In TEARS I'm so upset I don't know what to do.... On my way home from work today I saw a tiny, black, long haired chihuahua running down the edge of a busy road. The same road my babies, Crystal and Spike lost their lives on when they got away from my dogsitter. I turned the car around right away and got out trying to get him. He ran away from me... into the busy road. He didn't get hit but I was hysterical. I followed him with my hazzard lights on and everytime I saw an opportunity I stopped the car and tried to get him. Everytime I did, he ran,,, into the busy 5 lane highway. My daughter was in tears because she thought I was going to get hit trying to catch him. I turned my car around so many times, I stopped traffic so he wouldn't get hit but I COULDN'T CATCH HIM. I know he's so far away from home now because I followed him quite a ways. He has no collar and he is clean and well groomed, he's someone's baby and I couldn't catch him. As a matter of fact, I almost got him killed by calling out to him and him running from me out into the street. Eventually I had to leave him. Traffic was getting heavier and he was running from me faster and faster. I didn't want to make him run onto the highway... I'm so upset. My babies found their way onto this same highway- and several people said they tried to catch them but they ran... and were killed. OMG... I just have to pray that someone was able to get him before he met the same fate as my precious Crystal and Spike. God bless that baby. |
This makes me cry.... you were trying your best to rescue the little Chi, but he was so scared. There are so many of these babies getting loose and running in streets that is becoming a epedemic. you did your best , and I am very happy you did not get hurt . Most people would not even try like you did to help in busy traffic. Good job for trying to , and keeping yourself safe. |
Oh goodness...I know this was terribly upsetting for you. We'll just believe the little puppy found his way AWAY from the busy road and into someone's safe arms. |
i'm so sorry for the tears you poor thing. i sure know how you feel. praying right now someone got to him before any cars could. you did your best and you cannot risk your own life trying to save him when he won't come to you. good try and be proud you tried and try not to let it eat you up. |
omg.. this makes me cry too...... I am so sorry you lost your fur babies and had to go through this today. Have hope the little guy is safe now. |
Oh no, I am so sorry for the loss of your furkids and this chi. How sad, I hope he is okay..it is so scary for a dog to be loose and on the road. Terrible. :( |
I understand why you're so upset. I would be the same.:( |
That had my heart thumping fast just reading your post. I'm praying he made it somewhere safe. |
I truly hope someone else managed to catch him, but could you maybe go down at a less busy time and try and catch him maybe bring some chicken with you so you can get him close to you. |
I'm so sorry. We had the same thing happen a couple of months ago with a golden retriever (I think). We couldn't get him and every time we tried he'd run across a 6 lane highway, someone even ran over his front paw (they made no effort to stop/swerve- just hit him/her). Eventually, he ran back into a neighborhood and we stopped chasing him bc I didn't want him to go back near the main road. I never saw him again (and we looked) so I hope someone was able to get him. |

Oh no, this must have been horrible. :( I am so sorry for both you and the little ones. |
I have a question so I know if I ever encounter something like this. Can you call the police to handle something like this? So they can stop traffic and maybe contact animal control to get them? I don't know how feasible that would be though... :( |
Awww that's soo sad! God bless you for trying to save that little one's life! You did all you could, I hope he finds his way home safely. |
I would look around the shelters and craigs list to see if this dog is missing or lost and you can alert the owners of where you saw him... |
I am so sorry that you had to experience these same feelings over again. I will also pray that he/she became calm enough and allowed someone to get them to safety. Since the little one was obviously well cared for I will also pray that their owner and the puppy are reconnected. They must be afraid for their tiny one also. Bless you for trying so hard to protect this little baby. |
I know how bad you can feel. I was coming home on a 4 lane road and there was a chi running in the road. There were 3 kids on the side of the road in a yard, I think they were calling to him. I stopped the car and put on the flashers. Cars that were pulling out from a school stopped as well. As I was about to step out of the car and try chasing him, he ran back to the kids. I had to just sit there a minute and stop trembling. I had thought about getting him and taking to the house the kids sd he belonged to (if not kidnap him). I am a scaredy cat when confronting someone or being around strangers so this would be a BIG deal for me. |
This is so sad. I do hope though that you were being careful and did not endanger yourself! |
Thank you guys so much for the support. I've been back up and down that road twice- to and from work today- and there was no sign of him, thank God! I was so afraid that I'd see him in the road. I hope that he found his way to someone's house or either his owners drove around looking for him and found him since he was definitely well cared for, clean, neutered- I could tell. It makes me wonder if either one of the dogs I have now ever got out, if they'd be that skittish to run away from everyone. With Crystal, my black lab, I knew there was no way she'd ever go to anyone. She was always super nervous around other people. And I guess Spike just stuck by her side so when people called, if she didn't go he didn't either. The two I have now are super friendly and I think they'd be in danger of being stolen because they seem to go to anyone. :thumbdown I don't now which is worse. Too friendly, or super skittish.... Edited to add: There's nothing on Craigslist about a missing dog fitting that description. I may post a note on there about seeing him just in case. |
