Angry... Need to Vent My boss told me yesterday that she's thinking of rehoming her dog that she's had for eleven years because she can't continue caring for her. Since she was promoted to Predident last May she said the dog doesn't get enough attention. Then she continues to tell me that she dropped the dog off to get checked because she had a couple that was interested in taking her dog. The vet called her and told her that the dog has medical issue (liver and eye) and since she's thinking of rehoming the dog perhaps she should consider PTS. She said she would call the vet back. Well I guess she asked the couple if they wanted to still take the dog and they said no, so now she is going to PTS. I don't agree with this because she should give the dog to a rescue. I realize that with a sick dog there's going to be monetary expenses involved because I have a sick baby myself, but to just decide to end the dog's life?!!!! It's eating me up inside... Am I being irrational? |
I think you boss is a heartless witch. Did she ever love the dog and if so, how can you just fall out of love with your pet? |
You are not being irrational at all!!!! How can this woman abandon a sick dog???? My dog has health issues and needs medication and I could never, ever give him up!!!!! I love him so much. No matter what he needs he gets. I hope she can find someone else to take this poor dog. He needs love and compassion. This is so upsettting. |
I do not understand people like your boss. To have a dog for 11 years , and want to get rid of ??? then finding out the dog has medical issues , now she probably thinks she has an excuse to PTS . To me this is selfish , heartless, mean , and cruel. How disgusting. I wonder how she would feel when she is in her 80's becomes ill , and her family decides to put her to sleep  |
I don't think you are being irrational either. I'd have a hard time working for or with the individual. :( I surely hope that when she gets old and needs help that someone helps her and she remembers her poor doggie friend of 11 years. I take exception to the vet's recommendation. You'd think that the vet would recommend rescue and PTS only as a last resort. |
I think that people fall into two black and white camps on this issue: either you are willing to spend a lot of money on a sick dog (like most of us) or you are not. Those that would NOT, don't seem to understand that we love our pets as family and treat them as family. They simply don't get it and never will. |
I know and I tried to nicely tell her all the health issues Bailey has and I still love and care for him and she cut me off and said "oh forget that". Then has the audacity to sit there and tell me how upset she is that she has to put her dog down and that the dog has been a part of her family for 11 years. That her dog is like a part of her family. Well then my issue is then why just pts without trying to at least find a new home. Would you do that to your child? And why would the vet even put that thought in her head?! UGH!!!! |
I don't think that is fair at all....would you do that to your child, let alone an eldery parent? That makes me so mad, that people get puppies, and don't think about the future of that pet. I do however, agree to PTS an animal if their quality of life dwindles or cannot get beter via surgery or medications. What a flake! |
What the h*ll. this just p*sses me off |
I agree too but she told me the vet said that it was treatable with medicine. Quote:

Me too!!! |
That really is a shame, her vet should try to help re home her dog....... |
Losing a pet is like losing a part of the family. I do not understand people who can just give their beloved family members away. :( |
every time I think about it I cry. I keep thinking that tonight will be this little babies last night on earth. She has no idea what's in store for her tomorrow. |

If the dog was healthy enough to be shipped (since there is no way I could drive to Illinois) I would definitely take her!! That's so sad, I don't see how someone could just do something like that. |

Your post broke my heart and shot my blood pressure through the roof. I just cannot understand getting rid of a family member after 11 years like this. Some people..... |
My son's Black Lab is 11 yrs old, he's had her since he was 17. She has joint problems, dental problems and has cataracts. Never would he/we think of PTS unless she was in pain that couldn't be controlled. I had to put my 17 yr old cat, Torie down, she was fading fast and not eating, drinking, or leaving her bed. It was really hard. My husband and I were both sobbing. If it came to not being able to care for a pet, REHOME!!!! |
You may want to call the Green Pup Shelter at 847-946-1735 http://greenpupshelter.org/. They foster but as of yet do not have their own facility. They are located in the NW burbs of Chicago. |
To the OP...why don't you take the dog and place it into rescue or find someone to take it so it won't be PTS? I know I've taken in a couple of friends dogs just to avoid the same thing and found homes.... Donna |
OMG.... She is so selfish. I feel sad for the poor dog.... |
I know it's a small dog but not sure what kind. We have two offices at my work one in Springfield and one in Elk Grove Villiage. Unfortunately the dog is 3 hours away from me and when I talked to my boss about re-homing the dog she said it would be too much of a burden for someone else. She is unwilling to look at that aspect. |
Ok...What does "PTS" mean?? |

this just sucks all around. she wouldn't even consider leaving the dog with you? geez. she's selfish and mean hearted if you ask me. |
nope... she's already taken him to the appointment at 4:00pm today. makes me so mad! |
People like that just confirm my belief that most people are just plain and simple selfish jerks!:( We can only hope that she is treated the same in her "Golden" years! |
