breezeaway something from your website caught my attention here: from Joan's book you posted that: "It is not unusual to find small white marks on one or more toes or a fine white line in the lower fore jaw. These will not be visible as an adult. A large amount of white marks on the chest, paws, jaws, or skull, places a yorkie into a tri-color classification and it is very wise to guard against this possibility. Yorkshire terrier puppies can be born of colors that automatically deprive them of the necessary qualities to become the proper colors of the breed. They can be born all black: all tan: tan with black points; tri-color: black, white, and tan; all blue; bluish grey with tan points; and so remain or change to another shade of their newly born colors. These mismarked Yorkie puppies are not the result of the mis-alliances or throwbacks but are rather the net product of incorrectly inherited genes which have failed to activate the pigment glandular system to providing what they require to be in accord with the Yorkshire terrier standard. Puppies incorrectly colored or marked should not be sold as rare, they should not be registered as Yorkshire terriers, but should simply be found a loving home If one cannot bring oneself to having them put down." This makes me understand that selling partis as a rare genetic trait or trying to call them a yorkie is NOT acceptable to this woman who is so highly respected it seems to me. |

Biewers: I thought this-if Biewers were 'controlled' then when getting one of them should they not have a specific value that represents their 'control' or is everyone talking pet prices here, which would imply to me still being controlled with spay/neuter? Hmmmm historically I think that didn't happen though. Partis: Same for Parti's, they were not to be used for breeding just pets right-but later bred to encourage the genes dominance then people pay for "rare" pets no? Too bad they are not the rarity they once were to warrant the high prices? Albinos: I'm just sayin' I wonder how much one of those Albino Yorkies would go for anyone every seen one or the price on it-would it be petted out (meaning should be spay/neuter), sold as a rare genetic anomaly representative (highly priced), or used by someone to create solid white Yorkies (bred)? Oh boy I'm not trying to throw this thread off course, so please food for thought to everyone on that comment (I just couldn't share it with Elvie-roo alone, my Parti Yorkie). |

Would love to see advancements in the feild of Canine genetics, weather it be genetic marker tracking, DNA, breed identification, and many more useful this areas...even ending the great debates over whom is and isn't a Yorkie, their origin, mysteries surrounding white coloration, tricolor etc (exclusion of color mutations-they are a separate genetic issue that is well know and research). I wouldn't say just because some research was old it was not useful-personally-but I wouldn't bank it either-that seems like common sense to me. |

It is not an easy task, but I am trying! :) Hard to teach this old dog new tricks |
This is a very interesting thread. I know zero to nothing about breeding, showing, etc. So here is a question that may seem really dumb. I've looked at images of Biewers and Parti's and to my undiscerning eye, I see no difference. So what is it? |

I have been looking for a book to have to read at lunch time. I often eat by myself, and a book is excellent company. (says the nerd :p) |
