Disgusted! So first let me admit I was very uninformed about "teacup" dogs before I found YT. But now that I know how people get them so small and such it makes me sick. Well today Brandon and I were talking about adding another member to the family later on this year so Silver could have a sibling. I suggested to him that I would like a parti yorkie so since he didn't know what they looked like I was searching yahoo for a picture for him. Then I stumbled across a site that made me mad....Karen's Teacups - WHAT IS A TEACUP? I shouldn't have to explain why I'm mad after you all read her definition. Also let me add I would never buy a dog that is purposefully bred to be able to fit into a dolls purse! |

She's actually having a sale! Don't know what some people are thinking. Shadow is almost 8 lbs and I worry about her falling/jumping and getting hurt. I can't imagine a "micro mini". |
Oh wow, so she's actually breeding "teacups" and brags about it. It's so sad that people can only see size as the main thing they want in a dog. Breeding dogs under 5 pounds it so dangerous for the dog, and even a small dog is not an accessory that wants to live in a purse or in your lap for hours. Here's waht the YTCA says about teacups. By that breeder's definition Kaji or even a 10 lb dog is a teacup. :p I can hold Kaji with one hand for hours, if I have to, he fits in a "special" purse (size small) and he wears xs clothing. Hahahaha! Well what do you know, I have a 7 lb teacup! Or is he a coffee mug? Those are bigger but still portable right? ;) |
lol I wonder if she would call my 11.4 yorkie boy..JUMBO.. |
I have seen a few very , very small yorkie's. I always worry that their going to get stepped on , they are so tiny. I understand that these tiny yorkie's can come with serious health problems too. That would greatly shortend their lifespan. my 7 Lb yorkie looks small , but not compared to these tinies. I am very content having a average sized yorkie, rather then a super tiny one, that only will grow a pound or 2. No reputable breeder would ever be selling the so called "tea cup" |

I also don't agree with this woman's growth chart. Harley was 4oz at birth, he is 4lbs not 2.5lbs she must be forecasting for some pretty starved animals. Either that or my "teacup" is an anomaly - oh wait, no he's a normal yorkie. :D (in sarcastic tone) at least she keeps her dogs for more than 12 weeks ;) |

Just disgusting. How can you breed a trusting llittle Yorkie girl that small with all of the known health dangers for her and her tiny puppies - plus knowing the potential problems for anesthesia, medication, etc., should she or any of her tiny litter ever have to have surgery? Yorkies are extremely delicate at their standard size let alone anything under 4 lbs. I wonder how small is going to be too small with breeders like this? A dog that small can't even safely jump down off of the couch - and they all do it. Tibbe has carpeted steps to use to get on and off the couch and still when he gets excited he has bounded off the couch and scared me spitless and he's 5.3 lbs., muscled and hardy. I consistently remind him to use his "steppies" but when he is excited and I am not sitting right by him so I can stop him, he may forego the steps. Some of those little "teacups" are 2 1/2 lbs. When that little thing bounds off the couch, there are broken bones, dislocated joints and pain! But the people that purposely breed dogs like that just do not care, obviously, about what their actual lives are like. It is a shame that operations like this can't be banned from the face of the earth. |

Wow... you know before I cam here I too was uninformed about teacups and how they came to be so small but this lady is actually bragging about how she does it. and yes I have read some terrible things about the health issues these tiny ones have, I know my Charlie has his own health issues and he is 13 pounds. It is very sad that these small ones are being brought into the world like this Im feeling grumpy tonite maybe I will send that lady and email letting her know how I feel  |
It is shameful how little I knew B4 joining YT and shameful how much I have yet to learn. |
And on her "history" page: Teacups require more genetic research, require specialized knowledge for administering immunizations and medication, and require ‘GRAVELY’ different demands for whelping and breeding. Where I simply used to ‘place’ a sire and dam together, I now employ the art of “hand-breeding” (yes, you heard me right) Ugh!!!! And: SO, as you will see throughout the website, I offer Yorkies, and Yorkie-Poms, and my goal is breed the ‘teacup’ size. What is a teacup? (click on that tab on the menu for more details.) While I am not particularly a big proponent of the ‘mixed’ breeds, I have found ‘my’ favorite dog to be a teacup “Yorkie-Pom”. That, to me, is the ultimate dog. It has the best of both worlds. For more details on the Yorkie-Poms, click on that tab. |
Well that's a visual we didn't need, huh! I did not see that on her site. Disgusting! |

