Hi Karina!! I'm so happy you adopted a 5 year old yorkie! That's not too old at all!! I just adopted a 10 yr. old little girl and it's been alot of fun!!
Don't give up with the leash...just tug a little, if you can get her to move then let up on the leash...try to keep the forward momentum going....eventually she'll LOVE walking with the harness...its like anything else...its new to her...so it will take some time for her to get used to it!
Please feed her premium dog food....Thats really important for her overall health... Sounds good that you aren't free feeding...don't need her to gain more weight...:D
If your not sure about what kind to feed...you can go to this site and find out how the food rates.. Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings
I can't wait to see pics of your whole 'fur' family!! Good luck..and WELCOME to yt! :) | Thanks so much for the advice it's really helping keeping me motivated :D We tried walking again this morning and she's getting a little better. She will at least walk a little bit more now rather than making drag her. I feel so bad because I know she hates it, but I really need her to get used to it. It's so great that you adopted a 10 year old little girl! How long did it take her to get used to her new home? How long had she been with her previous family? How long did it take her to bond with you and her new siblings? I can see her getting more and more comfortable with us as the time passes so I'm hopeful!
As of right now I'm feeding her Purina One smart blend because that's what her previous family was feeding her. I did not want to change her food during this transition because she had never been with another family before. I felt that changing her diet would only ad more stress to this little baby so I decided to continue her on that food for a little while longer while I researched other options that might help her loose weight. Our vet is pushing more exercise and science diet, which I'm personally not too fond of. I'm going to keep looking and researching and would very much appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks so much for the advice I really appreciate it !
