| You can visit the YT Library to read about the basics of breeding. Some of the things you will need to think about: Only good representations of the breed should be bred (coat, ears, topline, bite, etc., etc. etc). He should be evaluated by someone (preferably a show judge) before going forward. If you are looking to do the breeding thing the right way, then attend shows. Find a mentor. Learn from them. Buy books. Study them. Realize that your boy's temperament may change. He may be focused on getting to girls. His sweet personality could change. Know that if you own the stud, you need to be there for the females' owners. If the pups don't find homes or there is one with a serious medical problem that can't be placed, it is best that you take part of the responsibility here and assisting to find a solution. You would likely need to have the female come to your house, for days perhaps, which is a big responsibility. You'll have to be convinced that the female's owner is doing everything right (setting aside money for a c-section, breeding to standard, etc.) before allowing a breeding. Your boys lines should be clear of genetic defects including things like liver shunt. He will need to be tested prior to breeding. Some things would include bile acids test, blood panel, knees checked/OFA'ed preferably, hips checked, eyes checked (CERF), cleared of STDs, especially in between breedings, etc., etc., etc. It's good to see an owner asking what needs to be done before attempting to breed instead of just going ahead and putting two dogs together and hoping for the best.

| Making Mykee a stud requires no work from you. Making sure that Mykee is stud quality is what requires work.....Elle May touched on just a few things....but, the list is long.... Also, keep in mind most breeders have their own studs, and unless the dog is a well known Champion from a great pedigree and known to be throwing exceptional pups....they will not attempt to go outside their own kennel for stud service....

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | First join a breed club. Find a mentor. Champion your boy. Do all the tests necessary. These have been elaborated in an earlier thread. Be prepared for personality and behaviour change in your Yorkie. Be prepared that sometimes in breeding the :stud" gets injured. This is not often talked about here. But a stud can get bitten, mauled, or have his penis injured from the female.
