Oh Steve I'm so tickled for you and Marge! This is such great news that y'all decided to open your lives to a new baby! Little Basil is such a lucky little man and I'm sure Carlo and Maxine will be great big siblings after the initial " shock" is over, lol! I'm familiar with the Basilone name after having watched the "Pacific". By the way, two of the featured men on that show(Sidney Phillips and John Sledge) are from my neck of the woods.!

Yes, Alabama. We feel that we are the lucky ones. Basilone is one of the giants of the Corps. He was mentioned in the first History and Traditions Lectures that I ever sat thru. So long ago, but I still remember it like yesterday. He did not have to go back, yet he did. Now that is a Hero.

Congrats on the new recruit, Steve! I'm sure he'll do his namesake proud. Those little Yorkie Marines are so cute...they salute with their hind leg! :D

What a great little story. No boot camp for little Basil....they prefer praise and kindness! Now Carlo, different story.

LOL, Joey learned how to do the Marines salute at the age of 7 months!

I've never read that story before, how interesting that a little 4 pound Yorkie was a war hero! We should have that story in the library.

haha Steve... I will have to try and dig up a picture of the green flight suit I made for another YT member when she was giving one of her puppies to her dad who was a marine...

We kept it a secret from Carlo and Maxine too. We sat them down the other day and told them. Carlo shrugged and keep chewing on his bone. Maxine sneezed, spun around 3 times, and ran into the other room.

A good Corso is a terrific companion. They can also take all the abuse a Yorkie can throw at them.

Only initially.....Carlo was fully house trained in less than a week, with an occasional accident if it was our fault in the first month. Pee pads would not work. You would need a King Bed comforter, layered in plastic.

We are still working with Maxine, almost 14 years later, hoping she finally gets it! :D

I have Smoky's Book. A very famous yorkie. Terri Schumsky/Breeder-Vassar Square/Judge designed a beautiful hairremics of him that sits in the doggie hall of fame.

Just curious. Do you remember how much Carlo weighed when you brought him home as a puppy?

He was around 17 pounds as a 9 week old Pup. at 3 months he was 30, at 6 months 60, at 9 months 90, at a year 105, at 2 years 130. His high was 140, and when he got to be 7 I swithched him to Senior food and got him down to 120ish where he stayed until the cancer last may. After the surgery he dropped to 109, but now is at a good 135 pounds, but very solid. The weight now is because of the Prednisone that he will be on as long as he is around, and the winter where it is harder to walk him.

He comes from a line of larger, muscular Corsi. Most will vary between 110 and 140 for males, and 85-110 for females. Carlo has a few brothers that went 160 and no fat.

As with the Yorkie, you buy the breeder first, and then the pup. There are only 5 Corso breeders in the entire USA that I would recommend.
