Biopsy Results Are Back for Cookie :( I was hoping the vet would call and tell me not to worry. This is what happened today ... I decided to call the vet today since the results should have been in already . He told me to call him if they did not call me. Well the biopsy is leaning toward one of two problems. He told me it's seems to be leaning toward Microvascular Dysplasia or Portosytemic Shunt. It could be either thing. He told me if it was his pet he would NOT do another invasive test. The only other test to find a Portosytemic Shunt is very complicated he told me. He said since he has no signs that I should just take care of him and watch him and have blood tests done in 3 months. I told him I would not want to do that other surgery because if it is a Portosytemic Shunt , there is NO cure for that because the shunt is inside the liver. He's on a low protein diet . IF it's MVD , I'm already giving low protein diet so that should help a lot. While I'm talking to the vet on the phone Cookie is just sitting on the floor looking up at me like saying "What's wrong ma?" I talked with my husband and we have both agreed to love him for however long we have him. We will never know if it's just MVD or a Portosytemic shunt. How ever long I have this little guy has taught me so much about loving animals. I guess he is a hard lesson that I have learned because before him I could NEVER understand how a person could let a dog lick them in the mouth lol. Now Cookie has taken food out of my mouth to eat, licks me all over my face, sleeps with us,I actually enjoy bathing, dressing him, taking him out... He has no symptoms and he might never have symptoms the vet said. Genie |
Oh, I'm so sorr the news was'nt better. We will keep you all in our Thoughts & Prayers. (((((((Cookie))))))) :littleang |
I'm sorry! Enjoy each day with your baby. |
Genie, I'm sorry he didn't give you a clean bill of health, but you never know. He may live a very long and healthy life. I suppose the best thing to do is to look on the bright side, the optimistic side, and not worry about what you don't know. When you look at him, you see a healthy little guy. Also, with the care he receives from both of you, he'll probably be a healthy little guy. Also, the time we have with them is never enough anyway. The years flitter by and those years just seem like months. Enjoy him and make each day special for its memories. :) |

I hope he is perfectly healthy from now on. |
That baby was sent to you for a reason. You said you have already learned a lesson from him. You will learn the most wonderful unconditional love you will ever have while he is with you. He might live to be an old man. I wish that for him. Listen to your vet and if things go as he says, then you know you can trust him. Remind us to pray for your baby every now and then as we pray for our own and LOVE HIM TO PIECES!!!! |

Genie, Have you ever read or heard of an old book titled "Angel Unaware"? It was written years ago by Dale Evans [most people probably don't remember it]. I haven't thought of it for years, but as I was reading your post, it suddenly came to mind. We don't know why these little ones come into our lives but it doesn't take long to realize it's the sweetest surprise! For some reason that we don't understand, we sometimes have more patience & stamina for these sweet babies than we did with our human children! Perhaps it's because we know that they won't grow up and leave home but will be with us for their entire lives, regardless of how long or short those lives may be. I believe that for each and every one of us, these babies are God's little surprises and we are just supposed to love & care for them for as long as is His plan! I pray that Cookie's life will be long and healthy! |

I am so sorry. Zeus and I will be thinking of you and Cookie and sending you hugs. |
Hey Genie! Sorry to hear the news about Cookie, my daughter was lookin over my shoulder when I was reading your post. She said that the Dr. at the Emergency Center does the Portosystemic shunt operation all the time. It may not hurt to have them look over Cookie's test results and give you a second opinion on everything. It's your decision tho, maybe he doesn't need any more poking and prodding right now. You're right tho about just enjoying the time you have with him, these lil guys are so fragile, even without health issues things happen all the time and they could just be gone. So we have to enjoy every second we have with them. This doesn't need to apply just to our furbabies either, we should take this philosophy to all of our loved ones. :D |
Crystal sends Cookie lots and lots of smushie kisses!!! |
