Help with yorkie type of brush Hi, I'm new here, I just got a 2.5 months old yorkie named chessy. As this is my first dog, I'm wondering what type of brush should I use to brush her. A slicker, bristle or pin brush?? (confusing me). Can I just just one brush only?, I'm planning to keep chessy hair as puppy cut, what type of brush used to maintain a puppy cut yorkie?? Don't use a slicker brush, it's for a dog with a thick double coat, and it's meant to pull dead hair out. A bristle brush is nice as a finishing type of brush, after you get all tangles out, and it's meant to distribute oil throughout the coat, this is more important if you dog has long hair. A pin brush is best for yorkies and you want a brush that doesn't scrape the skin. I like it because the tips could never scratch the skin, and it gets out tangles easily. Nancy....I love the CC wooden pin brushes. I found out about them a couple of years ago, and couldn't do without it now. I did find another wooden pin brush that was a little less expensive than the CC brush. It is a human hair brush but is just as good quality as CC, and looks exactly the same except the handles are different colors. OP.....you need a pin brush definitely...one without any ball tips on the ends of the pins. The ball tips can damage yorkie coats. |

I believe this is the same brush I have. It's hard to tell from the picture, the pins on the linked brush appear a little darker than mine actually are, but the description fits exactly. I love it and it's made of olivewood, whereas my CC brush handle is plastic.  Amazon.com: Ambassador Hairbrush, Olivewood Mini,... Debra, if your kids have coats that are any longer than a puppy cut, you would love the wooden pin brush. Honestly, it doesn't pull their hair like metal pin brushes can do. Little tangles that used to "smart" brushing out, now my dogs act like they never even feel a tug. OP....I've lost my manners....welcome to YT!:) |

This is for his tail and face/mustache most of all.... so I really don't wanna spend big bucks for a brush for him, since in general his hair is pretty low maintenance. |
Oops...I was wrong, Nancy, this is the brush I have. The one above is a "mini" size and mine is this small size. It has gone up in price since I bought mine, I think then it was around $20. I use this brush from PetEdge: PetEdge: #1 All Systems Pin Brush Small The pins actually roll so it's gentler on the dog. Shadow has a cottony coat so she tangles easily. Especially since she like to roll around and rub her face into the carpet. |
