After reading this thread I thought of something. Depending which direction your balcony faces, you might think about getting some "smoked" or tinted plexy. It might be helpful if there is a direct sun exposure and temperature is a factor to your babies comfort. |
I read somewhere that using acrylic sheets was a very good and secure way to secure a deck/patio/balcony. I have just moved into an apartment and was considering chicken or rabbit wire, now I think I will go with the acrylic sheets, safe and clear! |

I like using chicken wire. It is invisable to the HOA and the neighbors, so no one complains about it. The air can still cirrculate freely thru the chicken wire and the balcony or patio does not get smothering hot! Best of all, there are no issues with paw prints to have to clean off....seems to me that plexiglass is just ONE more thing to clean prints off!!! |
For my Mothers balcony I used clear mesh and used zip ties to hook it to the balcony railing. It is clear so you don't really see it but Cali likes that the wind (and scents) blow through it. |
how about cardboard, they have those big fat looking collars you can put on them, they would not fit through the opening |
I don't know if this has been said Karen... all dog boots.... sell the cutes puppy bumpers. Lisa..sugarmamma.. raves about them. It puppy proofs fences |
Plexiglass sounds like a great idea, very sturdy and safe. We used the dark brown/black deer fencing inside our iron fenced area in our yard and it has worked out well. We tied it on with matching zip ties and it doesn't look bad at all. They like it because they can still feel the breeze coming through the tiny holes. |
2 Attachment(s) I love the plexiglass idea and dh and I plan to use that if we ever move. Huey has proven to us he will not fall off our deck, despite many heart stopping moments as we figured this out, and is now allowed on the deck unaccompanied,. He always has to hang out of the rail for his yard and neighborhood inspection...all 3 sides of the deck in turn. |

Did this for my Moms condo. Plastic lattice at Lowes comes with tiny or medium holes. Plastic zip ties secure it beautifully. You can cut it with kitchen shears to fit. |
