One year ago today, I did not lose my baby
 
It has been exactly one year since the horrifying night that Layla became paralyzed and she had emergency spinal surgery. We found out she had IVDD, and a ruptured disc changed our lives forever.

As most of you know, we didn't give up hope, even when a vet told us she should probably be put down if she didn't regain use of her legs or bladder. Well, with forums like YT, the Yahoo group Dodgerslist, and much research, we realized she'd live a happy life no matter what. She had been telling us the same thing the whole time and we just needed to open our eyes and see how happy she was :)

Tonight I put together a little video, starring our little girl, to show everyone she doesn't know she's any different, and she can do anything any other dog can do! I hope this can give hope to anyone else facing the same situation :)

Layla is so lucky to have you as her mommy. :) I am glad she is doing well and that she is such a happy girl! She is adorable.

I've never been one to give up hope, even when the odds are stacked against it. You have reinforced my resolve about this, and you have given Layla your love and her life. It is so obvious by seeing this how loved, happy, and confident Layla is. You have taught us all something very valuable because of Layla's story. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about every step of the journey that you and Layla have taken together. You are both heroes to me. It's amazing how one's life can change in an instant but how beautiful life can be when you embrace the challenges that life offers us.

You know, I never knew the story behind Layla, and why she is on her "wheelchair" in your avatar. What a touching story, and how determined you and she was/is. I'm sure she is glad you never gave up on her! I couldn't help but smile when I saw her little tail.

Lindsey and Scott,

This really made my heart smile. I have followed this thread from the very beginning and have laughed and cried right along with the two of you. You did an amazing job with Layla, all the therapy session's etc. This story is a true testament to the determination and love you and Scott both have for Layla. Thank you for sharing your journey...Layla looks wonderful and very happy.

I have followed your story from the beginning and you guys have such incredible strength! I can't even imagine having to face such an ordeal but you guys and Layla didn't let anything get you down -- she looks like an extremely happy doggy who leads a GREAT life!

:) We smile anytime we see that little tail! She technically can not control it. Most of the time it just lays flat. A few months after her surgery, we would see wags every once in awhile without touching it. We'd wake up in the morning and she'd see us and do some slow wags. I'd get on the floor to play with her and there'd be slow wags. Her rehab vet just kept saying "It must be reflex" but finally she started saying "She's a special little girl and she hasn't read the text books!" One of the last times she was at rehab, the vet called me to say she saw the tail wag herself, when one of the attendants walked in. She made the attendant leave and come back again, and when she came back again, Layla wagged again :D Medically, it can't be explained. She should not be able to wag her tail. I think it's just her spirit shining through and telling us she's still happy :)

Lindsey thank you for sharing Layla's story and her recovery. Watching the video I had a lump in my throat to see how much she is loved by both of you. Layla is one very lucky little girl to have you both in her life caring for her and loving her. Thank you for all that you did to make her well. It is stories like yours that keep me coming back to YT. :hug:

That video made me tear up a bit. Your baby is one very special little girl who is blessed to have you as her people. There is no doubt that she is happy and still enjoying her life with you very much.
