Getting ears to stand
 

Here is what I use and recommend instead of taping the ears up. I read it in a book and I think somewhere on here.

Use Tear Mender a fabric adhesive. You can find it at PetEdge, Walgreens, WalMart, Joann Fabrics, Ace Hardware.. here are instructions on how I use Tear Mender

To prep the ear you need to clean it and then shave the hair off; off the insideas well as the outside of the ear leather. Then cut a piece of paper bag to fit like a triangle in her ear. You want to place it on the inner side of the ear leather. Make sense? The purpose is to hold up the flopping part of the ears. Make sure to fit it before you actually glue it on the ear leather. Once you cut the bag to the same size of the triangle of the ear (doesnt have to be perfect), apply Tear Mender to the paper and then put it against the inner leather and press. Press for about 3 min. Make sure not to apply too much glue or it will squirt out the sides and get too messy. It dries clear and blends in nicely with the ear leather, you can't even see it..lolol. After time the hair will grow on the ear leather and then you can cut the hair that is still attached to the paper OR you can actually wash off the tear mender if you have to..that's harder because you can get water in the ear. Once you apply it don't worry about getting it off. It wont bother her, just don't put too much glue and make sure the paper is fits nicely against the inner leather. The oils in her skin will also loosen the glue over time.

This does work- I have used it before on some hard to stand cases or when a older dog drops his/her ear.

can you do this with an 11 month old yorkie that had ears that would have been up if her new owner (ME) knew what i needed to do when they were pups?

You sure could try. It can't hurt. If there's the slightest chance this will do it! Just make sure you shave the hair off the ears completely.

I tried something similar to this. I read about it right here on YT.
I used eyelash adhesive (not the waterproof kind) and a manilla envelope. It worked great and the glue just rolled right off when we were done. I just massaged her ears and it came right off. She never acted like she even knew they were there either. I only left them on for 3 days, too. They started getting loose and so I took them off and her ears stood. I was also feeding her a tsp of cottage cheese once a day. Here are some before, during and after pics...

How long does it usually take for the ears to stay up?

You should definitely keep trying! :D My little Max has HUGE ears & it took about 3 weeks for his ears to stand. I just kept them taped up, until they finally stayed up on their own.

I haven't tried this yet but I did rub them to help with circulation and they stood up for a couple of weeks but now they are back down I've started rubbing them again and they are picking back up a little. Is it normal for the to do that?

Oh, I would definately keep trying. It IS worth it. I have a yorkie-poo and his ears are floppy and I love them that way. He had the poodle hair on his ears and it weighed them down. On my yorkie, though, I wanted them to stand so I tried that trick and it worked. Did you shave them? That fur sure can weigh down those little ears.

You are right - floppy is cute too.

But I want to try as much as I should try to get them to be the standard....which is perky ears.....so I'll give it a go.

And if they stay floppy, so be it in the end :)

I did shave them.....and it made quite a difference - but they still didn't stand when I took the paper off :(
