. She also knows who "meemaw and pawpaw" (my parents) are. I'll tell her we're going to "meemaw's house!" and she will freak out and get on the couch, ready to have me put her harness on her to go! |
How cute! She knew you would look down there so just stayed there till you did to show mommie where the all important remote was. Give that girl a treat and a big hug from another person who is constantly hunting for remotes!!!! |
Daisy is real smart. She knows all the different names of her toys. "The Purple Hippo", " The Racoon", The "Kunk", (that's for "skunk"), Her "birdie", etc. I can also go tell her to "get a bone" and she will. I can also go tell her to get her "blue" bone or "green bone" etc., and she will. These dogs are SMART. |
I made a list of all the words and phrases that I could think of that Snickers knows and I came up with at least 70+. He is very smart...sometimes a little too smart. A high energy, determined dog who is smart can be a big troublemaker! |
Wow they really are smart, just this morning when I was getting ready for work, Bentley took his bone and put it under the bed, and started to bark at me looking at the bed. It took me a few minutes to realize that he was telling me to get his bone so I got the bone from under the bed and the next thing I know he moves the bone to beside the rocking chair came over to me barking again,I got the bone and he did the same thing all over again. I finally realized that I wasn't playing fetch with him, he was playing fetch with me. LOL |
Good girl Princess! I'm sure she did understand the word remote and knew what you were looking for. My boys understand a lot of language, too much. They always know what is going on, and I think Max can read my mind, lol. |
They are unbelievably smart! Ellie now knows when I brush my teeth at night that it's bedtime and she put's herself to bed in her ex-pen....so cute! She also hit's our leg with her paw when she wants you to do something :) |

We must have the same toys!!! All of Tyson's toys are stored in a basket by the television. If I tell him to go find a specific toy, he will dig through the toys until he finds the correct one. Also, he knows everybody's name and will go get them if I ask where that person is....Smart little guy!!! But he is soooo stubborn....he acts like he doesn't understand stay.....WTH |

Too smart. But very very loyal. Barks at dogs on the tv. Runs into a car if he knows them very well ie mum dad . Without me getting in first, Goes to the window if I mention his companion Cora, or family names. Is very safely conscious of the road. Only walks on the inside deff knows how to get his own way if he wants to play a game. Has learnt some tricks. Knows almost all the names of each stuffed animal toy and will retrieve it. |
And can now open doors. I am amazed at this, |

It's amazing how much they understand! |
We have a gate up to keep Cinders in 1 room while we work. We have tripped over this blasted thing several times while its up. Cinders must have seen us, and when the gate is open/ off, she backs through the doorway- keeping her eyes on that dang gate!:D It took me 3 times watching her do this to figure out that's whats she's doing when she walks through backward.;) When she's a few feet away from it, she turns and to runs to me. I guess she doesn't want to trip over it like mommy does, she has more grace than me!;) Or more sense :D |
I was packing the suitcase to come home. Mia ran and got her ball. She jumped into the suitcase and laid her ball in there with the clothes. I laughed and said it was a cute coincidence. With that, she came running in with her favorite bone, and placed that in the suitcase too. Then she jumped in, and laid down. She looked up and barked and wagged her tail as if to say "Mommy, I'm ready to go home now". They are so darn smart! |
That is such a cute story she was like Mom common it is over here:) |
So cute! Good girl! There is no doubt Brody and Mia are smart...intelligence is a Yorkie trait, and one of the most fascinating of their features. I cannot imagine them ever having to find the remote at our place though...not with it grafted to DH's hand. Say, you don't suppose she knew where it was because she's so smart she hid it there, do you? :D |
jasmine only knows George which is her favorite curious George toy. |

Brody, too! Plus, he knows where each toy 'belongs' in the house. There are two 'toy boxes' and he will tote an incorrectly placed toy back to where it 'lives' according to Brody. :D Mia likes toys but she knows just how toy centric Brody is, and loves to get whatever toy he is currently 'favoring' and taunt him with it, then she lets him have the toy and 'laughs' at the joke she's played on him. So funny...:D |
My yorkie knows where I'm going based on the pants I wear. Home/lounge pants. Dog Park pants. Work pants. He can tell and he reacts differently when I get dressed. He knows how to turn on my TV. He taught himself how to open his treat container. I've gone through 8 different types of containers in the 4 years I've had him. He learned how to take down the baby gate I have for him, I had to buy a different kind of baby gate. He's so smart he had me CONVINCED for the first three years of his life that he was dumber than a box of rocks. It turns out he's so smart he had me completely fooled. He would mark and pee on the carpet and in his crate at my old apartment. He would pee on my bed. I thought he was stupid. Turns out he's amazingly smart. He acted out because he hated my two roommates and would want me to stay home with him. I taught him to shake my hand and play dead in about 10 minutes. Sometimes I think he's smarter than me! -Victoria |
Okay, believe it or not Winston makes a fake poopy...just so he'll get a treat. I always go outside with him, he'll do his usual wandering...circling... and squat to poop, but there is nothing there. He keeps his eyes on me at all times...then he'll come running to me for his poopy treat. It took me awhile to figure this out, yep, he's smarter than me. |
These stories are so great, funny & our Yorkies are so smart! I had forgotten that I had even started this thread...not so smart loll! Momo is very vocal & he has a way of communicating his wants & needs...he'll scratch the trash bin, which means 'gib me my ball'. His ball is in a container up on the counter by the trash bin. He does this every time I start preparing their meals. He wants his ball bc he's hungry! |
