There are two ways you may pursue this "identification"... One is establish a "Paper Trail" of the animal's Ancestry through the Pet Store/Breeder who furnished the animal. However, with a current copy of "Photoshop" on one's computer, one could prove that it came directly from the Duke and Dutches of Yorkshire, if they wanted to. The other is DNA Testing. Many "have herd" that this is not a reliable way to establish Ancestry. That's true, it establishes a "Blood Line", which can be quite different from Ancestry, though they should complement each other ! IF everything is on the up and up. There are AKC approved DNA Test available, and... Metaphorically speaking: Lineage tells you of the Trunk and its Branches, DNA tells you that the Leaves are all the same color.
