Car Sick :( Advice Needed This past weekend was the second time we brought Teddy in the car with us. On both occasions he has gotten car sick :( Has this happened to any of your little ones? What can we do to help him? |

Peanut had some bad anxiety in the car, I also got him a car seat and it helped sooo much!! He loves it and I think he feels safe. It has a little clip where you clip them in!! |
MY Jewels gets sick so I dont feed her for an hour before we leave |
Poor Teddy. Paisley is the same way. We had to medicate her yesterday before our trip. Cerenia works like magic but I doubt that you would use it for small trips. There have been some members talking about the Thunder Shirt and that might be a good alternative. I will try and post the link. Good luck. Car seats help alot. However, there are other things that help too. No feeding 3 hours prior to traveling..... 1/4 Bonine tablet (purchased at most pharmacies). Given 1/2 hour to 45 minutes prior to travel HomeoPet Travel Anxiety Drops...purchased through Amazon....or Pet Stores...not at PetSmart or PetCo. |
Jack used to get car sick when he was younger. I did get a boaster car sit and he loves it. I think he grew out of the car sickness before I got the car sit though. |
Car Sick Poor baby, poor you!! A car sick baby is no fun, 2 legged OR four, I did for Sprocket just like it did for my kids when they were small and had no problems, made sure he could see out the window (car seat/booster seat), and cool air in the face. Now cool air is some times a little harder to do esp in the summer but aside from a little doggie panting or complaining, no problems. It might also just be getting a little older and used to being in the car. Sprocket loves to go ANYWHERE, even the vet, in the car . Good luck. |
Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions! My biggest concern is that we live in New York City so we don't use a car very often (in the summer we use it much more so that will help him get used to it). Are there any car seats you would recommend? |

If it's motion sickness and not an anxiety thing, try Cocculus. It's homeopathic (they're these tiny round pellet type pills) and it works perfectly for my beagle. She was terrible too, drool like crazy etc. ugh mess every time we drove with her for more than 10 mintues ever since she was a puppy. The vet I worked for did alot of holistic medicine so that's where I got it, but I just googled it quick and you can find it online. Never used it with my Yorkie because I don't have the problem with her, but it worked like a charm for Darla, even if she had eaten recently. |
He doesn't show signs of anxiety that I know of. Does anyone know what these signs are? It might just be motion sickness. He got sick within the first 15 minutes of the trip. |
my layla used to get sick in the car the first few times we took her out but she eventually grew out of it. last summer we went on an 18 hour road trip and we had no sickness at all! :) |
Some of the signs of anxiety in dogs are panting, whining, or restlessness. One of my Yorkies used to get car sick a lot but the older he got the better it was. I also highly recommend the Snoozer car seat. I got the larger one that is kind of like a sofa that sits up high so they can see out the window. It's large enough for both of my Yorkies to fit in and they can even lay down. It's expensive but worth it in my opinion. You can probably find them cheaper on Amazon. |