Karen's Teacups - HISTORY |
Oooooooooooooohhhhh. Just read it. I swear, it gets worse and worse. |
Accoding to her Web site she lives in Helotes, Tx near La Cantera, that's about five minutes away from me. I'm about two exits down from her. I'm curious what her place looks like. |
ok here is what I sent in my email to her I just couldnt stand it I have to ask, why do you breed such tiny babies knowing that their health can suffer so. I have a regular sized yorkie and I did my research, Yorkies in general have a specific groups of health issues as you state on your site that an owner shoud know about and I am certain that had any of your babies had any one of these issues they would not make it. Is it for the money?? because i know that people who raise regular sized yorkies make money. If you really love these animals you would not put then in harms way as you are doing. I would also like to know how it is that you know these babies are going to a good home if you are flying them anywhere in the united states you cant possibly know the living conditions of people in other states or wherever you send them and I hate to tell you this but just because someone can send you $1800 does not guarantee a good home. It's a shame that money is more important to you than the babies are. I doubt I hear from her but if I do Im sure she will be all huffy about it. |
no contract??? |
From her About Us page: 100% of our puppies are registered through nationally recognized registries. 95% of our Yorkies are registered through AKC (American Kennel Club), and a ‘very’ few are registered through CKC (Continental Kennel Club), and the hybrids (Yorkie-Poms), are registered through ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club), which is a hybrid registry out of another nationally recognized registry known as APRI (America’s Pet Registry, Incorporated). then goes on:- I strongly encourage anyone shopping for a puppy, to require registration papers from a well known and respected registry. Since when has the CKC been a well known and respected registry or the APRI??? Those are the ones usually used by puppy mills or backyard breeders whose puppies usually aren't eligible for AKC registration. |

this woman is a quack!! but i will say it's pretty scary, to an unknowing, potential buyer her site looks very convincing! i thank God i knew a "teacup" was a bad thing to look for and just so happened to pick the biggest pup of the litter...she weighs in at a whopping 6.9 pounds and is tiny! we met a 2.5 lbs. yorkie once and there's no way i feel like I could even be responsible enough for something so tiny. as far as a contract she does have a health guarantee but nothing more...and she swears up and down that she has NEVER had one genetic problem except for the often misdiagnosed heart murmors & lp, which are OK for a "teacup" to have??? she refuses to do liver shunt testing...something that is performed on dogs twice the size because it DOES run in their BREED....small or not, they are still yorkies, which can have a predisposition to these problems...and i've always been under the impression that an open fontanel was a defect?? but she makes it sound ok? it is sick, and look at all the dams and sires she has, and what can possibly be healthy about a 2 pound BABY having her own babies? this just gets me irate! sometimes i think i would be better off not knowing about these idiots out there that are responsible for a helpless animals life, and further more the people that add fuel to their fires by not doing any homework. err!!:mad::mad: |
Wow Beamers Mom, I didn't read the history stuff either just the "teacup" part and the history is pretty disturbing also. Wow she even let's other people use her male(s) for stud services! And to think she would be the type of person I would buy from before I found YT! I want to thank all of you for your wonderful knowledge and leading me in the right direction! |

And she even encourages you to bring your brand new tiny teacup puppy who fits in a doll purse home with you and have it sleep in your bed the first night... wonder how many broken legs her pups suffer. |
