I'm Scared. Surgery Help Please I haven't posted about this and wasn't going to until it's over, but Stewie is having major surgery tomorrow. I am thinking about not going through with it at this time. I can't handle the thought of him being scared and away from me for one second or being afraid. A surgeon with whom I am not familiar (not my normal vet) will be doing the surgery. It's scheduled for tomorrow @ 7:45AM CST. I have to check him in @ 645. He may not be able to come home tomorrow night. I don't really want to get into the specifics right now as it is difficult for me to understand the whole procedure, but it has to do w/ his penis & being very prone to infections. Doc was clear that if something goes wrong (which he said he wasn't anticipating) Stewie may have to have one of those bags for urine on the outside of his body and not have use of his penis altogther. I am also afraid becausee they are not going to use Isofluerine (sp?) anesthetic because they want to use one that will be stronger and keep him under longer. What if he doesn't wake up? :'( I am worried sick - I can't even put it into words how afraid I am that I might lose my baby - the one true love of my life. |
I'm sorry you are having to go through that. I know how scary it is. I couldn't sleep all night the day before Desi was spayed. I'm sure tomorrow will come and go and Stewie will be ok and back home before you know it and this whole operation will be behind you. Just get through tomorrow morning.. I wish you luck and I'll be thinking about you. Kisses for Stewie. BTW, doctors always have to give you worst case senario even if the odds are one in a million. |
Im sorry you are so scared. I would be too. But I will keep him in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
I am so sorry you and Stewie are going through this. I know surgery is scary, more so with risk. I am sending prayers your way... |
Kristy, you are feeling more than normal under this situation! It is so scary to leave our monkeys with strangers and know that their lives are in their hands. Stewie is tough (after all he is related to Simon) and he needs this surgery to make him feel better. Nothing I can say will make you feel better because you love him so much, you are too good of a mama and surgery is never easy to deal with! I have done this 3 times with Simon and it is never easy but Stewie will not be mad at you, he will be so happy to see you tomorrow when it is all over! Simon and Hallie and I will be thinking of you and Stewie all day tomorrow! We are sending big hugs and kisses rigth now! |
I know you must be scared! I would be too. The only advice I can give is this. YOu didnt say it was elective surgery. If your vet thinks it is necessary and you trust your vet, I would just say extra prayers...and we will all say them with you....and get through tomorrow! Keep us updated!!! |
Oh Kristy I am so sorry to hear this but I bet Stewie pulls through it just fine. Just keep your spirits up and know we are all pulling for you and Stewie. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Update us on how he is doing when you can. |
Kristy - You & Stewie will make it thru this surgery - I know you will - he's a strong boy ...I would be so scared too but think postitive thoughts - try not to think of the bad things and you can get thru the time better - plan how your going to spoil him sillier than he already is ...and just pray for your baby ....we will too... |
Oh Kristy, I am praying for you and Stewie, no matter what you decide to do. My thought's are with you. Please be stong. |
Kristy, I think Miko may have a similar problem to what Stewie has...I'll PM you right now with the details about what was done for him, so check your messages, please. |
I know you must be very scared and you have every right to be but you have your friends at yorkietalk to lean on.Im sure I speak for everyone when I say you and stewie will be in our thoughts and prayers. |
Im so sorry that You and Stewie has to go thru this. He is a strong little guy and he will come out great from surgery. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. We are here for you. Please keep us updated when you can. |
Wow, Why didn't you tell us, you poor baby... You must be worried to death. I have never heard of this. Did you get a second opinion?? Does he get these infections a lot?? If you haven't gotten a second opinion, why don't you put it off until you can.. Different doctors see things and answers in different ways.. Keep us informed of whats going on. In the meantime I will keep you and Stewie in my thoughts and prayers. |
One more thought, Is it called Chronic Penis Infection?? I was reading this online and wondered if it might help you? Have you tried Transfer factor? It is a realitively new product on the market for animals. It helps boost and correct the immune system. I am an RN an Stanford hospital, and have taken this myself for allegies. I have my cat on it for Asthma. It keeps her infection free, and off steriods. She is 16, and is still keeping our puppy in line. It maybe an autoimmune process going on, and the immune system is not healty to fight it. Anitbiotics do not always help, sometimes the bacteria, virus, mutate. As the medical field is finding out with antibiotic resistant diseases. My website is http://www.my4life.com/tammycregut. You can order the canine formula there. Also check the home website www.4life.com. Look under the products for animals. See what other people have experienced with their animals. Good Luck. |
Kristy, I'm sorry Stewie has to go through that. Isoflorane is one of the safer anesthetics. My vet said they can control how deep they can take them with it, too. I think you are down to deciding if he has a chance of living a normal healthy life or perhaps living with a handicap. It's a tough decision, but one only you can make. I really think it isn't the anesthesia you need to worry about here. My thoughts are with you and lil Stewie. |
You and Stewie are in our prayers! I'm sure Stewie will come out of this fine :) Surgeries are always scary to think about. Trust me, I was an absolute wreck when I found out Miko needed surgery, but he got through it and is better than ever. |
Any news? :) |

Kristy, I just wanted to post again since I feel so close to you and Stewie! I KNOW that you got lots of opinions and this is not a decision that was easy or that you took lightly. Stewie needs this to have a better life, and he will be just fine TOMORROW when you pick him up! Kristy ~ How many virtual hugs and well wishes can I fit into this post? Hopefully a million because that is how many I want you and Stewie to feel right now. I know how hard this is on you right now and I know how much you want whats best for Stewie. His health is sooo important and I hope you can be rest assured as you hand over your trust to Stewie's vet. After you receive our million hugs, know that there are a million more behind them. Our thoughts, hugs, and kisses are with you both. Schatzie and Sheryl :aimeeyork |
