How many of your dogs go for daily walks? Generally speaking, Jackson is walked 5 days a week. He gets a good one hour walk per day. I am a dogwalker and currently have 2 dogs that live in the same neighborhood that I bring Jackson with me to... so he gets 30 minutes around the large pond with the Rottweiler and 30 minutes around the neighborhood with the Black Lab. An hour walk really tires him out, plus I walk pretty fast-paced. Before I started walking these dogs, I would have to drive Jackson up the street to a neighborhood for 'proper' walks as we live on 3 acres. How often and for how long are your dogs walked? |
Weather permitting, Max and Teddy walk a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening. If the weather is perfect, they get a third mile in the afternoon. We walk fast too. This winter has been rough. We missed a few days because of high winds, and we often had to make due with one outing a day. On weekends, we drive somewhere to go for longer, special walks. Today we went to the "downtown" area of our little crossroads and walked around the school fields and courthouse. |
Wow, you do way better than me! I think I would do longer walks if I was in a neighborhood, where I could just walk out my door and have sidewalks, etc. |
In good weather, we usually do a couple of miles a day. But, this winter has been hard. I think they have only gotten out twice this week; but it's been in the 20's with wind chill making it even colder. |
Piper has a daily 3 mile walk weather permitting. This week we got 22 inches of snow and it's been really cold so she hasn't been walked. We have been playing lots of ball in the house. Piper never gets tired playing ball. |

Also Brit, my boys don't get the trips to the dog park or running free in the yard like Jackson does at your dad's house and your other relatives' homes. |
My husband walks the pack in the morning (about 20 mins) and we walk together when I get home from work also about 20 to 30 mins. I let them out in the back yard when I get up and before I go to bed. The walk is social as well as exercise - smelling the newspaper as my sister-in-law would say. I live in miami in a neighborhood that has side walks and lots of families-- so it is very nice. Of course I have to be sure to have "poop bags" |
I try to walk Thor every day, which translates to 4-7 days/week, depending. If he has another activity during the day, like doggy daycare, I walk him for 30 minutes, otherwise, we do an hour. We're pretty slow. I let him sniff and mark everything. |
Rio and Bullet go on daily walks, but only for about 20 minutes. If it's raining or too cold, then they just chase each other around the house for their cardio workout! |
I think everyone needs to take their environment into account and be flexible with exercise:D Personally I find the winter most challenging for my Beasties. Bitter cold and RAzz needs to be carried pretty soon, but my BRT';s think it's nirvana. But all have to have paws checked, ice balls removed etc after a good romp in the snow; even if that romp is in our backyard! Swimming in indoor pools we do, about once or twice a week. It is approx a 3 for 1 exercise. That being 10 minutes of swimming roughly equal to 30 minutes of walking. Playing inside the house, tricks and training also counts. Some can do modified agility exercises in the house. Stair climbing is good for both you and your dog:) Many ways to get exercise in the bad and cold days of winter |

