I don't think they live in packs. Wolves live in packs, but Coyotes are usually solitary animals. They are moving into suburban area because we keep building in their habitats. I saw one in the hills heading into a neighborhood once. It was garbage night and I think they know how to get food. Also, all the cats in my area have disappeared :( |

Lights and even daylight will not detour a hungry coyote...but I'd leash my babies at night even going in the yard to potty and carry bear mace. personally I'm raccoon most but also skunk and possum paranoid here... |
I agree that you need to be VERY careful if you have coyotes in your area. We live out in "the country" and even though research may indicate that coyotes tend to be noctournal, it isn't uncommon for us to see them during daylight hours. We have seen them hunt in a pack to take down a deer (it escaped) and we have been scrutinized by a large pack while helping a neighbor "do his cows". It was very un-nerving having the coyotes watch our every move. |
