Big Congratulations on your new Yorkie and best of wishes to you all as you begin your adventure together. There is so much good information on this site that it will be hard to not learn a lot pretty quickly as these folks are dog smart and have taught me so much in a week. Post pictures as early and often as you can so we can all follow along as your baby grows and develops. I had a Yorkie with that knee condition that lived to be 12 1/2 years but wasn't severe enough for surgery. Get a second opinion before you commit to surgery and all the best to your family. |
Welcome. I'm glad to hear you say you love her no matter what. That's what really matters. As for lessons in life, you can teach her everything she needs to know for the time being. Enjoy! |

Hi Tiffany, I hope you and Luna enjoy YT as much as Zoe and I have! I have a Cavalier King Charles who had luxating patella that was diagnosed before age 1. The vet had me watch it. After a couple of months it was obviously causing him a lot of pain so he had surgery on his left side. At the time, the vet said the other side had it, but who knew how long it would be until it was bad. He's 6 now, and hasn't needed surgery on that side yet. So there it is...my own personal study, with 50/50 odds :D. The surgery did go just fine, and I comforted myself by holding him approximately 23 1/2 hours per day for about the first week home. :) Enjoy Luna...and YT! |
Welcome and congratulations. Luna could get to 7-8 lbs or she may grow quickly and stop by 6 months. As far as the LP, if it is a very mild grade 1 she may never have problems. A few things you can do to help prevent it from getting worse are use ramps and or stairs for her to get up and down off furniture, limit jumping, keep her from getting overweight and ask your vet about supplements like glucosemein to help her joints. Can't wait to see pictures. |
