I think you were right to wonder about the guy, though he was probably just trying to make conversation about a common theme: Yorkies -- but I find myself wondering about people's intentions sometimes.
I know nearly everyone thinks it's important to go to the breeder's house to buy a puppy, but every time I read something like this I can't help but think how easy it would be to set up a breeder and steal their dogs, thus I always caution those that sell puppies to use caution when showing their pups. I think I'm too paranoid about all this, but I could see where someone could ask to see a puppy, come into someone's home, sit and make all nice conversation, find out that maybe they work during the day/what their routine is/whatever...and then tell the breeder they'll think about the puppy and then break in and steal the puppies and their parents. Just seems people are so rotten --- even desperate due to the sad state of the economy --- these days anything is possible. Makes one want to check their ID's before letting them in.

That would be stressful, I don't know if I would be able to be a breeder, knowing that someone would try to come back and steal the puppies and it's not like it doesn't happen.

:(My worst fear would not only be if I would get my baby back but how would he be treated by someone like that? I mean if your such a lowlife that you would steal someone's dog then how would they react if the dog did something really doggy like bark or cry cause they are scared of the guy? One thing that makes me a tad nervous is how easy these little guys are to injure. I would be paranoid someone would kick him or worse.

People do steal Yorkies all the time and you need to be cautious with them- but I doubt this guy planned to steal your dog right from you with other people around- he was probably just a little strange and trying to make conversation.

That's true, I never really thought of how they would be treated. Im sure most of them just want to try to make a fast buck, Im sure they aren't trying to keep them, but you never know. I agree with you, Im sure they wouldn't be treated well at all, esp if they stole them.

I hear of stories of people stealing dogs with other people around. This guy maybe saw who was around me and thought he could out run us, It was me, one older woman and an older man, This guy was younger, I am pretty sure he would be able to out run any of us. I am not saying that was his plan, but you never know.

Yes thats what I think too just because someones strange doesnt mean they are going to steal from you

This is why I am very leary to take my babies out with me. I am paranoid. I won't even let my daughter take them around the block for a walk. It's like I try to hide them so no one knows they live here. I let them run all they want in my backyard..under supervision.. but I'm afraid. I don't want anyone to steal them. I tell people they bite and are on medication because they are sick. Meanwhile they are jumping all around licking my daughters friends when they come over :rolleyes:

When I first got Sakura I thought about telling the people ya get that "creepy" vibe from she was a mix. In my opinion my town is full of those kind of people. I'm so happy I get to bring her to work with me because I'm deathly afraid someone will rob the house and take her. I get to work first usually and I will not take her out to potty with no one else in the shop. She is just so friendly with everyone.

I think you were very smart to trust your instincts and not give him any information....the "health issues" line was good! Even if his intentions were good, you just never know so better safe than sorry. I tell my kids this all the time...trust your "inner voice" it usually knows what it is saying. I would hold off on bringing pnut there for a while until that nagging feeling went away.

:D You know what, The more I think the more I think he was trying to do something, even the owner Bob said that he had cruel intentions. This guy was saying he had a yorkie, when he came up to me he didn't even know Pnut was a yorkie... Don't you think if he really had one he would have known what breed Pnut is? He was very shady, it didn't add up to me.
