No more collars! Since Minnie is on antibiotics for tracheal irritation I no longer use collars. I bought her a harness and took her on her first walk today since we have had her (4months) and she is 6 months old now. She did really good and did not sit and refuse to walk. I am such a proud YT Momma. Do you use a harness, collar or both? Also she has a rabies tag as she is UTD on vaccines, where am I supposed to put that at on the harness? |
Only harnesses in our home! I sometimes moon over those fancy, pretty collars but then I find some very pretty harness vests too. :) So much safer. |

I never use a collar on Zhoie, after reading and learning from our experienced YT friends all the issues they can cause. She have several harnesses for Zhoie and I put an I.D. tag on each of them. I attached to the metal clip of the harness just like you would on a collar. |
I always use a harness with Sammy. He used to wear a collar til the vet told me not to. He wears the harness all the time. There is a ring on it that I put his Rabies tag, ID tag and Dog License. I find that he doesn't pull me when he wears a harness like he did when he wore a collar. |
The metal thing is on where the leash goes, just don't know if I should put the tag for her there or not. I just don't want her to chew on the tag to where its not recognizable. Quote:

Waiting on my harness from chattiesmom, should be here soon. I will not use a collar anymore either on Bitsy, she has choked herself in the past with one:( |
I use a collar just to hold her name tag and rabies tag but I use a harness whenever the leash will be hooked to her. |

Only problem with cat collars I tried was the break away was too loose and I kept losing them. |

I've since bought some from this lady COLLARS GALORE items - Get great deals on Boys or Girls, Girls items on eBay Stores! and haven't had that problem. |
Sophie Kate is a harness and collar wearer. Harness ONLY when walking or riding in the car and a collar is on her 24/7 with her tags. Everyone knows never to walk her with a collar (she has a collapsed trachea) but I keep her leash attached to her harness just in case. Only time the collar is off is when she is being bathed or groomed. |

The only time I've ever used collars was for ID tags only, but have since stopped that as well. I only use step in harnesses. I put their bling and ID tags on claw clips so I can easily change them from one harness to another. |
When I took corky to the vet, she told me not to use collars, say it causes throat issues. Now I do keep one on him for his tags, But use an harness to walk him. |

Put the tag on the harness ring where you attach the leash. |
I have always used a harness. |

I get my breakaway collars from eBay. They are cotton and maybe even kitten collars. Is your Eddie around Kaji's size? The ones I get seem to fit Kaji well. Of course they are for ID purposes only, and I have a harness for his leash. |

Jackson wears a collar almost 24/7 with ID tags but is always walked on a harness. |
I only put their collars with their ID tags on them when we go to a large meetup otherwise we only use harnesses for everything else. |
Ruby wears a kitten collar with only a small bell on it, that way I can keep tabs on her. But she is never leashed by her collar -- there isn't a ring anyway. She wears her harnes for leash walks. |
Roxie wears a collar with her ID and rabies tags all the time. She sometimes has the tendency to run out the front door when I open it, so I always want to make sure she has her ID on. I also like the fact that the jingling lets me know her whereabouts in the house. When I walk her I use the step-in, no-choke harness. When I first got her I didn't know any better, and I walked her using her collar! She would make this terrible honking/gagging noise. Once I started reading up on here about trachea issues, I quickly switched to the harness and the honking/gagging stopped immediately. |
1 Attachment(s) I have my tags on the D ring of the harnesses-you may need to get a larger circle connector thingy (like my technical mumbo-jumbo) to attach the tag or tags to the harness D-ring (where you attach the leash)...here I'll take a pic and post one for ya...WOW I caused a serious comotion here getting out harnesses-all three jumped up awake and ran to me when they heard the harnesses and leashes come out the dog armoire! We use multiple types of harnesses here and this works on all types just like all types of collars... Quote:

We use both collars and harnesses. The collars are for the house and the harness we use to take them for a walk. |
