With Gypsy, our yorkie, I picked out her name before even knowing we would get a yorkie. With Puff, dh named her cocoa puff, due to her color and since she is his dog, i let him name her. For Seymour our Pom, we named him after we got him. On the way home from the breeder's we tried several names outloud. We got him in Seymour TN so that was what we went with. Harley our newest edition was called Edgar when we got him. My mom suggested Harley and it stuck, though as loving as he is we should have named him Herbie the love bug. My considerations in picking a name is what does it sound like yelled, and what does it shorten to? I tend to shorten names. Sometimes what it shortens to is not very nice sounding so that gets cancelled off the list. |
:thumbup:Oh yeah....love the name Quaid....so cool for a dog and different. |

I LOVE the name Cooper. It was one of my choices for Jackson. I love Max, too, I just know sooo many dogs with that name so I don't think I could ever have a Max. Though I think it's such a great name for a boy dog. Quote:

I also like unique/different names but don't wanna get TOO out there or weird, ya know. I thought Jackson was really original when I named him but I've met a lot of people who say their grandkids are named that, or their children, and a few pets. I think I've met 2 doggy Jackson's. |
I think the name Quaid is cute. When I got Daisy I wanted to get her home to see her personality to see what name would fit her. But the breeder wanted me to name her before we left so he could have her trained to know her name by the time we picked her up three weeks later. Her mommie's name was Blossom so I thought a flower name would be cute. I came up with Daisy on the spot. When we got her home she responded to Daisy and as it turned out, I think the name fit her perfectly. I have no idea what I would have named her once I tried to match her personality after she was home...the name "Feisty" comes to mind. lol I thought Daisy was a name that would be unusual since I had never met another Daisy...little did I know...haha |
I'm with you--I LOVE last names for first names! I named Quinn after I got her...I had originally planned on naming her Reese, but I decided Quinn suited her better. I will say, I would like to name my next dog Avery (I'm a girl-dog girl!) I like Quaid...I think it's cool to have a unique name that not every dog has! I'm also a sucker for the name Mason for a boy! |

I like the name Quaid. I think you should use it when your ready. :) |
Yes, yes, yes! When I went to meet her for the first time, the question from my friend s was: well does she look like an Armani? I thought it was so original until she started going to doggy daycare. There were already three other little doggies in the small dog group named Armani...LOL! |
I have had a total of 10 Yorkies, 3 of which are still living. Out of those 10, I only named 3 of them as I got them as babies. The other 7 were Rescues and the Foster Mom's named them, so I stayed with those name's since they knew them. I love the name Quaid. |
I think of dog names all the time and I have a bunch I like alot, probably over 10 names, and I won't be having 10 dogs in my whole life time. Haha |
I spent so much time trying to figure out a name for mine while I was waiting to bring her home. This was after I had met her. I have never named one before I met them or brought them home though. |
Never. I always wait till the pet starts to feel at home and shows their personality then name it. |
