Lowest temperature you let your Yorkie(s) go outside? I let Onyx go potty outside as long as it's above the 30's. I have potty pads inside my apartment, and he used to use them, but recently he has preferred to go outside, and will wait until I take him out. I live most of the year in North Florida, but am currently visiting relatives in Georgia so it's been quite cold for him. |
Mine go on potty pads most of the time regardless of temperature. I don't really have a temperature that I dont let them go out- once I need a sweater, I figure they need a sweater- once I need a winter coat, I assume they need a coat. If I can't stand to be outside more than a few seconds- then the same for them. They never, ever get put outside without me, no matter the temperature, anyway. So if its really cold, we just run in and out FAST! :animal-pa |
We go out even in the teens. It depends if the wind is blowing hard or not though. They get used to the climate they live in. |

Potty pads for us ~ most of the time. Bailee doesn't like sweaters and doesn't like the cold. So, he has been in the house for several weeks ~ except for rides in a warm car. :) |
Live in Chicago and 30 is considered a warm day! Carlo and Maxine like to lay out in the sun on those days. We just bundle her up in a sweater and Coat, she goes out with one of us, and never had a problem in almost 14 years. They are resilant little dogs. Just got to make sure her paws do not freeze in place. In the high 20's now with plenty of snow and Ice on the ground! Lovely day! Guess it could be worse, could be living in Canada or Greenland! Any YT members in Iceland, Greenland or Finland? |
I have a customer in Alaska who won't go outside when it's colder than -30:eek: |
Levi hates potty pads, so we go outside even when it is COLD. He will use the pads in an emergency if he is alone at my house, but if I am there he whines and whines by the door to go potty. If it is super cold, I just bundle him up in a sweater and a coat and out we go. The cold seems to bother me much more than it bothers him! It's been in the low 30s and he still wants to run and play outside. |

Oh! Late last night she wanted out. I took her out in the garage and told her to go on her pads. She looked disappointed and slowly walked around to them.:) |

Same here, he perks up when he hears "potty time" "puppy walk", and will take his time sniffing every patch of grass or tree before he decides which one to pee on. |
I have doggie doors, they go out in blizzards. They just pee fast. :D However they do have more accidents in the house when it is raining or really cold. |

We live in Georgia and do get some cold days and even snow and ice. Sophie Kate LOVES snow, she barrels through it head first and will jump in the air. I always put a coat or sweater on her when the sun goes down and during day if needed. My rule is if I have a coat on so does she. |
1 Attachment(s) Darwin and Mabel always go outside and so far the coldest it's been is about -11 celcius (12 fahrenheit). Our walks are really short - we get their business done and then we're back inside. Darwin doesn't mind the cold but Mabel is so much smaller I worry about her. It's funny this subject came up; we got a visit from the Humane Society a couple days ago - it was -3 celcius (26 fahrenheit), no wind and sunny - it was beautiful. Our 3/4 Great pyrenees (125 pounds) was outside and our mayor complained because she thought he was shivering and needed her help! Zain has never shivered a day in his life. I call him hairy, hot and happy. We can even see his breath inside our home, he gets so hot. It was completely ridiculous, even the humane society apologized for coming to our home. Caught her in a lie as she told the humane society that Zain's water dish was frozen over - he has a working heated water dish and a dog house with a wind break - ok, I'll shut up - it was just so completely laughable. Can you tell we have history with our mayor?? Got to love small towns!:D |
Jackson goes outside no matter how cold, although we don't get the EXTREME temps like some places do, but it still can get pretty darn cold with the wind chill. We had so much snow last year and a few blizzards too, and we still went out, though it was definitely a pain in the 4ft snow. We just made it work. I did use the outdoor screened in porch as a potty place during the blizzard (it was covered in one foot of snow itself). |
we go out in all weather, but we did buy a potty patch to try on the back deck when the snow gets deep or it's raining cats and yorkies outside. |
Mine go outside no matter how cold... but they just go quicker! I think they get used to the climate they live in and you should not have to worry as long as they are only outside to go to the bathroom quickly and then come back in. |
My lil one wants to go out also and after she does what she has to do she wants to run and i tell she she should have been running all summer and not waited till now to started to run weather here in south carolina is looking like a white christmas for us first one sincr 1963 my girls do not go out without me or hubby |
Gatsby was potty trained in February, so he does not mind the cold. I will walk him around 25 degrees but any colder then that and I cant breath outside so he has to use the pads unless the kids take him out but they stop doing that around 35 degrees Gatsby hates the heat if it is hotter then 75 degrees out he will not walk even a single step off the front walk even in shoes for his feet he will not walk |

It's so much more fun to go outside. |
-4F and -20C here right now and ours goes outside. He makes it quick but he still goes out. Only takes 30 sec to a min before his feet start to freeze. Canadian dogs have to be tough. |
Last winter, Max and I went out for our morning 1-mile walks even when the temps dipped a little below 20 degrees. This winter, we have missed quite a few walks because we have had wind gusting 20-40 mph many days. Max is pretty hardy, but poor Teddy doesn't have the same body heat. I drag him back inside when I see him shivering too much. |
3 Attachment(s) All three of mine love the snow. They will go out no matter how cold and the deeper the snow the better. It does get very cold here in the winter and there are days they will just run out and right back inside. But right after the snow they are leaping and sticking their head in the mounds of snow. Now let's not talk about rain.......nope they will all look at me like I've lost my mind to even suggest to potty outside. Oh wait, Bogey will go out no matter what it's doing. He's my good boy and doesn't do anything naughty inside the house. |

I think it is in the 30's right now, which is super cold for Louisiana. I think the colder it gets, the more mine LOVE to go outside, and the longer they take! It seems as if one is always standing by the back door wanting out. We have a doggie door cut in our screen door, so we open the door and wait for them to potty and let them back in before closing the main door. Sometimes Cooper fakes having to potty so he can run a lap around the perimeter of the yard, barking his head off the whole time...when he comes in, he jumps in my lap, and he feels like a chunk of ice. I think my babies are really Alaskan Malamutes :p |
