Irresponsible Dog Owners!!!!!
 

OMG.... So let me start of by saying " If you buy a puppy/dog, ONLY do it if you know your going to be able to give it the care and love it deserves!!!! "

So our neighbor (whom i never have spoken too) apparently bought-was given-idk. a little chihuahua puppy about a week ago. Last night i heard the puppy out side as I got home around 9ish. I saw our neighbor, but not the puppy. I didnt really give the situation a second thought. Let me just say that it has been roughly 30 degrees here, raining, and snowing for a couple days. So not comfortable weather. Well my partner got home from work around 5 today, and heard the puppy whining. He walked over to a fence about a 100 feet away from our town houses and found the little puppy in a 8x10 rabbit cage!!!!! She was shivering cold, covered in soaking wet towels, and had a can of soggy catfood to eat. REALLY!?! Who in their right mind would put a little puppy no more than 10 weeks old in this situation?? Both of us furious, polity took the puppy inside, gave her some water/puppy food, and wrapped her in a little blanket. The owner wasnt home, and i wasnt about to take the puppy back to them. So we took pictures of the cage and of her. Im not one to cause problems with anyone and I know we probably should have called the cops. Instead we took her to Petsmart, bought her some food, and nutrical. We took the little baby to a friend of ours where i know she will be cared and loved like she deserves. Im not even sure if they have noticed she is gone or even care. UGH... Im still so mad, but i hope what we did was the right thing...... Sorry so long!

I would have done the same thing. I hope that dog never goes back to your neighbor. Wonder how she would feel if she were treated that way. P's me off!

As far as im concerned that puppy has found a great home, and will NOT be going back there!!!

Wow, what a horrible situation, I know what you did is not legal, but I don't blame you at all. This dog would not have lived if she had been allowed to stay like that, and I hope you don't get into any trouble over this. So glad you found a good home for this little one, maybe if the weather hadn't been so extreme you could have waited, but it's a good thing you took action.

OMG!!! How horrible! 30 degree weather for a puppy?!?!?! Not for more than just a short walk to go potty - and then back in to a nice warm home. Unbelievable! I commend you for doing what you did (even though it was probably legally wrong). You probably saved the dog's life.

OMG. What a horrible thing for them to do to that baby. Thank God for people who care about His animals. Buuuuutttt.....you basically said you stole that puppy. Now don't get me wrong, given the same situation I know for a fact I probably would have done some of the same things. But to come up here and say..so long? You should have kept that to yourself. I hope you get in no trouble (not that I am or would be the cause) and I know you did what WAS best for that baby. But please, some things are better unsaid....sh.

Could you have gone to the owners and asked that if they didn't want the puppy or could care for the pup maybe they culd give it to you. Or tell them that if you ever see anything remotely like this or even that if you THOUGHT something was wrong with that puppy that you have this documented and will turn him in for animal cruelty?
Have the owners been looking for him? Posters? Anything? Wow...I will definitely keep up with this post.

I definitely understand that it was exactly "legal" but i wasnt going to go tell them i was taking their dog. Honestly i dont think they care. Because we live in a small complex with only 4 townhouses. Id be knocking on all doors if my dog went missing!!! We havent heard a peep from them!?!

I don't blame you for acting emotionally, but it's definitely not a course of action I would recommend. In most states, dogs are considered property and what you did wold be considered theft. Depending on the value of the dog, in some areas it could be considered a felony. I hope no one saw you.

If they are not even interested by looking then I have to say...go baby go, run as fat as those little legs will carry you! You need to quit posting "everything" that is on your mind! LOL

What the "owners" did was illegal, too. Animal abuse. Poor lil puppy. Hooray! for you.:)

Obviously, they aren't worried about the puppy becoming "lost" if they haven't even checked with their neighbors. I'm sure you are out of the clear if they haven't even checked with neighbors to see if someone had seen their puppy!! Thank you for taking that baby to a better home!! Most people wouldn've turned the other cheek, but I'm so glad. You saved his little life!

