OH No you guys arent guilting me into anything. I love what you guys are saying, I am taking everything in. I am torn right now. I think I should try it, then if it doesnt work I can tell her and myself that I tried! I cant say anything if I dont, I will never know, Pnut could LOVE to have a sister, plus they have always got along. She is a lot like Pnut, really mellow, relaxed and so loving! I hope she will get attached to DH. I hear the females tend to get attached to the male human in the house. That way I can have pnut and DH can have Dahaliah. I just dont want to let my friend down either, I am the only person she trusts with her baby. That means a lot to me. I think if I don't try it I will always think "what if" and that alone will drive me crazy hahah!! |
If your heart isn't really in it, than for the sake of the dog you need to say no. But if it's something that you would like to do, then maybe you can do it with the very clear understanding that if it doesn't work out she takes the dog back. |

I have 2 plus a doxie. It's harder in some ways, but easier in others. They all play together, though each of them does get their "mommy and me" time. It's definitely not easy to pack up and go with more than one. But for me, the benefits out weigh the drawbacks. |

Do you still take them places? Pnut is so use to going places with me, family house, friends houses, shopping (where I can take him) I still would want to take both of them esp more if its family and friends houses. Does any of the furbabies get jealous? Is any of your furbabies sensitive to having your attention only? |
I take Rhett and Scarlett, but not Sam because he HATES the car. There were some jealousy issues at first, especially between Rhett and Sam. But they growled and postured and wrestled until they worked it out. Now they are good buddies. But I won't lie, the first couple of weeks had me worried that I had made a huge mistake. The fact that Pnut and Dahaliah have already spent a good amount of time together is a good thing. For awhile, I did have jealousy issues when I would pet Rhett in "Sam's spot", so I decided to save that chair for Sam only and Rhett and I took over another spot. Now, I generally have one dog on either side of me on the couch and another sleeping on my foot. |
YOu have to do what is best for your family. Take your friend's suggestion as a compliment. If you think that this one would not fit in at this time, just kindly let her down and say no, but thank you for thinking of me. |

I also would suggest if you are considering another dog, to take her on a trial basis to try it out. And make sure you tell your friend, you will take her dog on a trial basis and if it does not work out, she would need to take back her dog and find another home. This has to be difficult. Only you know, if you can handle having two dogs. I know all about that! LOL!!!! This year in January we got our pomeranian as a young puppy and in April we got our sweet little yorkie, "Princess" as a young puppy. I actually found it to be easier to have 2 puppies. I was potty training both. What ever you decide, is what you feel is best for you, not anyone else. |
Like the others have said if you feel up to it and can do a trial that would be great. I took in Nikki a 15-16 year old rescue male from an elderly friend last February after she went in to a nursing home. I was not looking to bring in a 4th dog, let alone a very elderly male to my 3 females. It was an adjustment at first for me and my girls. Nikki felt right at home from day one. I couldn't let him go back in to rescue at his age. It is more work and more money but it is worth it. My friend (RIP) felt so much better knowing he was with me. Good luck in your decision, you have to do what is right for you. |

I had my schnauzer first a female, had her for about six years and then I got Levi my first yorkie. My schnauzer lived to be 13 before I had to put her to sleep. I went three years with one dog(Levi) and decided I needed another "female" in the house and got Lily another yorkie, about 6 months ago from a fellow YT er. I think in my opinion, Levi is happier having a playmate. It takes the pressure off of me, they play together, snuggle together etc. It took Levi about three days to totally fall in love with Lily. They are now inseparable. They both love everyone in the house as ..my two older boys and my husband..but have fun with each other as well. We spend hours just watching them interact with each other, they are hilarious at times. Just my two cents...I have had both options and I prefer the two dogs. I don't think two is really any more work than one dog. Same amount of responsibility..just my opinion. |
