Sometime my friends really disappoint me! Some of you already know that I have been concerned about my little Cassie with newly diagnosed glaucoma. And I have received great support from my fellow YT Members. But sometimes my friends really disappoint me and hurt my feelings when it comes to my dogs. I actually made a New Year's resolution this year that I wasn't going to say a word about my little ones unless someone asked. And then, unless it was a fellow pet owner I would not go into detail. How unfair is that! I have four little furbutts that are the absolute joy of my life and I have to deal with people that roll their eyes or act bored when I mention them. I am lucky that my boss is an animal person so when I need time off for sick puppies or vet visits I don't get any flack but a couple of my co-workers are pretty rude about it. One thinks I ought to take a shotgun to Cassie and put her out of her misery instead of paying "good money" on medicine. "Why bother keeping her alive?" THAT actually brought tears to my eyes and now this jerk is telling everyone that I am a crazy dog lady. Another co-worker once asked me if I needed psychological help because she thinks I'm a hoarder! OMG! What is wrong with people? I know I live in a small town and it is in the middle of farm country so a large number of my friends and co-workers come from farms were animals are property and not pets but really? It all makes me more determined to keep my New Years resolution and just not mention my babies. How sad. I eve took the pictures off my desk which brought comments about how much better it looks now. I HATE it! Thanks for letting me vent. I don't see any solution so I'm not going to ask for anything but understanding from my friends here on YT. God love ya all! L |
Wow..I can't believe a coworker said such a harsh comment to you about precious Cassie! The older I get, the more I relate to the saying, "The more people I meet, the more I like my dog!" I know, being there for our little loyal fur friends as they age is such a hard thing, but they would do the same for us! Cassie is such a lucky girl to have a mommie that takes such good care of her!:) |
In sorry you have such nonunderstanding co workers and friends. This is the only place I really feel I can talk about my furbabies openly also. An example of that is one of our cats was ran over recently and my daughter was crying and upset and my mother in law said to her its just a cat. All of our pets are our babies not just dogs or cats and its hard for non pet owners to relate. Im glad youve got us that you can confide in |
I hate to say it but those are not "friends". Call them acquiantances or coworkers. I am sorry for the lack of respect and support you have recieved. You havE plenty willing to lend an ear plus sopport here. Gl |
How cold hearted and just plain mean can some folks be??? I know comments like that hurt. I think they are a sad lot. You should probably feel sorry for them as they will never know the love of our yorkies. I would put your photos back on your desk and ignore those who are so heartless. They just don't get it and never will. Like you said, you always have us :2hearts2: !! |
I know exactly how you feel!!! I went through the same thing with Layla's paralysis and it really hurts. I had one friend, who had a dog of her own, and she told me she loves her dog and everything, but if she was in my place, she'd just put him down. I said "Even if he still loved you, licked you, remembered all the commands you taught him, and just wanted to be with you all the time? Even if he wasn't in pain?" and she said "Yup, it's for the best" I was at work when she said that to me, and I went into the bathroom and cried a little. Of course, a couple of months later, she met a guy she liked, but he didn't like dogs, so she gave her dog away to someone else to make him happy :( I would never do that. She did not love her dog like I love mine. Some people just don't get it, and that's why it's great to have places like YT! They can say things about you all they want, but they will never know the kind of love we share with our animals, and I would rather have that love than to be accepted by closed-minded people. |
I'm so sorry, Lou. I know how much that hurts, I've had many of the same things said to me. No one seems to understand how much my little ones mean to me, how happy they make me. Sometimes the words are very hurtful and cruel especially when they come from 'friends'. Put your pictures back on your desk! Don't deprive yourself of the enjoyment you get from them. These people won't change and you shouldn't have to. You are perfect just the way you are! Be proud of your babies and love them with all you have. Big big hugs, Bonny |
I'm sorry they don't undertsand. I too have had someone say something like to me. When my recent babies that went to the Rainbow Bridge they were saying they coudn't believe how much money I spent on them just to have to let go when it was time. THEN, that same person, asked why I was adopting dog's that have medical problems! Saying I could have spent that money on a good dog !!! The two I just adopted don't have medical problems, but she said they will, they are used dog's. ARGGGGGG Needles to say I haven't spoken to that person since. |
