Is it wrong to ask for a lower price? This is my situation and I'm not looking for advice to pick another breeder, because if it comes down to it I will eventually pick another one, but right now this is my situation... We found a man word of mouth who has 2 yorkie female puppies for sale. He lives in our state but the yorkies were in another state. He told us he would would bring the dogs so I can see them if I wanted them I would pay him. First he said it was going to be a week wait, (this was last week) they were suppose to be here with the pups on Monday this week. He later told us that they were coming on Weds. this week. a few days after he told us Weds, he eventually told us TODAY Thur. they were coming to our home. We confirmed yesterday and he said that he was still going to come. Now he told us today the people bringing them are driving and doesn't know when they will be here. He already lowered the price once for us when we first talked about the dog... do you think its wrong to ask to lower it again because of all these changed in when he is going to bring the dogs? Thanks for your input, but please I'm not looking for advice to find another breeder at the moment. |
Some timing issues don't mean that a breeder should have to lower their price. As long as breeder is keeping you updated, then I would pay what is being asked. That said, the whole thing sounds very odd and I'd be extremely uncomfortable. |

I am with Ellie May on this one. First of all the guy has got to be a broker. There is no way a breeder has to wait for someone else to bring puppies. With that being said I wish you the best with your new pup. |
OH!! Definitely ask for a lower price!!! And when you are done with him I have a Brooklyn bridge for sale that I will deliver to you next week. Lots of luck !!!!! |

run... sounds fishy for sure. I thought broker even before I read the posts! You will be so much better off finding a good breeder. Even if he lowers the price you may be getting a sick puppy that will cost plenty! Good luck |
You may not want to hear that you should get a different breeder but you really should because it sounds like a puppy broker. That is what I got my yorkie Callie from before I knew about puppymills and brokers, most brokers get there puppys from puppymills. Even if the puppy looks healthy when you see it doesn't mean anything before a vet sees it or even what problems it will have in the future. Callie has grade luxating patella in both back legs, mild collapsing trachea, and the vet believes possible arthritis in her back. Also when we first got her she ended up with diarrhea that turned to her pooping blood. |

No way would I buy a puppy from this person. The whole story is just too strange and doesn't even sound right. Just take your time and find a good, reputable breeder. I just hate when people jump into this too quickly because they want that puppy now. Just remember Good Things come to those who wait. |
I understand that you do not want us to tell you to go with another breeder. However I have to say that you do have to take caution for yourself and the little one you are wanting to bring into your life. Please let us know how things go though. |
I'm with everyone else. Forget about the price, the whole thing is shady. I'd tell him never mind and start doing research for a reputable breeder instead. |
I wouldn't buy the first yorkie that you run into. Buying a Yorkie isnt like buying a purse. You cant "return" the puppy if he is sick. Sounds very shady and the guy doesnt sound like he cares who buys the puppy, he just wants to make some cash, I honestly think you need to do some research, look into some REAL breeders that care about their puppies and raise them with love, attention, and make sure they are healthy. Its a good chance you will have more problems than what you are willing to put up with, if you buy a puppy from this "guy". |
Walk away...quickly....better yet...RUN AWAY!! I knew nothing about Yorkies in January when I decided I was going to finally get one. THANK GOD the byb (didn't know that term at the time) couldn't get a health certificate (duh...her puppies weren't healthy). She kept telling me different stories each day. I was so mad that I couldn't get my puppy, she stalled me for 2 1/2 weeks, I decided to check out the AKC website. I found a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL breeder and my puppy is soooo much cuter and HEALTHY than the woman who kept giving me stories. When she was finally old enough to come home to me, he had me meet him at his vet so I could have her checked out. He was so thorough and always checks on us and wants to see pictures of how Jazi's doing. Trust your instinct. As much as you want a puppy, don't support byb and brokers. |
His wife lives in another state and he moved down by my state for his work. The pups are his and comes with mexican pedigree and health guarantee. His family members is traveling down here with the pups by car. Its hard to get a purebred down here in Mexico and my neighbor recommended us to him thats why we know he's good. Their dog is perfectly healthy. But should I ask for a lower price because of the time delay. |

It's not like when you order a pizza and if it's not there in 30 mins, it's free. |
I would drop him like a hot potato, you said you are not looking for another breeder, he doesn't even sound like a breeder in the first place. |
I have seen it all, trying to bargin shop for a yorkie- sad. Not what you want to do. |

I agree with this. If this guy is what you claim, a good breeder, and he is just having issues bringing the pup down, why would you ask for a lower price? Because the pup isn't there when you originally expected? I think you wait, and buy from him if thats what you want, and pay what was agreed on, or you go an alternative route. I just think it seems strange to ask him for a lower price for this reason, especially since he is driving the pup down to you. |

Around 10 at night he calls and says I haven't been able to get ahold of them, they are having car trouble. The only reason why I couldn't get them here faster is because the airlines don't allow dogs on the plane during the holiday??? Never heard of this. I'm going to give him a just a few days more until we are done with him. Thanks All. |
Let's rethink this. If you were here in the States and a pup was held back by a breeder for what ever reason (say, they didn't feel the dog was ready to leave it's littermates or conditions weren't safe for traveling), would you ask for a lower price then? Not likely. And if you did, a good breeder would probably tell you to pound sand. I do have to take issue with something else you said. Just because your neighbor recommended him and their dog is healthy doesn't automatically make him a good breeder. Even BYB's and puppymills have their share of fans and healthy dogs. I truly hope for both your sake and the pups that he really is a good breeder. If that's the case, then the wait and the price are worth it. |
This is just my opinion, and you are free to ignore me, but... I wouldn't buy from the person. Obviously they are not his dogs to sell, so you don't know where the dogs are coming from or what their sire and dam are like. You get what you pay for in a lot of instances in life...I'd be weary of not knowing a thing about the pup... As for asking to lower the price? I think that is the least of the worry here. |

and if he is I would stay far far away from any dealings with him! |
Why would you want to give someone like that your money? I would never pay someone for that type of service. How healthy do you think this puppy is going to be? How traumatized do you think this puppy is going to be...?? He is treating you like crap, how do you think he treats this puppy? |

My two cents...run far and fast from this breeder. Not someone I personally would want to deal with, but of course thats only my view of things.. |
I think we are losing perspective here... It doesn't matter about the price anymore. This is a SCAM. I wouldn't trust him at all. He doesn't return calls, isn't there when he is supposed to be. Sounds like a puppy broker dealing with stolen dogs. Sounds like a movie I saw once where it was babies not puppies. RUN |
