Scare of my life today
 

This afternoon I had been bathing the babies. Got all bathec but Dudley and decided to sit down and drink a coke. I had just finished Tina (toy schnauzer) and missed her. I called & called and Kayla kept going behind the recliner. I looked back to see a little white foot turned upside down. I got up and Tina was caught under this huge big man's recliner. I couldn't get her out and she began to scream. I tried lifting it and was afraid she was going to die right there. I ran and called my vet which is about 2 or 3 min. away. They sent one of the vet tech down to try to help. Neither one of us could get her out. She was still screaming and bleeding. I told him I was going to call 911 and he said yes to go ahead when all of a sudden he was able to free her. She was covered in blood and we had to wash her to try to see where she was hurt. Her mouth was cut and I was so afraid her jaw was broke but then she recognized Anthony and started to bark. He said she would not be able to bark if it was broke. I still can't drive after surgery so he said watch her and call if we have any problems. She lost a tooth and she bled some from a cut on her mouth just a little while ago. I am so glad and thank God my baby was okay. Please be careful of recliners. I would have not dreamed in a million years that would have happened.

Oh my gosh! How did she get under there?? I'm glad she's ok.

OH LORDY, I'm afraid someone would have to call 911 for me too. What a horrible thing to have happen. I too have one of those oversize recliners, and my Azrael got caught under it just last night. I'm so sorry you baby got hurt under there and I'll bet she won't go under it again. Big hugs to your baby from me.

I am so glad to hear that it worked out like it did.

We have a recliner and I am always telling my husband to wait and let me make sure it is all clear before he puts the leg rest down.

They are nice for us humans but dangerous to our furry babies.

I'm so glad you got her out. I've heard of similar nightmares with recliners. They either get under them - something Kacee did on a regular basis - when they are in the reclining position. Another spot they get is under the front part of the recliner and when people let the recliner down, they are caught under there. So, do be careful of recliners. They can get under some of them from the back. When the chairs are reclined, they can climb under the chair from the front.

Well, Tina is our little 13yr. old baby. She has dementia and can't see to well. She is about the same size as the yorkies. She had got back there and laid down and when I raised the foot support up it got her pinned. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was breathing so hard I could hardly talk. When I seen all that blood on the side of her little face I almost went to my knees.

Omg how scary!! I can't imagine. I think I wouldve passed out if I saw one of my babies hung in the recliner. Thats just awful, I am so glad she is okay and I pray she feels better really soon! Lots of yorkie and schnauzer kisses from Remy and Winston coming your way! :aimeeyork

How is she? Is she feeling ok?

She seems to be doing okay except for bleeding awhile ago. She may have just scratched that place on her mouth. We are still going to have her checked out. With the dementia there are times she doesn't know where she is and she just walks through the house and will sometimes stare at a wall. Breaks your heart. I can't stand to think of putting her down. She is eating good and as long as she is not suffering we will have her. To hear her cry and scream in pain like she did this afternoon like to have killed me.

I can imagine how it scared you to hear her screaming, but it's over and she's not too much the worse for it. It will take you awhile to get over that!

So glad to hear your baby is doing okay. Sometimes I think we end up worse then them. Another danger is a regular rocking chair. These wee ones are so fast and so small, things happen before you know it.

I am so glad that your terrible ordeal had a happy ending. My heart was pounding in fear as I read your post. Bless your heart and Tina's too! Thank goodness for your vet sending help! Hugs to you!

Here I am at 1:30 still up watching her. She got up to go get a drink and then she will just wonder through the house until she gets another drink and goes back to bed. I can see we are going to have to kennel her for now on when we are gone to the store or church or whatever because she can get into trouble real fast. I have always been pretty careful because Dudley is only 4lbs. But, never in a million years would I have dreamed one of the girls would go in the back of that chair. Also, don't forget sofas that recline. I don't think she would have ever done that if she had not had the health issues she has. Then, Kayla around 11:00 threw up 3 times. Have no idea what is wrong with her. THis has certainly been a day!!!!!!!!

yes recliners are terrible. my moms pug lost an eye because she was caught under the recliner.

also watch for that white or black matting stuff under furniture and box springs it can come loose get holes in it and strangle tiny animals like small dogs cats and bunnies

How horribly scary for you and Tina.....bless your hearts. Thankfully it sounds like she will be okay. I have to comment on what a great vet you have to allow that tech to come and help you....kudos to them!!!

I've read other recliner horror stories on YT and am always afraid of this happening here. If I had my way the recliner would be out the door but it's the one place my hard working hubby gets to relax....so, we try to be extremely careful.

My pups' breeder included a warning about recliners in the packet of info she sent home with us. I had heard many stories about cats and recliners, but I never would have thought of a small dog getting into one. Thankfully, we don't have a recliner in the house.

This is a good reminder to everyone to exercise caution.

ditto I'm also glad we don't have a recliner. I used to have one but I never had a problem with my cats getting under it but now with small dogs I would never get one again. I do have a recliner sofa but so far we haven't had a problem. I stuff old pillows all around it so the cats and dogs can't get underneath and the back is against a wall so they can't get under that way. In any case I'm glad your baby is doing okay.

Me too! DH puts the foot rest down so fast sometimes it terrifies me to imagine one of the lttle ones under there!

Tina, I am so glad your little one is going to be OK. I hope your heart rate has returned to normal by now! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. There are so many ways our babies can get hurt it helps to be informed by experiences of our members.

Thank you for sharing. We have two recliners in the basement. Sometimes, if I am distracted for one minute, Dinky will "disappear" like that. I can imagine how hard it was to hear her cry and scream. You acted so swiftly and rationally!
P.s. my daughter was just in Dallas for an interview. I used to live there years and years ago, and I still missed it. great food and great people!

We had an awful scare with Wolfie when he was tiny too! It absolutely steals the breath from your chest when you can see them but cannot get them out. So glad she is ok. We are so careful now, the only time the recliner is used is if he is in my lap!

Tina seems to being doing okay today. We are soooooo tired from staying up late and watching her. It scared me when she bled again but so far so good. I'm sure the little thing is so sore. Her mouth has to be with than iron bar thing across her. I know with Tina this would have never happened if she did not have dementia. Although I certainly agree these chairs and sofas are so dangerous. Dudley goes in the front part to hide from Kayla when she wants one of his toys. That is what I always watched for, not the back. I hope this really helps others to be more alert of where they are. I know we can't watch them constantly but I hope and pray I NEVER have to go through that again. Yes, I do have a wonderful vet. She has seen my babies for years and the tech said she was so concerned. She was just telling him to go, go, go now fast. I appreciate them all so much. My back is killing me today from lifting on that chair. I had 2 knee replacements at once (don't ever do both) and back surgery the year before. This incident didn't help things. lol!!!!!

OMG one of my fears when I had one of those. Glad to hear your baby is doing better.

My recliners are on end of sofa and are electric, I don't close it until I see both of my babies.

What a wonderful vet you have! Thank goodness everything seemed to have worked out. Sure hope you did not hurt yourself lifting that chair.

Just saw this, bless your heart...that had to terrify you both. You did wonderful at keeping it together enough to get the help you needed to save your baby. It is fine to fall apart afterwards...you so deserve it. It's wonderful that is is doing well and on the road to healing. Give Tina lots of hugs from me & Zhoie!

I hope your back and knees will be ok. That's so sad. I'm glad your little one is doing ok, but I agree, she has to be sore.
