I think the easiest way is to take her into the vet. Can they detect a UTI without a pee sample? or how do they detect it when you take them into the vets?

No- they need a urine sample- they will just probably use a needle and get the sample themselves- its probably the best anyway because then they know the sample is sterile.

Thats what I thought the first time they said they were doing this But Chloe had it done a number of times when we were trying to figure out what was wrong with her and she didn't make much of a fuss.

I hope its not painful.
I think making an appointment for her to actually see the vet is a much better option then me trying to get a sample from her, I think that would be really difficult and take a lot longer.
And if UTIs are really painful for them I would rather have her checked out ASAP. Can they tell you there and then if they have an infection or does the sample have to be sent away to be tested? sorry im new to all of this.

I think it depends on whether your vet has an in house lab or not- my vet has always been able to tell me that same day.

I remember they used to catch it in a tray under the crate at the vet. I don't know how it's done these days. Oh! For bigger dogs, they would walk around with a huge metal ladle behind them outside!

Hmm.. the branch I usually go to is fairly new and the building is very old fashioned so I doubt they have a lab there just yet.
They have a larger branch near by which probably has a lab. I will find out more tomorrow when I call.
How do they treat a UTI? antibiotics?
