I am a Newbie but one of the reasons I joined Yorkie Talk was to read great stories about Yorkies. What is your very favorite "Yorkie Tale" that best illustrates your dog's personality, funniest trait or greatest triumph? Ok I have a great story that happened about 2 weeks ago. Our backyard was covered in ice for weeks at least 2ft solid ice. I called it the frozen Tundra lol. Jersey and Brielle would go out and walk on it, they looked like Rudolph walking on the ice sliding a little. Well Brielle got very daring and followed Jersey to the back of the yard. I called for them to come in, Jersey came right in and little Miss Brielle just ignored me would not come in, would not even look at me.
I started telling Jersey "your sister is being a bad girl, she will not listen to her Mommy, go get Brielle tell her to come in" He did!!! I was shocked, he went over to her planted his paws in front of her and gave her a bark like no other bark I ever heard. She headed for the door and he stayed behind her all the way in ( he usually passes her so he can be 1st in). I couldn't believe it. I've tried it again and sad to say he just lookes at me as if to say "you want her, go get her":D

Oh, my goodness. How cute. That is just what we need - more adorable stories. It proves that dogs understand English and know what needs to be done. Wouldn't you love to have a video with sound of all of that? Sometimes I wish I could turn my eyes and ears into a camera with sound and record all of that cute stuff for posterity. We had snow down here in Dallas over the Superbowl week and my Tibbe had a blast in it and he didn't want to come in either as he was having so much fun jumping about in the snow. I don't really have a specific cute story, but a funny trait of Zoe's. When she is annoyed with something someone's done (and that can be moving slightly while she's asleep on you, putting her clothes on, combing her...the list goes on) she makes a short little, sound EVERY time. It's a PHIT!!!! sound.
She let's us know:D

Tibbe does the exact same thing as Jinger, responding to my "wrong" actions by snorting! I always know when Mr. Tibbs' little nose is out of joint over something I've done as he never forgets to comment.

When our family goes to the dog park Lily is such a snob. She always gets lots of attention from other dogs but refuses to even acknowledge they are there. :eek:
Anyway when we bring our children who are 3 and 5 Lily does a figure 8 between them the whole time. No man or dog will get near my kids with Lily on patrol... in fact one little growl from our 8lb girl and even the big dogs head for the hills lol;)

Harley has found his voice, and now every time we walk into puppy class he starts barking, well my coaches just burst out laughing, cause we're in class with all these big dogs, who are causing much worse problems, and there's Harley, just trying to fend off all these big monsters... no one can keep a straight face when he goes into those fits. He is so smart though and makes me proud. I think the best thing about him is that everyone he meets loves him.

Oh, you all, I am just lapping all of the GREAT Yorkie stories up! This is great! But tell your other dog stories too - about any other dogs you have/had that have great stories we should all have the privilege of knowing. Reading about our furballs fun and lovely antics in enriching our time on this earth is so pleasurable. I KNOW it releases endorphins - that's why we can't get off the site. I don't spend any more time at the computer than I have to as not really able but something keeps drawing me back to the computer now that I have found Yorkietalk.com!

Well, I have a true ankle bitter! When Remy and his big brother, Winston(schnauzer), play Remy will bite winston's ankles! Sometimes he will hold on and Winston will take him for a ride around the living room. Winston gets so aggravated and gives me his big sad eyes like, "get this little monster off of me Mommy!"

Remy and Winston sound like a real hoot. Love to see that action! Would also love to have another dog to love and play with Tibbe.

Sometimes it's good and other times I'm like what have I gotten myself into! Lol I don't see how other's on YT have more than two!

Ok, not cute but this really happened/ we has just gotten a first Yorkie (Quincy) about four months earlier when my daughter and I went to Savannah GA on a girl scout trip. My husband and four yr old son decided to go to the Toledo or as he says Paludo Zoo for the day. Well they left and decided to leave Quincy out of his cage while they were gone. Not a great idea.... He had this habit of jumping up on the kitchen table so that could see us when we go out side in the yard. Well, he did just that on that day and he was unable to get down ! He spent the entire day on the kitchen table, and when he had to go pee, he went right on the fruit bowl. There was still some left in the bottom of the bowl when we returned form our GA trip. Not prettty...

I'll bet THAT is true and you are right about more than two - wow, that's got to be a big time job raising more than two. But I wish I were up to it - I believe I'd go to my reward with a huge smile on my face after having mothered more than two dogs at once. Okay, and maybe more than a few grey hairs!

My yorkie makes me laugh everyday...I guess 2 of the main things he does are "giving hugs" and "sneezing"

When you tell him big hugs, he gets up by your neck and flops over on his back or side and just wiggles and snuggles as close as he can get!

We get on to him for barking in the house, so he learned to "sneeze" instead of bark to get our attention!! He will sit at my feet and "sneeze" repeateldy until I do what he wants!!

I have a question for you............are you by chance writing or collecting these stories in order to write a book?

