They said one thing that really surprised me. They pointed out 4 breeds that were used in the development of the Yorkshire Terrier. The first three -- Clydesdale, Paisley, and Skye --- I have always heard were Yorkie ancestors. But the last one -- the Airedale -- shocked me. I have never heard that before.

Has anyone else ever heard that?

Yes I have a Yorkie History book and they list it there too.

I just got The New Complete Yorkshire Terrier and it says the Airedale as an ancestor of the yorkie is a huge misconception. It's a very interesting book to have, but it reads like a history textbook. Not a problem for me though, my major in college was history. :p

Being second most popular is not really a good thing beause they will be in more demand driving up prices and even more over breeding from BYB. Increase thieft. Thes things already exist but it will become more of a problem.

yup. as much as we all love the breed it's kinda a double edged sword. yay that they are liked but yikes that the whole country demands such a beautiful little dog and the commercial breeders will be overflowing with them to supply the market demand :( which is very very sad because then they end up in the wrong hands and shelters and rescues become full of them :(

I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad yorkies are well liked. Kaji was able to melt the heart of a person who is afraid of dogs and my older brother's indifferent heart. They both consider Kaji family now. :) But, theft is the #1 thing I fear. I guess I should be glad most people think he's a mix.

The theft is a big fear. My DH and I agree that when we are out and about with Dinky, we definitely feel this vibe from a person once in a while that makes us think that person would steal Dinky if he or she could. In fact, I might start just saying, "Who knows?" when strangers ask me what breed he is.