Well i went and spoke with our neighbor about the puppy. She wasnt even phased that we took it. Apparently it was given to her, and it kept pooping and barking so she set it outside. She said she was going to take it to the pound tomorrow!!! So i guess thats that. It has a good home now, and she doesnt have to "deal" with it>

Good. I'm glad the puppy is safe and you don't have to worry about looking over your shoulder.

You did the right thing....you saved the dog's life!!!!!! How can people like that put their head on the pillow and sleep??!! They have no conscience. In my book, you are a hero!!!!

Even if this is illegal I am glad you did this. I would have done the same thing & the baby prolly would have been dead in a couple hours if you hadnt. I give you a ton a respect for doing this & saving the puppies life. Keep those pictures incase they are needed tho. If no one saw you do this I think that you will be fine & even if someone did NO ONE will blame you for doing this. You dont leave a dog outside at all in that weather, at all in any weather while you're not home I dont believe. & a dog isnt a rabbit, so it is NOT to be in a rabbit cage. I dont know what the heck is wrong with people. I honestly dont. I honestly am crying thinking about this. I dont understand how people can be so cruel. I dont get it. You are an angel. You saved that babies life & I respect & thank you for this so much. I just cant even imagine, I would have so much ANGER towards that person & so much sorrow for the little baby. Not only did you save the baby, but you gave it a home that will fill his/her life with happiness & love. some people may say what you did was wrong, but it wasnt. You are an angel. You deserve so much & that puppy will know that you have saved it. Maybe your pup can be friends with that one. I am so thankful towards you & so frustrated right now at the same time. You did the right thing. Glad you talked to the neighbor.... obviously she did not care what would of happened to the poor little puppy. It is doubtful that this baby would make it through the night. Chi's get very cold easily. tHey like to go under blankets because they become naturally cold , and shiver, shake even inside.

My brother found a yorkie pup 10 days ago running the streets downtown in very cold weather .... He gave her to me. Since then I have not been able to locate the orginal owners. She was filthy, smelly , and cold. Matted badly as well. The pup is around 5 months. I still have her. Nobody has come to claim her. :( It makes me angry and very sad to see these thingshappening to innocent little puppies. You are correct , this type of thing really makes me very angry. :mad:

:thumbup: I totally agree. A little Chi puppy is not going to survive outside for long in the cold and snow. Therefore, they are guilty of neglect, abuse, and, if not for you, possibly the death of their puppy. I would not be pointing any fingers if I were them.

You did the right thing. That poor puppy! Some people don't deserve to have pets.:mad:

Has anyone noticed that a lot of people lack common sense? How in the world you can put any pup outside and not give one thought about it is just scary. I am glad you did a "rescue" of this little one and now has a warm loving home.

Who cares if it's legal. you saved the life of a puppy that never would have made it through the night. Your neighbor didn't care that what she was doing was illegal. Someone like that should be tied to a tree in the cold and rainy weather. I don't know what I would have done to this person if I had seen this poor puppy. Anyway I'm glad you spoke to the dirtbag and that this puppy will have a good home.

I totally agree that some people should not be pet owners.

Wow, that took some courage, good for you! Ten weeks old and it was pooping and barking, how horrible! How can anyone be so heartless? So proud of you and what you did, if everyone were as involved as you, this would be a better world!

There are actually a lot of good reasons for caring if it's legal or not. First and foremost is your own physical safety. In this case, it worked out that the owner (I use that word loosely) didn't care. But this isn't always the case and you could just as likely end up with the type of person who thinks retaliation is best. The next reason is that you could be charged with a crime, even though you were acting in the best interest of the dog. Legal fees aren't cheap. The last reason, is that by doing it this way, there is no record on file of their neglect and abuse, and therefore, no consequences for them.

I think that in most cases, it would be a much better idea to call either animal control or the local police and tell them that there is an animal in peril. Let them come and take their pictures, file their reports and possibly press charges.

While I think most of us would react in a manner similiar to the OP and we believe that the judicial system would look the other way, theft and rescue are not the same thing in the eyes of the law.
