My JPop turned 7 years old last month. When I got him at 6 wks (yeah, I know, didn't know any better then), I bought him a squirrel. To this day, it's still his favorite! He humps it almost daily , has to sleep with it, and will fight the other babies if they even look like they want to play with it.:p It has no squeaker left, no tail, thread bearing and been washed too many times to count. Would I throw it away....never! We've had to get up at night to "squirrel hunt" if I forget to get it at bedtime.:D He would be devistated if I threw it away! Let your baby keep his fav toy.:) |
Muffin had "doggie" all of her 14 years. "Doggie" was three times bigger than Muffin when I gave it to her on her first day at home. He had shrunk and was threadbare with no eyes, nose, or mouth. He had been laundered and stitched back together more times than I could ever imagine. In fact, we had to sneak him away to wash him or she would sit in the laundry and cry for him. She wagged him around everywhere she went. If she went to look out the windows from a couch, then she usually took him up with her. "Doggie" went to Rainbow Bridge with Muffin, because I didn't want her to ever be without him. |

I agree, you should keep it. Esp if he still plays with it, humps it.. whatever  Peanut has a little stuffed bone he has had since he was a young pup, he loves that thing! I don't think I could ever throw it away, if it came down to it and there was a hole in it I would fix it. He LOVES that toy. I have to sneak around when I wash it bc if he sees me grab me and throw it in the wash he will pace around the house until I give it back to him! :D I think its also something that we hold on to, that was his first toy... |
I agree with everyone, keep it. It still looks really good. :) Tila has a favorite stuffed bone. Gosh she loves it, she sleeps with it. She freaks out if she can't find it. I do have a replacement for just in case and she has her frog John which she loves. I scared the lady at the pet and feed store last week, because I was so scared I'd never find a another frog like him. There it was on the counter, I screamed and told her I need that frog. lol. So I bought him as a replacement for just in case. Her bone and John are quite raggedy too. |
Do you have a bra bag? Ya know the ones you use to wash your "unders" in the washing machine? Make sure you use hypoallergenic unscented laundry soap if not just use Dawn dish soap (plain) in the washer! I throw the toys in the "bra bag" to ensure their safety and my washers, and the test is if your dog still loves it after it being washed-well eventually it will biodegrade right? If it gets ignored after a couple days well...bye bye. |
Little boy dogs should not be allowed to hump stuffed toys. it is dangerous. they can get a hair wrapped around their penis casing the circulation to be restricted. they can become raw and infected. I suggest that you remove the toy, and correct his behavior just like you would any other unwanted behavior. I have had dogs all my life and have never had one that needed to hump toys, so it is not a needed activity. They can live perfectly happy, lives without it. You would not allow them to do other activities that could cause injury, so why let them do this, knowing there are some very serious health risks. |
My little one has a little blanket 8x8 inches stuffed with squeakers. It's the toy that I bought the day we brought her home. Now she is almost 2 years old and she still carries it around. Off course it doesn't squeak ay more but she loves it and she brings it to the couch when she want to take a nap. I would never through it away cause she loves it and makes her relax. We even started calling her "Charlie Brown" when we see her carrying her blanket:D |
