First bath? OK I really want to give Daisy a bath. Going to try using some baby soap on her first. Im thinking of trying to do it in the kitchen sink, its deep, and keeping her harness on her so she doesn't escape! I have some of the boys baby towels that have the hoods on them that we no longer use...can make them hers. How long do i need to keep her wrapped in a towel?? Hope she doen't freak on me!!! |
I just keep my in there long enough to get the excessive wetness then I blow dry them. When its chilly warm up a towel in the dryer for them. |

First baths are scary. Gizmo was ten weeks exactly when I brought him home and his first day here he rolled around in his poop. I tried wiping him down with baby shampoo on a wash rag, but eventually had to go ahead with a full bath. They tend to get chilled and shiver VERY easily. I take my blow dryer on warm and low as soon as I get him out of the bath. I don't let him out of the towel (I use my kids old baby ones too--they work great!) unless I am drying him and even then I keep it around the areas I am not drying. I don't ever let him down wet or damp. He gets really cold. Now he enjoys the blow dryer so much that he even makes me put it on him when I drying my own hair. Congrats on your new baby! |
I have to assume she has had a bath before since she is 6 years old. ? You are probably more nervous than her. the harness is a good idea as she will be slippery. be sure to use cream rinse or detangler. talk soothingly to her and give her bits of chicken or cheese. she likes that right? good luck and careful with water in her face. |

I would have the water on low, If you do use the blow dryer, have that on low too. Keep her warm!!! Daisy is still adjusting, so take things slow. Good Luck! Keep us posted. :) |
with Jewels I brush her hair after I have blow dryed it. Chachi has a cotton coat and a trick I have found to get the matts out is to brush it when the conditioner is on. I brush it again after I blow dry his hair. |
The bath tub would probably be safer, but only if you have a hand shower attachment there. That way she couldn't possibly fall. As far as the blow dryer goes, you can find out how she might handle it while she is dry by holding her and turning it on low warm and holding it near her and letting her check it out first. You'll know if she will freak or not before she's all wet. If she goes nuts over that, you'll know to use warm towels fresh from the dryer! Spoil her rotten! :p You could gradually get her used to the dryer probably over time. Most like it because it's warm. |
Ok bath done and she did great!!!!!!!! she stayed right in the sink..but glad I used her harness. Then we dried her off really well, and then he sat amazingly still for the blow dryer!! We then brushed her all pretty. Need to get a baby brush though..the dog one I had wa a little too rough I felt. My oldest son helped too and he thought it was great..and she did great with him! She looks so pretty now!!! Thanks for all the advice :) |
Good job! I'll bet she not only smells better, but feels a lot better, too! I want to know if she ran through the house like a maniac. That's what mine always do after a bath! :D |

They are! She follows me everywhere now!! Its cute :) Just can't wait to have her completely house trained, and more playful. She obviouslly didn't know "playing" with people, so we'll work on that. Plus I guess with her being older, she isn't as playful as a pup. |
