Everyone has given you great advise, and I don't have anything to add at the moment. I just wanted to welcome Sharon and Lisa to YT and wish you both all the luck in your search for the perfect and healthy puppy. Please post pics of the pups if you get them. |
Welcome to YT, this is a great site. I have two yorkies, as you can see, Chloe and Lacey. I did a lot of research and still have two very different girls. One, cottany coat, larger, one delicate, smaller, with a silky coat. So, take all advice and add questions of your own. Prices range greatly too, so be sure you look at more than one breeder's puppies, plus adoption is a great way to see what the adult will look like and also give a yorkie a home who need one.er |
I would suggest that the way to pick a Yorkie is several months after you have decided that is the breed for you. Then, start your research and after you have a long list of questions that you ask the breeder (and the right answers) and the breeder should ask you. Picking a Yorkie puppy is not an easy thing and cannot be done on the first visit, very often. Do not feel pushed to take the puppy you have in mind. This is a 15 year commitment and cannot be made impulsively. I swear, I suggest a potential owner go thru a more thorough process picking a Yorkie than they do picking a hubby..Sorta kidding, but it is really a serious decision to make. You will never be happy with any other breed if you ever are owned by a Yorkie.. |

Oh and also a Very Hearty Welcome To Yorkie Talk. I advise taking your time; it took me a year to find the one I wanted. Good Luck. |
Thank you for the information about the docked tail. I am not sure how important it is to me to have the docked tail but I am going to check out a few more breeders just to make sure I am getting the puppy I want. |
Thanks everyone. Thank you everyone for the advice. :) I am going to look some more. It is hard to stay patient but I know it is a important decision and I want to make sure I find a healthy dog with a good disposition. I found another breeder who is expecting some puppies in the beginning of the year maybe I can check out the parents in the meantime. And someone from YT just gave me the name of their breeder to contact as well. So, I will continue looking. |
We decided to get him yesterday evening, my daughter and I both fell head over heels in love with him. I know we should have taken more time but I'm such a dog person that I fall for them so fast. I got a pic posted of him here. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22197 Sharon |

Congrats. He is adorable. That's all it takes is one look. |
If this puppy is in your town or close by, you could have the breeder meet you at your vet's office and do a vet check on him to make sure he is healthy. I would bring along your other family member and see what that one thinks of the puppy.... :D Most good breeders offer a contact to back their puppies health. Good luck. Almost forgot WELCOME TO YT !!! |
Hi, and welcome to YT. I wish you both good luck on your puppy searches. |
I think you've gotten a lot of great tips here . Check the house he's at.Check to see how he reacts around his other litter mates. If he's just laying there and the rest are running around ,find out why. Ask to carry him and let him loose around you . Don't be afraid to question anything if you have doubts. Ask if she has a health gaurantee for Liver Shunt also. Most health gaurantees are for 1 yr. Liver Shunt is something they can have even years later.Sorry we are bombarding you with so many things to lookout for. We just don't want anyone going through more heartache. Genie |