This story is about my previous Yorkie, Gretchen who died 2 yrs ago at the ripe old age of 17 yrs & 9 months. She was of course a lot younger in this story.
Getting ready for work one morning I heard her jump off the bed (she always stayed in bed till SHE was ready to get up!) She came into the bathroom limping and of course I showered her with love & concern. I gave it a few minutes & she still held her foot up so I carefully carried the little sweetie to the car & off to the vet... Kept pouring on the concern of course. When we arrived I sat her down on a patch of grass to take care of business before going in. She started going crazy with excitement wanting to run around fast & smelling. Obviously, it wasn't broken or hurt too bad. I didn't want to pay an unnecesary vet bill when she obviously didn't have a broken leg. Loaded her back in the car and she acted totally fine all the way home which was about 20 minutes. The moment I sat her down in the kitchen floor she looked at me, lifted up her paw and started limping! I really believe she was just milking it for more attention.:yelrotflmWhen I got back home from work a few hours later she was just fine. The little turkey.

This store is about my old lady Bailey, she passed last Oct at 15 yrs old :( RIP sweet girl!!

When I first got Bailey at 11 weeks old, I had a Cat name Rex not much older than Bailey...he too is gone now...but they were like 2 peas in a pod best of buds...Once Rex got older he started scratching at my door frames.:eek:..I started using a spray bottle with water in it to get him to stop and yelling NO to him...well after months of doing this...one day Rex started scratching at the frame and before I could get to my spray bottle Bailey was on him like you wouldn't believe and made him stop.:D..I never after that day had to say another word or use the spray bottle ever again...Bailey did it for me :D...as soon as Bailey heard him start to scratch at the frames, she was like a bullet...barking and jumping on him to get him to stop...I just know...she was say....Mom Rex is scratching at the door again, here I will get him. LOL

Love it! I think that is a cute story - it's so typical "dog". Thank goodness he had the sense to stay on that table and not risk hurting himself trying to get down! I know I'd have to use the fruit bowl too if I were somehow stuck on the table! But seriously, I think it's things like this that we long remember about our dogs - just the odd, funny little thing that happened and turned out well over all. I can just see the scene when you all walked into the room and observed all of that. Recall how Quincy was looking as you stood there surveying all that?

We should meet somewhere between Mesquite and Allen and let Tibbe and Zoe have a playdate.:)

No, I wouldn't even know how. I just love reading cute dog stories as I am a dogaholic and just found this website but no real kind of longish stories to read in any one thread where you could just go and read story after story without jumping onto thread after thread. My computer is so slow that takes a while! Anyway, I think YorkieTalk.com has sole legal rights to everything published here. Am strictly a reader and enjoyer of all things "dog".

Awesome! I've never known of another dog that could sneeze at will. We used to have an American Eskimo/Spitz (Jack...I still have dreams about him visiting me and he died about 6 years ago...), whom we taught to sneeze on command. It was so much fun.

Ah, that reminds me of a funny story about Jack. Long ago when he was a young dog we had a friend who always had really ditzy girlfriends. They were visiting one night and Jack was in the room with us. Ditzo commented, "He's such a cute dog, what kind is he?" Hubby: He's a Spitz. Ditzo: "HE SPITS???!!!" while jumping back from him about 5 feet. :eek::confused::D

Funny dog story about Cooper, our cavalier. One morning I could not find Cooper anywhere. He wasn't a puppy anymore, but usually stayed near me for the most part. Now, you need to know that Cooper believes in a consistent bed time--9:30 go to bed, 8-9 am get up. Not before, not after. I called and called, looked and looked, closets, pantry, garage...no Cooper. Finally decided maybe he'd gotten stuck under our bed. Walk over to the bed to see a mound...under the covers, MADE INTO THE BED :eek: Not, "crawled under the spread" mound, MADE INTO THE BED...under the sheet and the blanket which were tightly tucked in over him, under the comforter...couldn't have gotten out if he wanted to. Hubby (who can't get a little preoccupied with things that are on his mind...like work) had NOT noticed he made a 15-lb. dog into the bed. I tell that story on him every chance I get. ;)
P.S. At least he made the bed.

Thank you thank you thank you all for these great stories! When I first found out about Yorkies in the 1970's, I thought they were the cutest dogs in the world. I became aware of a magazine called "Yorkie Tales" but it was too expensive for me to subscribe to at the time. I could not afford a Yorkie for a long time either that decade until I got Scotty in 1978 - my very first Yorkie. But I always imagined that that magazine must have had loads of cute stories of Yorkies in it but sadly I could only imagine what they said. Finally, when I became successful in my work and could afford it, Yorkie Tales was no longer being published. Now that I'm disabled, working a little from home and had long given up on "Yorkie Tales", you all are giving me my very own version of it daily! Thank you.

Jinger, I would love it but probably will have to be after I have surgery am pretty housebound right now. Tibbe LOVES other dogs and is just beside himself when he gets around another dog. He especially loves other Yorkies! If I can get my surgery this spring or summer, after rehab, we have a date. Tibbe and I would love it!

By the way, I realized after re-reading my posts that I comment on all of my dogs except poor Emma. Emma is our 8-year-old blenheim cavalier. She does nothing. Really. Nothing. She lays on the back of the couch, goes out to go potty, and eats. She is always just perfectly content with her life...whether going for a walk, sleeping, staying in her crate, all of it...same demeanor.
That's HER story. ;)

Every little dog should have his right to live as he or she wants. Not every dog has to walk on the ceiling or dance and sing hit tunes to make life with them great. Just their living their lives in their calm dignity is fascinating and a daily fix for the dog lover.