Try not to feel too bad. Some people just do not see dogs as having much more worth than a barn animal and others don't even recognize they hurt or feel pain! I just think it is how they are raised and sort of their world view. In reading older books, I am constantly shocked at how little consideration was given to the dog and I think that mindset carries over in so many to this day. Otherwise, how can one explain Michael Vick & those horrible stories on Animal Precinct and others about neglect and cruelty? Then there are those that feel a great deal for animals and do not think they should have to suffer through any serious ailments, as animals like the dog have no say in the matter of their own treatment and should be allowed to leave this life with dignity, so to speak, as many humans say they want to do when seriously ill or losing one of the critical senses that denies them life as they want to life it. Others, like we here on YT, see that dog's are true companions to mankind and are here to help us meet each day side-by-side with undying love, as moral and, in some cases, very real physical support. We don't want to see them suffer unduly but don't want them put to sleep the moment anything goes wrong either. We think there is some middle ground and that our babies should be given a chance to live after becoming ill or injured and only euthanized or allowed to go peacefully and gracefully when their quality of life as a dog is gone. Thank goodness we have YT and others like us to help each other through the stress and fear of one of our babies being sick or injured. We, here, understand you 100%. |
It makes me sad to think that people miss out on the joy of loving a dog. It is the most unconditional love you will ever have in your life! And that people have to be jerks. Ya know, I have a second family, they might as well be my real family and they are not really 'dog people'... they've never had dogs, don't really have a desire to, etc, etc, but they LOVE hearing stories about Jackson. They even had a picture they printed out on their fridge. They understand that he is like my baby and they love to listen to me about him (I do try not to OVER-DO it...) But I come from a family full of dog lovers. It's so normal to us to have dog hair everywhere, dogs in our bed, sometimes things get messy, etc. My aunt, grandma, uncle, parents, etc, all have dogs and all were their babies. |
Wow! How comforting you all are! I just checked my User CP before I log off and have eight replies already! How can I not believe that I have true friends on this board! Friends that really understand me! Thank you all! |

I understand how bad it makes you feel. But try not to let their comments or lack of support make you change how and what you do. When I worked I always had pictures of my dogs on my desk and if people didn't like it too bad. Some would comment you have more pictures of your dog than your daughter, to which I replied That's because my dog is prettier and better behaved (of course I was kidding, well sort of) and that shut them up. I feel sorry for people who do not have the same love of animals we do as the are missing out on a lot. Hugs |
Oh I feel you on this one! Many people here think I too am the crazy dog lady. I have come to realize that there life is empty and sad. I talk about my dog all the time, have pictures and dont care anymore. I bring her to work when she has vet visits ,etc. Luckily my direct boss tolerates my actions..lol..She used to have a yorkie way back when that was the love of her life..lol..so I got lucky there. But as far as the rest of the bozos..I dont care anymore..lol.. |
I am sorry for you and unfortunately I know what you are going through. Some of my friends are the same way. She says do you have anything else to talk about but your dogs, I say yes but nothing that is as important as them lol. I do not care what they think I will keep talking and be the crazy dog lady. As far as that co-worker who told you to take a shot gun to your fur baby, I would not speak to that person about my pets ever again. She is the one who needs help. If you ever want to talk about your fur babies pm me. I am all for the dog talk :) |
I can relate to rude co-workers and "friends". My fiance and I inherited an older female cat from his former room mate. She needed to be completely vetted as no one had ever tended to her needs. Long story short about a week before she was going to be spayed I noticed she had pus-like discharge. She went straight to the vet and neded emergency surgery due to pyometra. It cost us over $1000 and one rude co-worker said, "Are you crazy? I would have just told them to kill it!" Some people just DONT GET IT!!!! I have a shih tzu also - they are the sweetest dogs (and very stubborn). Cassie is beautiful and I wish you many more happy years with her :) |
...just another thought Lou. When you put your pictures back on your desk be sure to include the winning photo of the Cutest Yorkie Butt of 2010 and tell them you put that one out just for them ;)! |
