Lap Dogs 1 Attachment(s) I love, love, love having little lap dogs which my two are. Are all Yorkies lap dogs? And if yours are, how do you displace them when you have to get up to do something? I always feel so mean when I have to remove them when I get up. They are just what I wanted in furry babies and they are so sweet but I do have obligations and tasks that require me to scoot them away. I'd like to hear how you deal with this situation and how do your furbabies react? Attachment 341053 Mommy to Abigail and Gidget:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Lol, nope, I would not call Jackson a lap dog. He is entirely too busy to be sitting on someones lap. However, he's a big cuddler at night and in the mornings and he usually sleeps right in between legs at the bottom of them, with his head resting on my leg. I always feel too bad to move so I wake up with a stiff back from not moving all night and he wakes up like a perfect little angel... hahaha! Well, and he follows me everywhere... during the day he prefers to lay in his dog bed next to my feet or on my bed, but if I leave the room, he follows me. So sometimes I won't get up right away if I want him to keep sleeping, LoL |

Roxy and I have this routine too. I work from home at a desk and move around way too much for her to be in my lap so she prefers to be by my feet in her little bed. She won't even get on my bed which is just right behind us. Rox follows me everywhere too but has learned when I am just going to the bathroom and doesn't always follow (If I don't look at her, she is less likely to follow) unless I get out of her line of sight, then she is compelled to come find me. The only time she ever sits in my lap is when we're on the couch watching TV, she loves to watch TV! I do feel bad when I have to get up to get something but I'll usually just carry her with me to where ever I'm going and set her right back down on my lap when we get back to the couch, she will adjust herself to the comfy spot and it's like I never even got up. :) |
Callie loves to be held and in peoples laps and cuddled. My moms Sammy will let you hold him for like a minute or two then he wants down but he will sit next to you curled up by your side. |
Bevo is very much a lap dog!! Even if im at the computer he whimpers to be picked up and sits in between me and the back of the chair! I love my little cuddler!! Usually, If I get up, I just scoop him up with me. Of course, I work 8-5, so when I get home he is ready to see me!! (I do visit him everyday at lunch though!):) |
Teddy likes to be held for a minute or two throughout the day, but he doesn't lap sit. Max has to be in his doggy donut bed and then he will let me hold him on my lap at night. They both prefer to rest at my feet or run around. :p |
In the book "The Complete Yorkshire Terrier," a longtime breeder/exhibitor describes Yorkies as willing to sit on your lap....until they see something interesting and then they are off like a shot. :D |
Cute stories! I guess because I have two in my lap many times at the same time, it really gets crowded. I, too, work from home on the computer. I'm a Realtor so I do spend a lot of time on the computer. If they are not in my lap or sitting beside me, Abby is bringing a toy for me to throw for her. Sometimes it gets difficult to do my work. :) |
Calvin is definitely more my "lap dog". He loves to be in my lap all snuggled up. Now the only time Bella wants to be in my lap is when Calvin is in my lap and then she does everything she can to be top dog :D...lol...when they sleep in our bed...Bella is on top of the covers curled up next to me and Calvin is under the covers curled between my legs...Oh and when I bring them to work with me, Bella lets me know when she wants to take her nap so I have to pick her up and put her on my desk so that she can nap on my desk while I work. Thank goodness my boss loves them just as much as I do! |
Chloe hasn't been a "lap" girl since she was about 4 mos but she wants to be close and follows me around and of course she sleeps pushing up against me, she does come to me a few times during the day for "loving" but Willow thinks I am part of her body. She is always in my lap and even when I am standing, if I stop she cries for me to pick her up. Of all the dogs I have had, and that's been quite a few, she is by far the clingiest but I love it. I too, find myself staying in one place in bed (oh my aching back) so as not to disturb them. It's like when my boys were babies, I hate to disturb them. I lay them in their beds hoping they can go right back to sleep but mostly they just get up and follow me. They are devoted. |
Well, all this just proves...Yorkies are THE best! Love 'em! I just wish I had discovered them earlier in life. I am in my sixties and got our first Yorkie, Abigail, in 2008 and our 2nd one this year! ;) |
Darwin, Mabel and Sidney, our Bengal cat are my main excuse for not doing housework!!! As soon as I sit down, it's like I have a fur coat - I always feel so mean when I have to get up so I sit there longer then I intended to. It's such a great excuse!:D |
Neither of my two are lap puppies. They will lay very very close beside you but not on you. They don't like cuddles much either. Bijou has become a little more huggable this week as she's stayed by my side while I've been sick. Hopefully she'll get more cuddley as she gets older or maybe when my next girl get here they will both be more cuddley. |

