Bike riding??? Hi! Was wondering if anyone has taken their yorkie bike riding, I am consider a front pack or a back pack and was wondering if anyone had any input? Thanks fairly new to being active on YT and still trying to figure out where to post stuff, so you might see this question a couple times! :):aimeeyork Mindy |
I for one would never take my yorkie on a bike. I would be afraid of an accident. If something were to happen I would just want it to happen to me and not to my dog. |
I do take my girls with me bike riding...and they absolutely LOVE it! I've NEVER had an accident and only ride on paved bike trails!! Last summer we used a backpack...but I also made sure to put their harness on and attach the leash/harness to the top of the backpack...just to ensure they didn't jump out for any reason and get hurt!! My sister got a basket for the front of her bike....and her girls just LOVE it!! She does use their harness and secure them! I'm going to do that this summer!!:D Happy trails!! Oh yah...Welcome to YT! |
2 Attachment(s) Mine LOVE bike riding!! I bought them helmets and doggles and I made the strap with leash hooks at both ends for the harness and the wire basket. Doesn't get any better than this........... |

OMG! I love it! I was envisioning more of a front pack, but I think I am going to have to go with a basket....looks more comfy. I love the little helmet! Where did you get it? :) I love YT... I love my little dog so much, I swear some people think I am crazy! I never would have been able to ask my question on facebook! :aimeeyork Thank you! |

I take Remy bike riding. We have a front basket (I also use it as a car seat) and we go on bike paths. She loves it. Be sure you have them attached with a harness. Enjoy!!!!!! |

Lol, Jackson runs beside me on the bike. That's what I thought you meant when I read the original thread title. Unfortunately, I don't have a bike of my own so I can only do it when I visit my dads house. But we ride up and down the street and he happily runs beside me. I like to rollerblade with him better. |

Go Yorkiedaze! and I love the helmets and harnesses attached so they can't accidentally fall out! Seriously, your picture has inspired me to put a basket on the bike we're restoring! |

Where did you get your basket? The one my sister got is a lot smaller than that...but I bet I could fit all 3 of my girls in that basket you have your two in!! |
1 Attachment(s) I haven't taken Gulliver yet because he's still a puppy and waaaay to rambunctious to sit in the basket, but Soph loves bike rides. We keep the bikes inside the apartment so they don't grow legs:rolleyes: while we're at work, and it only took her about three times to learn that she can jump up on the back of the couch and right into the bike basket and she's ready to go. I cross tie her with two leashes, one from either side of the basket, so she can't jump out. Also, since this pic was taken I've added a padded lining so her little toenails don't get caught in the mesh of the basket. Attachment 338224 |

Here ya go. Before ordering this basket, I suggest you measure to see if it will fit on your handlebars. My bike is a beach cruiser and doesn't have gears on the handles, so I have all the room needed for this large basket. I also made a different pad for the bottom that isn't so warm or so thick, but still padded. In those pictures I have them tethered in with leashes, but have since made short restraint's (using bias tape, doubled) with leash type clips at each end. They work so good. I'll have to have hubby take pictures of all three of our Yorkettes in that basket with helmets AND their pink doggles. ;) BIKE BASKET FRONT - XTRA LARGE |
oh gosh far too cute my binky loved to ride on my hubby's disability scooter...she actually rode at this feet on the carpeted area. |

I don't know when I have EVER seen anything so cute. I want to get a basket for my bike soon. But my riding area is limited here. I see alot of people posted that they were going to get a basket last summer and ride. So how many of you did? Post more pics:yeahthat: Suzy & Chanel:aimeeyork |

Yorkiedaze, I am still waiting to see some pictures of all three Yorkie girls in that basket with helmets and pink doggles. |
I won't go out on the bike without my hubby, but soon I hope. ;) |
I have seen handlebar baskets for little dogs that have seat belts attached. I'm sure they must sell them online somewhere. |
1 Attachment(s) here is what I use |
