A New Hope 4 Attachment(s) I have recently rescued a little girl and I have contacted rescues to see if any can take her in as her medical bill will be more than I can afford. I'm a student who is passionate about saving animals, but am limited financially. Unfortunately, the rescues that I have contacted will only take dogs without medical needs...which I thought was absurd. Thus, I have decided to help her myself and I have taken her to the vet to get an estimate of all that she needs. The story of Hope: The start of Hope's life is a mystery, but it sure did not lead her to a happy life. She was not provided the basic care a dog needs, both physically and emotionally. Her teeth are rotting inside her mouth, which makes it difficult for her to eat. She is so skinny that you can feel her every rib, ribcage, and spine. She has cried so much that the skin below her eyes are scabbing. Her hairs are so matted (even on her tiny tail!) because nobody really cared about her. Her nipples are evidence that she's given birth before, which breaks your heart because she weighs barely 4 lbs. Hope have been traumatized by her experiences. Have you ever met a dog that crouches at the sight of strangers? A dog that is not into treats because she doesn't know what it is? A dog that doesn't know a thing about sniffing and rolling around in the grass? Well, that's Hope, whose original name was Chanel. I have renamed her Hope because I know she has the potential to be the best yorkie she's destined to be, despite her history. Please, let us all give Hope a second chance! Thank you! |
Yes I have met a dog like that my Scoobers is a pup mill dumpee. I feel ill looking at her pics I can't imagine how she feels...if you don't find anyone in your area in the next couple days pm me...I think there are two people on here who actually run or are part of Yorkie rescues in your area...hope they jump right in here to help. |
I wish you luck in rehoming Hope. However if you have not talked to the mods about this thread, please do so, as donation solicitation is an "iffy" post. |
I'm sorry I misread your post, I thought you were looking for someone to take her in and who was willing to cover her medical issues...I just messaged a lady I know who runs a rescue closer to you than I am...if you want me to pass on the response she give me I will gladly do so. Commendable you are taking this all on, on your own...are you going to be keeping her and taking on all of after care yourself too...sorry I'm nosy. I can say from experience a "special needs" dog with certain behavioral traits TAKES A LOT of care, effort and time working with them...I too went through it learning as I went but I wouldn't wish that on anyone! What works for most dogs isn't the same as a rescue from big things to the littlest. In the least I really recommended talking to some people who are familiar with the special needs and methods of working with dogs like this, I'm no expert I've just been there and gone through it too and I am more than willing to offer you what I know from advice passed to me and what I've learned in my own experience. |

My savannah shares the same horrible beginning as your hope does. she doesn't know the difference between kind hands and those that abuse though after 3 weeks she's sure coming along with a lot of patience. she didn't know what a treat was..what outside was...walks (she does those as of thursday night after almost 3 weeks of trying slowly and much patience and the doggie stroller to get her used to outside) her teeth as well need a serious cleaning. she is only 3.6lbs and had two litters of puppies that was admitted to with her being 4 years old and almost died on her 2nd litter and needed a csection. I am blessed to have access to rascal unit which is a non profit organization but they also offer vet care and their prices even without discounts etc are amazing. I had a total workup done blood/stool for savannah including a microchip and bortadella shot 144.00 for her teeth and spay the estimate was 150 to 279.00 (depending on teeth needing pulled) so you for sure need to find a place like this. god bless your heart for taking her under your wing try feeding her natural balance moist food as well to get some weight on her. I am not sure what the vet said about what she needed already but around her eyes it looks like tearing that most yorkies have. I used to tell my binky eye boogs have to go and I'd work in softening it up with a cotton pad soaked in water then I'd take a baby toothbrush and brush it out working on get it cleaned off. I do the same with my savannah she needs a bath tomorrow and hates eyes clean mode but she's getting used to my daily fussing with her. I think you need to get the clippers out if she is that matted and cut her hair down. I don't think the stitch ripper will help with matts to the skin or even using the scissors the same way to break up the matt. |
I also thought you were trying to place her in a rescue and for sure you have come to the right place because the yorkie community is very tight and they'd find her help fast. Even foster homes are chosen carefully based on needs. permanent homes are even more carefully chosen based on the dogs assessment. When I pulled Savannah I had just lost my 11 year yorkie less than a month before and it had to be done. My girls had me pull her because I was closest and said get her and foster her. They know me better than I do it turns out we both needed each other and she's the light of my life. Keep in mind most homes found for her will be a lot like me who lost their yorkie after having them a long time and just want someone to love on. all my kids except one is grown and married and all I do most of the day is dote on this little dog. |

You also stated at the the top of this post you were looking for a rescue to take her in, then you stated you were going to this yourself. This poor baby needs to see a Vet immediately and have blood work done and get on some antibiotic for those teeth. While I commend you for taking in this baby, you also stated you can't afford the Medical needs that she needs so very badly as you are student. You should never take in what you can't afford. PLEASE contact a Rescue to take this baby so she can get the helps she so very much needs. |

I hope you can find a rescue for the little one |
Bless you for taking in this little girl. She had a rough start in life and thanks to you her life will be much better. |
I could be wrong but she looks like she has yeast on her face. I have gotten dogs with yeast & the tears actually burned their skin & their face was balding. As soon as the yeast was under control the hair came back in. I'm going to assume that you have taken her to the vet, what do they say about her skin condition ? |
I wouldn't knock anyone for trying to help...but yes you need to be in a position to help...and immediate medical need seems needed. I also thought it looks yeasty but until she gets medical treatment it could be mange, skin infections, allergies...who knows. Quote:
