And this means what? You've been a breeder for what, maybe 2 minutes....

The misinformation you are posting could very well lead to someone losing their pup to distemper/parvo....or a rabis vaccine. If you are willing to take on that responsibility for your own pups, so be it.

But keep in mind there are vets out there that have not updated their vaccination protocal since they've left vet school, aren't involved extensively with keeping up to date with what is being studied and out there being researched. Six weeks for initial vaccination is not what is recommended by Vet Colleges, or the Board of Vets.

I hope your vet is up on the LS BAT Protocol? It has changed.....and if done incorrectly can lead to false positives or false negatives...both serious business and life threatening to a Yorkie. I also hope that your vet knows how to perform surgery on a yorkie with LP or Leggs Perthes or HP. All three can show up in a yorkie at any given time.

Giving shots at 6-7 weeks was a big one for me too! You are making such a good point! Dawn 27 admits she is "a bit lacking in the knowledge department" and also says that she is "a good breeder because I thrive to learn" -- which would be good if she remained in the sponge mode, soaking up information instead of arguing with more experienced, better-educated breeders about practices which are outlined well on the YTCA.ORG site. It does not take much research to find where the YTCA recommends no yorkie pups be taken from the dam until after 12 weeks. If a person is truly interested in coming here to improve their knowlege base and knows it is seriously lacking, then WHY would they give out advice?

When I give advice, I do so with a valid reference in mind. I know I have only experienced two litters of Yorkie pups and do not want to give out information that might have worked for these 2 experiences but are not the normal recommended protocols. So, I read, and read some more, always knowing I am giving out the best information I can. If I am giving an opinion, I try to be careful to say so. I don't mean to say this breeder cannot give out her experiences, but when it comes to matters of breeding practices -- she should make sure "her opinion" is also what is recommended by the Breed Parent Club and/or better educated breeders. If not, then she should preface the post with -- "my opinion (and I am still learning) is ....." or something like that so newbies doing research do not take it as factual, recommended information. I like even my doctors to say "I don't know but I'll find out" rather than just spout information off the top of their head which may or may not be right. None of us know it all -- but together we can get pretty close IF we stick to valid information that can be backed up by reference.

I'm not sure but, checking on Dawn's Profile she's a young mother whose occupation is an in-home child care providor.....Breeding done correctly takes up a lot of time, no outside interferance, especially young children......Young children require 100% of one's attention, so do you dam's that are whelping and raising newborn pups.

I'm really confused by your response. Not the gibberish above, but the red verbiage within my post. You included the link to the website, but also state your vet does not vaccinate on the same schedule. Previously, you posted that the vaccination schedule backs up the info you posted. So I don't understand your point. Does your vet vaccinate your pups at 6-7 weeks as the schedule indicates?

As you stated in one of your posts this is an open forum where opinions can be expressed, discussed, debated etc. I would like to hear your point of view but I don't understand what you are trying to say.

I'm going to defend dawn here for a second. I think what happened is that she quoted a previous poster and put her comments inside the quote (in red). The system here will not let you submit just a quote. It requires you to put something else in outside of the quotes to get it to post.

Do you know about my med school background as well-which fields I studied in-all of my work experience, schooling?

I wasn't raggin' on your vet...but I can :rolleyes: Especially if what they are doing is based on "older schooling" which is no longer taught or recommended based on more recent research and information

What's "un-cool" to me is spreading misinformation as truth...
YOUR LINK: does NOT coincide with what you are saying (at all) either: it says "could" and 25% (at most)-if you further verify the sources of your link they are averaging based on a small study of larger breed pups...ye a lot to learn for some people.

Again I don't want to seem picking on you, I wasn't please take some time to start reading and researching very thoroughly. Especially if you are breeding you need to be set up to educate others correctly (and yourself) while being set up for success...

I'd love to someday be a breeder/show: when I win the lottery, my kids are off or out of college, I have the time and energy to devote to such a task, and after about 20 years of research, including a lot of reading from reliable sources, and hands on learning from top qualified breeders with the breed I'd love to breed...so I'm learning now not doing and learning as I go...

That's what I figured, too.

I actually don't think that is necessary. I'm not even clear on what protocol her vet actually follows after the contradictory posts.

Thanks for all the kind comments and interest, of course the continued support that you all have posted here.

I talk to her at length yesterday on the phone, he is doing very well. From what she says he is eating kibble like a champ and his momma is no longer nursing them. He and his siblings are busy playing up a storm. So at this point just waiting to see what happens. He will be rechecked by the vet to make sure he is still progressing well at the end of the week.

I am just hanging back and waiting UGH lol