In the winter, we walk a little over two miles everyday. If it's too cold, we don't go. There have been a few days lately, when it was way too cold to go. In the warmer weather, we usually go twice a day on weekends, because the days are longer. She goes out into her fenced yard a lot. |
Sophie Kate gets two 30 minute walks a day, per the Dr's orders for her CT (but no more because of her LP). I like taking her for walks, it is a great bonding time for her and I. |
Ivan and Iris get two walks every day for about 20-30 minutes each time. Plus Ivan gets two more potty breaks besides that. If it's raining, then the walks are just to do "business" and Iris usually won't go but we have pretty mild weather year round so we are lucky. On weekends, they both go on a third walk for about 20 minutes or so. We also try to get to the dog park once or twice a week but it is usually less than that. The park is instead of one of the walks when we go. They go on errends with us pretty often too and get to walk around at the mall or the pet store. Our two really need the exercise as well as the social interaction and mental stimulation of getting out of the house. |
We only go for walks in the spring summer and fall, Winter here is just to cold. Having 3 i have to switch up Usually its Austin Brownie then Kayko Then back to the Beg, Again. Austin we go to the park walk off leash usually for hour and a half. Brownie we walk to the park and sit by a tree for about a hour since he has a bad leg we just go out to exercise it alittle And to get fresh air. Kayko i walk to the beach until he cant walk anymore usually about 2 hours of walking then home. |
This topic makes me sad. Kaji use to stay slim with 5 walks a day. The morning walk was 20 mins to an hour, 3 were 20 mins, and the last one would be an hour or more, as we would walk to the park (3 blocks away) and we would run into a lot of people with dogs. It was like an impromptu dog park. They always had so much fun. I even lost a few lbs! I would love to have at least 2 walks a day. We would both love it! |
I feel put to shame in this post... Poor Harley doesn't get out too much, our weather is just crap. Last semester I got him out almost every day, if not every other, cause I took him on errands, but (we're in Canada) he hates snow. I'm lucky if I get him out once/twice a week. That being said at night he has free run of the apartment, and boy does he make use of it. and we take him up and down stairs to greet people at the front door. We've also started Life Skills classes, so he got to run around there. I've started encouraging the bf to take him out daily (cause I think the bf needs more exercise :D). I'm thinking of buying a small agility set to use inside. |
We live in a sub that has a great route to walk. Weather permitting, we walk 2 miles a day, but not when it is icy. Dinky walks almost the entire way; however, right now the streets are too slippery and too cold for him. We try when the streets are drier to walk him--when it is really cold, we carry him for most of the walk. We are hoping to move to a warmer climate after I retire. I am really looking forward to it! |
We try to do at least one 30 minute walk per day plus at least 45-1hr at the local dog park daily. |
I walk mine when its above 30 degrees outside every day around 3 blocks |
I try everyday, but it depends on the weather and what Rizzo is up for. I have to take a 15 minute drive to get to an area that I know we're both safe walking around at, and we're out walking for 1-2 hours, depending on what is going on, and how nice the weather is. Even if we walk, fast paced, for 2 hours Rizz is still energetic, lol. |
Tootsy and I walk 3 times a day ,snow rain and cold. we live in a apartment. She dose not like pee pads,I really like to move, somewhere in 50 or above, hate the winter. |
We try to go for a long walk every day. There are exceptions with the weather. I live off back roads that don't get scraped well during the winter. Levi and I walk between one and three miles a day. Usually pretty fast-paced, but I do let him sniff around quite a bit. He gets really excited when we reach the end of our apartment yard where our long walks start...and is so disappointed if we are only there for a potty break. He loves his walks and gets antsy without them. |
Wow! I'm impressed by you all. We don't walk much in the winter. None of us like the cold and Willow just about shivers herself to death plus her legs are so short, her belly is dragging in the snow. Their sweaters just don't seem to help that much. Gemy, where do you find indoor pools for dogs? Is it a commercial setting? We don't have anything around here like that. You all have shamed me so I guess the girls and I will cowboy up and try to do better. Thanks for the push. :D |

I take Daisy for a walk around the neighborhood everyday (weather permitting) for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. If the weather is bad....likes its been this weekend....we go shopping at Petsmart and Petco. Usually, "that" walk turns out to be rather costly. She got a new bed this weekend......she already has two others. |
It depends, in the summer they get walked on long walks daily, but during the school year they just get really short walks during the week and a long walk on the weekend. But since we had a delay this week and a three day weekend, were about to go on our fourth 4-mile walk in a week lol. |
Depends on the season, in the summer/spring/fall months we generally get out daily or every two days. But in the winter it just gets to cold. This past week has been -25 with wind chill. Both of my dogs have fattened up a little this winter but I try to keep them exercised by playing with them in the house. |
Must say I'm a wee bit proud of myself. Harley and I just walked I'd say about 3km or so, we went to the bank, and back and ran around in the park. It was theraputic, but I don't think either of us appreciated -10 cold though... |
