I don't understand why people are dog trainers if they don't love ALL dogs?!:mad::thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown

I think dog trainers get in the habit of "ordering" and "demanding" certain behaviors and they forget it can't apply to people. I took my Akita years ago and in the middle of our ring the trainer stated, "I don't know what it is about small people just having to have big dogs". I am a small woman and Eli was a big Akita and I have had other large breeds but I have had just as many small ones. I was young and felt threatened, Eli did well in the class but I never did. It was obvious he was implying I was making up for my lack of tallness with having a large animal to rely upon. He also told a man with a sheep dog that they were one of the dumbest breeds and he might as well drop out of the class, all of this was on the first night.

My advice, don't do what I did. Get right up in her face if she insults you again. Good luck with the training.

You would be surprized the number of people that have problems with Yorkies (and their owners). They think they are coddled little brats and that the owners are responsible for it.

I would stay, but just realize that she's making an a$$ out of herself. How do you think the others in the class felt about her comment? Probably thanking their lucky stars that is was you and not them the trainer singled out, and also think the trainer was rude.

She obviously knows nothing about Yorkies... I would be sure to bring him to class in a fully rhinestone studded halter with matching lead, and booties or sandals (his feet are too precious to even touch the floor!) and a beautiful topnot and bow each week.

Also, this was the first class? Duh, why does she think you were there? And you get to pay for abuse?

I didn't realize abuse was on the schedule... or do you charge extra for that???

If he knew how to walk on a leash, would I even be here?

Oh, he knows all this, I'm just here for a refresher course. Plus, I just love the verbal abuse. They should give you a raise!

Oh, really, I don't care if he gets trained or not... I just have nothing better to do on Wednesday nights.... I thought the socialization would be good for both of us.

Bend down and quickly cover Teddy's ears with your hands, and then look up and say (in your most serious tone) Please don't say stuff like that when he can hear you.... it'll hurt his feelings and he'll be depressed all week!

Pick him up and cuddle him then in baby talk say ' Oh Teddy, you poor baby, did you hear what that mean, old trainer said about you?' Then, act like he said something to you...' What did you say? You want me to say what? Okay... he said, 'ruff you!' Come on sweetie, let's go home and we'll have some ice cream and cookies, and I'll fluff up your pillow and we'll go to sleep in the big bed and forget this night ever happened!

I don't really care if he learns how to walk or not... I carry him everywhere anyway!

I think I'd be looking for a new trainer :).

You know what type of individual that you are dealing with and if you go back don't be offended with her snide remarks-- you know what to expect.

On the other hand you could work very hard with your little one and make her eat her words :)

I would feel hurt too. There is no need to single one person (and doggie) out and embarress them like that. If they had something to say, they could have politely called you to the side and spoken with you privately. That was unprofessional and uncalled for!! You are not being too sensitive. I would have felt the same way!

I would be tempted to point out that anyone claiming to be a dog trainer should know that small dogs tend to have delicate tracheas and should never be led with a collar.

Or take the high road and let it go unless she does it again -- in which case I would stop in my tracks and in my most dignified manner tell her that she is making a fool of herself when she belittles one of her students. Then get that refund.

Sounds like more than one person has had a snotty trainer. I was thinking of taking one of mine, so I'll be prepared for an equal snotty comeback in the event I also get a rude one.
People like that are just insecure and bullies. Ignore her remark, you know whether or not he did okay for his skill level.

The first class I went to.. the fee was non refundable. I was singled out too... very embarrassing... to the point I was considering going to watch and leave my dog at home (we really needed this course). I ended up going the next week, and I looked up and saw again the trainer approaching us... so I reached down and covered Sophie's ears with my hands... well the trainer rolled her eyes and almost stumbled... and everybody laughed... but the weirdest thing happened... after the class everybody walked up to me and introduced themselves and shook my hand... before that no one spoke to me at all!

I know everyone knows Yorkies are expensive dogs, and they must have thought I was a snob or something... IDK I just remember it was weird. But the trainer was never nasty to me again...

Not only this, but a trainer should also have social skills and knowledge on how to speak to other adults. If she felt that your furkid was struggling with learning proper leash techniques then instead of walking around observing, she should have given you some tips. She's not a good trainer at all and you guys didn't deserve that! :(