Sophie is 100% lap dog. She has to be with me wherever I am. Anytime I'm sitting, she is in my lap....couch, computer, etc. If I'm cooking or doing anything standing, she will stand up on my leg and scratch until I pick her up. Can you say spoiled? lol |
Of the 3 I have now, my Willow which we adopted in November is such a lap dog. She is a very needy, needs to cling girl. I think it may have to do with her life before we adopted her. Now Alexis(Alex) who we just adopted she is so busy always running around, the only time she wants to be next me is in the bed. Lizzie is very much an independent one, she is always sleeping, but then she is 14. |
Teddie isn't much of a cuddler, he's a rock and roller. He will let us know if he wants to be held by jumping up on our legs and whining when we are on the couch. He will let us know when he is done being cuddled too by emitting a small whine. He follows me around though, and when I am doing dishes he lays at my feet and puts his head on my left foot. It's kinda hard doing dishes that way without disturbing his royal cuteness. He's a busy boy though, but loves to get and give kisses. :p |

He'll sit on my lap until either the toy in his mouth falls to the floor, or if anything moves anywhere. |

Princess loves to cuddle & be lovey dovey, but she is an "independent sleeper", lol. she'll lay on the couch besides us but rarely sleeps on my lap. like others, if she's close enough to lay down she is close enough to play & this pup will play til she crashes...in her bed by the front door! no matter where's she's at i still love her the same!:2hearts2: |
In some dictionary somewhere next to the definition of a "lap dog" there is a picture of Elvis! |
My 2 are lap dogs. My shih tzu even jumps onto the computor chair all the time because she knows that is where I sit .... It is funny because she leans forward , as if she is ready to type. At night both dogs are on the couch with me. Or in bed. They like to be as close to me as they can. I am usually home all the time , so they like that . If they are not plaing together, or chewing on bones , their never too far away. ;) |

Wonderful picture!!!! Abilgail and Gidget are darlings. Tibbe is a lap dog when he is not busy running the world. At night, he insists on sharing my actual pillow with me and gets his little 5 lb. body right up on my pillow right beside my head. Other times, when I am watching TV or reading lying down, he will bark at me until I tell him it okay to come share my pillow! He is the only dog I have had who will curl up with the side of his face against the side of my face - cheek-to-cheek, an action he always initiates when he is feeling especially cuddly. He will sleep like that until I need to move. When I do sit up, he does want to be in my lap most of the time he is not otherwise engaged. He only sleeps in his fuzzy bed when he is ignoring me for something I did he did not like - such as putting his toys away before he is ready or if he doesn't get something he really wants like a training session. Funny little guy. |
Nope- mine aren't really lap dogs- they like to be close by, but not right on me- I have their fufu kuddler at one end of the couch and they like to go lay on that, or sometimes on one of the many beds on the floor. At night in bed, they do cuddle a lot but that is it really. |

First of all, your babies are adorable. Secondly, Kelsey will not come to me and sit in my lap, but once I go and pick her up and put her in my lap she will stay there for a long time being petted and loved. As for when I have to get up I just pick her up and place her on the floor or in her bed. Neither of us has a problem with it. We enjoy the time we spend together! :yorkiesar |
