My Lucy is pregnant! Hi and I pray all is well, my Lucy went to the groomer and to my surprise she is now pregnant! I have never experienced this and am verry worried! adds a whole new meaning to full service salon:rolleyes: |
Well, are you saying that she got pregnant while getting groomed? I have a 'Lucy' too. How old is your Lucy? |
Im sorry that is terrible. You can have her spayed and end the pregnancy. Best of luck whatever you decide |
That is awful! Your poor little girl must not have even been watched - just put in with other dogs and left. Is that what you are saying? How old is your little girl? |

Are you saying she got pregnant while at the groomer's or the groomer is the one that figured out she is pregnant? By the way you phrased it, sounds like you are saying she was impregnated at the groomer. Given the fact that it is not immediately obvious when a dog is pregnant, how can you be sure it happened while she was in their care? |
Oh lordy. Didn't you know your dog was in heat? Did she get pregnant while at the groomers? You better find out about this and how big the male was. Your baby's life could depend on this. I'd take her and have her spayed right away if she were mine. |
Well, i dont want to do more harm and personally i am against abortion, but I am worriede about her, she is 5 pounds now and only 2and a half, the groomer assured me that it would be fine that no other dog would be near her, and now this, and all they can tell me is it may be a yorkie, maltese, schitu or pomeranian! |
Wow. Being pro-life doesn't mean you can't get your dog an emergency spay. It's a different issue. |
im sure it happened at the groomers as my Lucy goes everywhere with me including to work and is never out of my site, they assured me that no way would she be exposed while being there that day and then 4 weeks later I realized that she was pregnant by another person thatcme in my office to get taxes done and a breeder told me she was pregnant |

Well, I'm just plumb curious, but I see you joined in September 2009 and just now waiting to do your first post...What'sup w/that lol... |
I would be more worried about my girl and whether or not that groomer is possibly not telling the truth about what sized male impregnanted her. She may have no idea what male is daddy. Human life is sacred but in your little girl's case, a pregnancy might kill her which gives you the moral authority to act in her best interest as her steward. Please do not take that person's word who first of all put your dog at risk and may now just be trying to mitigate her liability. |
OMG, what a tramatizing experience for your poor little girl. She goes to get groomed and is attacked by one and possibly more males. Did that groomer not respond to her screams, this is so horrible! I'm in tears thinking what this poor baby must have went through. Are you experienced with whelping at all? I know nothing about it, but reading on here..it can be very dangerous, life threatening to your girl and pups if you don't know what you are doing when there are signs of trouble and quick intervention is needed. Please read some of the breeding threads and before you discard the spay. |

Even dedicated, experienced breeders aren't always positive of a pregnancy until the end of the term (about 63 days) so how at 4 weeks can you be sure? Has she been seen by a vet? |
Wow. I looked and I noticed you have not said you were going to take her to the vet, for a check up? What are your plans? |

How unusual that there just happened to be four small breed intact males at the groomer's at the same time as your dog in heat. |

Has this groomer said she will help sell your pups; I know some groomers sell dogs as well. I wouldn't trust her at all, something is shady about the whole story, and you might have grounds for a lawsuit. Please take your dog to a vet, her life is in your hands, and don't forget she can get sexually transmitted diseases, which can be very serious to her and the pups. |
I had 2 experiences with breeding my own dogs way back in the day and the very idea now terrifies me as I have turned 150% wimpywus. What will happen to little Lucy should say a Cocker Spaniel-sized dog be the sire? Could she safely carry a puppy or puppies that size? I am sure x-rays would tell the vet well ahead that a C-section would be necessary but what do they do if the puppies are really too big for her to even to carry? |
There is no way in hell that groomer did NOT know what dog (if any) tied with her because she would be in pain and yelling and the tie would last at least five minutes. Why on earth was your dog allowed to run freely around with several intacked males. Something smells fishy. Are you really telling the WHOLE story. If so, I'd sue!!!! You my dear are not thinking of your little girl or you would have been at the Vet. already and spaying a female dog is NOT a "human" abortion. It's an "animal" that needs your support. Sounds to me like you don't care if she is pregnant or not. How cruel for your baby. |

Well, I'm not really sure she would have been screaming. Maltese and Poms are toy dogs as well and s**tzu's aren't always all that big either but still all of them could have been larger or smaller, I guess, than standard but I am surprised that no one noticed. Dog's typically stay tied for awhile, it's not just a quick thing usually. I also am surprised that they would have allowed her in when she was in heat. That must have caused quite a rukus with all those intact males! Yowza! Anyways, the important thing is to get her the care she is going to need. I'm sorry to say that this is going to be an expensive mistake and I would be expecting the groomer to pay for medical bills. Breeding is expensive to begin with but when you have a mixed breed and no idea who the father is? You could wind up needed a c-secion, not to scare you but that typically costs upwards of $1000 and I've heard of some paying over $2000. Plus the normal vet visits even if things go well cost somewhere around $500, then add whelping supplies on top of that.... probably another $500 for a first litter. I'm going to hope that things go well for you and remember there are a lot of knowledgeable people here but no one as important as a good vet! Good luck! |

Why do "newbies" start these threads and then disappear? This is like the 3rd time in a week. Told myself just last week to stay off these crazy pleas for help and information!! Kinda makes you wonder if somebody (or somebodies) are just messing with YT. Hope fotownlori proves me wrong, but at this point . . . |

I'm all for courtesy and kindness, but this is a really weird story. Not that it can't possibly be true, but still. Weird. I hope the OP can come back and provide an update on the vet visit, etc. |
Didn't you know your dog was in heat? usually a groomer will not take a dog which is in heat. If you didn't know (because I know not all dogs have visable bleeding) your groomer would have realised when the intact males were pestering her. Either way I think you need to take your girl to a vet, breeding dogs is more complicated then you may think and I dont think it is worth risking your girls life for. |
TexasKat08 and TxVicki I agree 100%! Something about this just throws red flags all over. I hope for this little girls sake that I am RIGHT and it IS made up! If not, I strongly advise the OP to take her girl to the vet ASAP and have her spayed because at this point you can only assume her life depends on it. If you're "Pro-life" then think of your girls life and consider that hers is quite possibly in REAL danger! She is counting on you to make the right choice for her. Good luck! |