I'm so sorry people can be real jerks. I have actually had a family memeber say there is more to life then that small dog. It really hurts when people say something bad/rude about them because they are like your babies. You actually have to feel sad for these people because they must have never experienced the love and companionship of a dog. |
OMG! They say those things to you? I don't know if I would have been able to keep to myself on that one about the gun....:( When ppl say things to me like that about my dog, I say something like, I like dogs better than most ppl, they are smarter. haha! Actually, I just used that one yesterday. :D |
Im so sorry they said such harsh, mean things to you. Until you love a dog like your own child, they will never understand....but we do!! You are a great person...POO on all your co-workers! |
I agree that these people aren't your friends. No true friend would ever say anything so hurtful. I think that you should put your pictures back on your desk. If it makes YOU happy, then you shouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks. They are the ones missing out on the unconditional love of a dog. Who gave them the right to judge you and what makes you happy? |
They just don`t get it. I think that you should put your little dog`s photos back on your desk and let their little faces make you smile all throughout the day. |

Lou, do not let their archaic ways of thinking change who you are. They are but shells of human forms wandering the earth, until they really 'know' the love of a precious Yorkie, they will never be 'whole' in heart or spirit! Just to be so unaccepting and judgemental of what is so true and dear in someone else's heart is callous and rude, to say the least. They were deprived of love as children and adults, and are trying to find it in partying and shopping! And just remember, we could do what they do... and love a puppy or two. And not miss a beat, and be kind and accepting of others passions, and tolerant of others' differences. It is Okay to be different. If we were all the same, the world would be a bit boring. When they make rude remarks, I would just tell them... Look, I can understand that you may not 'get' me, but my pups are like childen to me. I choose to feel this way, and if you don't like it, and can't accept that they are part of me, then please do not make stupid remarks, I really don't care to hear it, in fact, I have heard it all before. If that is all you have to offer, then, please, don't even stop by my desk... just keep walking. On the other hand, for those who have children, I understand the love you have for them, and would never say anything out of line or insult you for loving them, so please just extend me that curtesy and allow me to love who, what, where and when I choose, and keep your inappropriate comments to yourselves. And I want to see pics of your desk, redecorated, with a big 8x12 glossy of the winning 'World's Best Yorkie Butt' Contest photo of Adie in the middle! And make another sign to frame and display... 'World's Best Yorkie Mama', because you are, and here, at YT, know that you are loved and very respected. And don't you forget it. I declare this 'Yorkie Pride Year' at Lou's desk! Show that Yorkie Pride, lady! WooHoo! :D |
argggghhh I don't understand those type of people and don't care to. Loving our dogs, I believe, makes us better humans. I would hate to have to work with people like that. Their lives must be a bit empty without the undonditional love for and from a dog.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Here! Here! Let's hear it for kjc's statement and all YT'ers who love our dogs and other peoples dogs and will stick up for our right to do it in the face of rudeness and thoughtlessness. |
Well apparently they have missed the new survey that was on CBS Sunday Morning this past Sunday. 90% of Americans consider their pets as part of the FAMILY!!! So exactly where does that put the other 10%? :-) |

Wow... some people are unbelievable... I have to agree with others that have posted.. those people are NOT your friends! All they are is people that drift aimlessly throughout their miserable lives and try to make you feel bad for something you should NEVER be ashamed of. They are just jealous of the joy you have in your life. I say put those pics back up on your desk and be proud of your babies! Talk about them whenever u want... if they don't want to hear it they don't have to listen! I would rather be in the company of my dog then a "human being" like that any day! Don't let them get you down! <3 |
I think we need to schedule a flash mob of Yorkie owners to show up with their pups at Lou's office one day! If I lived closer, I'd send my biker DH over with little Peek a Boo to take you to lunch! Let them say something rude to him! Desk decor: Don't forget to hang your YT Calendar... (Peek's featured this month!) :D :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork I have to get a new one, Peek peed on ours! |
when my dad died some of those I thought were my closest and dearest friends were not their for me at all, sometimes life presents little surprises that make you rethink your social network |
