It's easy to learn. Go buy yourself some Oster clippers with a 7" blade. |
Much cheaper to do it yourself and you don't have to wonder how your pup is being treated while you aren't there... Nail trimming is very easy. |
I dont know where in NY you live but I live on Long Island. My groomer charges $40 for wash, cut, nails and ears. |
Just be glad you don't have a real dog like a great dane. Talk about expensive! |
I've always groomed my dogs at home. With Tibbe it is easy as he has that "tousled" look so I just have to trim him and don't fret over mistakes as he grows out quickly. I've saved myself worry and money by doing my own grooming and I think it is a bonding time between me and my dogs. Tibbe loves all that time and attention devoted just to him! |
I think everyone is raising there prices.i bought a little grooming set and tryed to do some trimming along with some help. they will still need a full groom once our crazy weather warms up. the mobil club is now 45.00 per dog. last yr it was 40.00. gas prices are not helping much either. as long as my kiddos are groomed safetly i will be happy to pay and tip :) |
OMG!!! Where in NY are you? I'm out on LI, and with teeth brushing, nail trimming, bath and cut costs me $40 at a "dog spa". The dogs are not caged, but instead put in individual rooms with little couches and TVs. My dogs actually love going to the groomers, its like a play date for them. |
Grooming is a pain in the butt. Especially when you're someone like me who is like anal about Jackson being not scraggly-looking, lol. I love him all freshly groomed so the most I can go is about 12 weeks between professional groomings. It's $55 every time for him but she's a mobile groomer so she comes right to my house and he's done within 45 minutes-1 hour. I always give her a $10 tip though. It's actually a big reason I don't have a second Yorkie, the grooming costs would double and I simply couldn't afford it. It's possible to do with just Jackson right now... I am just not a grooming-type, I can barely do my own hair (thank God my mom owns a salon and I get it done for me a lot!! lol) so I'd prefer just to keep paying. Plus she does such a great job. |

Thats alot thats what I pay to have 2 groomed |
When I just had one I took her to the groomers every 4 weeks. I had a good groomer who only charged 20.00 but that was about 8 years ago. With 4 now I just groom them myself. They don't look professionally groomed but they look good enough. I also don't like them out of my hands anymore. I invested in good scissors, brushes, combs etc. which helps. |
I groom both Remy and my schnauzer, Winston. I bought a simple set from walmart and I knew nothing about grooming before! It's really not so bad! I started Remy very young with his nails. I lay him on his back, give him a treat, and shine a bright light on his nails so I can see where I am cutting. I start by cutting on a little off and I go from there. I am growing Remy's hair out so I Only trim his ears and private area. It's about $40-$60 for grooming in my area. It's not worth it in my opinion because it's so easy to do it at home if you have a calm dog. Good luck. |

I take my Willow every week for a bath and brush and brush out ( she has long hair) and Lizzie goes every other week for a bath she has really short hair. She get's trimmed every 4 weeks. For Willow I pay $18.40 every week, for the times on just Lizzie's bath only it's also $18.40 and on the every 4 weel trim it's $26.00. Plus I always give a 20% tip. I love, love my groomers. I have been going to them for about 8 years. When I was at home recovering from my Mastectomies my groomer came to me to give baths to my babies at that time. |
I go to Petsmart here and for Gypsy and our lh chi (hair like a yorkie, as per groomer and vet she looks like a chocolate yorkie) it costs 90.00. That is bath, nails and haircut. For our pom we only do a bath, blowout, nails and sanitary cut it is 25.00. I actually like the scruffy look with Gypsy so we go a good while between cuts. |
