Working Yorkie Owners? Are there any yorkie mommies or daddies out there that work full time jobs? I'm a working owner and would like to chat with some people that also work while raising their puppy. Let me know! |
Well I probably can't be of much help b/c my Yorkie goes to work with me everyday! lol But when I first got him I was still in school and it could be difficult leaving him all day while I was in classes. I just made sure he got lots of love in the mornings before I left and lots of love in the evening once I got home. He adjusted well to the situation, although I must say he likes going to work with me a lot more than staying home! :) |
I am gone from my house for 12-13 hours a day my son gets home around 2-3 hours before me so my little babies are home alone all day and i hate it but i have to work to support them (all the toys and cloths ya know) oh BTW sebastain will be 3 in Aug. and Jasmine was 2 in Dec. |
I do! |
We work too! My husband and I both work full time jobs! :( Esme is alone from about 6:30am until about 3:30pm. My husband or sister checks on her atleast once a day during lunch time. It's tough, but I don't have a choice!!! |
I work full time and my puppy goes to doggie day care. We walk 40 minutes to and from the daycare and my work is less than a 5 minute walk from it so I visit on lunch :). I got Sheila at 8 weeks and could only take a week off to be with her. The very young puppies are kept in ex pens (seperated based on what shots they have) and Sheila gets her own because shes so small at 1.9 pounds at 12 weeks. The puppies are kept right in the store and get lots of socialization with people and see all sorts of things. Half the time i walk in though she's in one of their arms because she's so cute :). The store is a pet supply/day care and the owners and employees are very loving and very anti puppy mill and pet stores! They see so many dogs people have gotten from pet stores and so often there are health problems :( . The main daycare is anywhere from 10-20 + dogs that play supervised at all times in a huge play area with lots of cubby holes they can go nap or relax in if they want and they get walked 3 times a day max 2 dogs at a time. I'm not sure how common doggie day cares are. Maybe I'm just lucky to live in a large city that is very dog friendly. I wanted my yorkie socialized at a young age and am glad to have the opportunity and such nice people to take care of her when daddy has to work. |
I too was fortunate to be able to take Toto with me when I worked. Since my husband has been on this project in Colorado I have been staying home with her. Now Patrick wants me to just retire where I can stay home with her every day! :( I have worked my whole life and don't know quite what to do with myself! I have never been very "domestic" ... but am a neat freak!! A doggy daycare would be wonderful! ;) |
I work full time too...from 7am until 6pm Dolce is alone...but then she is out for the rest of the night and all day on the weekends unless we are going somewhere where we are not allowed to take her. She is used to it now, but I still feel horrible leaving her. :( |
I haven't gotten my Yorkie yet, in about three weeks. I will be able to bring her to work with me, thank goodness. Other people bring their dogs in, but, most of them are small "toy" dogs, so they do pretty well. I also have a nice sized office, with a door on it, and it's very private. I do share my office with one other person, but, she doesn't mind. And being that my office is in a place that looks like a house, I'm on a third floor, where people hate climbing up the steps to see me, so lot's of emails, happen there. I do have to remember to get a baby gate for work... If you have your own office, and can shut the door, maybe you could bring your dog to work??? Carry it in a doggie purse, and then just keep it under your desk, maybe noone will notice. Yeah, a lot easier than it sounds, I know. Maybe look into Doggie Daycare for three days out of the week, or even two. That way you won't feel too bad. And if you can't do that, maybe leave the TV on, or some soft music in the background on. |
I work away from home for maybe three to four hours, then I work from home the rest of the day. I actually do a lot of work at home, so when I have to run errands, I'll take him with me. Or sometimes I get so wrapped up in my work that Otis gives me the incentive to get out and go for a walk to clear my head. I don't think he gets too lonely. I occassionally leave the TV on for him. |
I hope to be a Yorkie owner relatively soon... I am gone from 7:30 to 6:30 every day... This is one of my concerns as well. However, I will have someone at home to look in on the lil' pumpkin during the day. But I know what you mean... |
I work full time and bring Duke to the office with me whenever possible. If I can't bring him to work with me, I drop him off at Nana and Papa's house (his grandparents) and they spoil him all day. :p If my parents are on vacation and I can't bring Duke to work with me, then I just run home and check on him a few times a day. I'm fortunate enough to work about 10 minutes away from my home, so that makes checking on Duke a bit easier. |
My husband and I both work full-time. Stomper is left home alone from around 7:30 AM until around 5:00 PM. He is left in the kitchen (blocked by a baby gate) with toys, food, pottie pads, music and a bed. He does make some pottie mistakes, but is getting better. I always play with him for at least 20 minutes in the morning and all night once I get home. I take him on a walk when I get home from work too. It is tough... I feel so bad leaving him during the day. The most rewarding part is when I get home. He is so happy to see me and cries with joy! :) My puppy trainer told me that puppies tend to sleep 16 hours per day, so he should be fine during the day. He still cries when we leave in the morning, which makes me feel terrible. Hopefully in due time, this will stop and he will get used to it. Once he gets older, we plan to put a doggie door in the kitchen so that he will also have access to play outside. That might help. I don't think dogs like to be confined to a specific area. This will also encourage him to go pottie outside. |
I tried locking sebastain and jasmine in the kitchen with baby gates but they just climb over them so right now they have the run of the house and i leave the back slider open a little so they (and the cats) can go in and out but the yorkies dont go out so i have decided to try to put some beds and stuff in my garage and leave them out there they will be out there from 7 am till 3 pm (when my son comes home) they will have food, water, toys (heated bed) we will see how that works it's going to be very hard for me i feel like i'm locking my babies out of my house and i hate that but they potty all over the living room so that has to stop. Every morning when i leave sebastian crys and jumps up and nips me i dont think that will ever change. when i get home they jump all over me and give me kisss and sebastain grabs his ball and runs so i will chase him it's to cute. |
I work 8:00am to 5:00pm. I hate doing it, but since she is so small I put her in a mesh crate. She wines a lot when I put her in there. I usually will put one of my t-shirts in there with her and a clock. I was told that the clock ticking reminds them of their mothers heart beat...not sure if that’s true or not. Tonight I'm going to Petco to buy a gate so that I can leave her in our kitchen instead of the crate. I wish I could bring her to work with me. :( |
