Should I trash Bailey's favorite toy? 1 Attachment(s) I'm wondering if any one has had this situation, the toy in the photo has been with Bailey since I brought him home at 9.5 weeks, He is now 20 months old. Bailey loves this toy to pieces, it is the only thing he humps  The problem is it's very icky now, raggedy, thread bare and blah:tongue019 It's been washed so many times, I've bought replacements, one in the same color and another in a different color and Bailey cannot be bothered with the new ones. I've taken away his fave toy and he cries and whines until I give it back, I want to trash the toy so bad, but I feel guilty! Have you all throw out your fur kids favorite toys, and if so, did they forget about them once they were gone? |
Very good question. I would love to hear the answers. Mine don't have that special toy. They like all of them. My neighbor's yorkie cries when mommy washes hers. She even takes it to bed. |
rub the new toys to the old one and stick all three in a ziplock bag so that the sent will spread if that does not work then tie them all up in pillow case and toss them in the dryer(don't wash them first) and let them tumble for a a few min that should spread the scent and he will play with the new toys and don't throw away his favorite toy keep it in a safe place that way years down the road you can take it out of a box and smile |
I will never throw away Callies favorite and she would probably actually sit and cry for it if I did and probably look for it constantly but I would just feel way to bad about it too. Hers doesn't even squeak anymore but she still totes it around and everything. If my mom had thrown away my stuffed animal I had sense I was a baby because it was ratty I would be sad (I still have it and she still has her childhood stuffed animal). I dont think you should throw it away. |
Sandy's favourite toy is 'Sheepie'... I bought that for him when he's 15 weeks old. Now he's 16 months old and we have bought him other toys but Sheepie is the only thing he brings with him when he wants us to play with him. And it's the only thing he humps too  |

I feel bad for even thinking of throwing it out now, lol..I'm going to keep it.. but will try the suggestion above as well :p |
I have had to throw away some of Armani's favorite toys- he is very destructive and will sometimes start EATING toys- like actually swallowing pieces which is obviously dangerous. He looks for a few seconds and then honestly finds something new and is over it. I keep a huge toy box of brand new toys and whenever an old toy needs to be thrown away they get something from the "new toy box". As long as something is not dangerous to him I let him keep it as long as possible. I try to only buy toys he can't be destructive with- but all the toys that are made to be super durable he wants nothing to do with. |
I wouldn't throw away his favorite toy unless it becomes dangerous; like he is ripping it apart or something. |

I agree unless there is stuffing hanging out or something I wouldnt throw it away. :) |
That one looks like it still has lots of life left in it ;) I have a couple of raggedy ones I don't want to even take a pic of. But I am like you, reluctant to throw away one they really like. Ben loves to take his toys outside. It is like he is afraid to go out the door without a toy in his mouth. So, his really take a beating and need extra laundry. He usually makes the choice for me. He will have a toy for months - years and then suddenly one day he shreds it to pieces. Then finally, I can throw it away. |
Awww ....I agree Darlene....that looks like it's still good for awhile yet!!Don't get rid of it yet....Lucky has a little green one like it lol! Although probally doesn't like his as much as Bailey with his hahaha. I vote to keep it!!:) |
I agree with everyone else... Don't throw it away... It looks like it has lots of life left! |
Doodlebug has one toy that is his very favorite. He's normally super destructive when it comes to anything with stuffing~he love to kill it, pull out off the stuffing and leave a mess. But he has one that I call his baby. It's really small and he's had it since he was a baby. He'll carry it around in his mouth, whine and cry while trying to hide it in the couch cushions. He's going to be 3 yrs old in April and it is getting pretty icky but I have no plans of tossing it. But if he did start to pull out the stuffing I would be forced to toss it into the trash. :( |
My JPop turned 7 years old last month. When I got him at 6 wks (yeah, I know, didn't know any better then), I bought him a squirrel. To this day, it's still his favorite! He humps it almost daily , has to sleep with it, and will fight the other babies if they even look like they want to play with it.:p It has no squeaker left, no tail, thread bearing and been washed too many times to count. Would I throw it away....never! We've had to get up at night to "squirrel hunt" if I forget to get it at bedtime.:D He would be devistated if I threw it away! Let your baby keep his fav toy.:) |
Muffin had "doggie" all of her 14 years. "Doggie" was three times bigger than Muffin when I gave it to her on her first day at home. He had shrunk and was threadbare with no eyes, nose, or mouth. He had been laundered and stitched back together more times than I could ever imagine. In fact, we had to sneak him away to wash him or she would sit in the laundry and cry for him. She wagged him around everywhere she went. If she went to look out the windows from a couch, then she usually took him up with her. "Doggie" went to Rainbow Bridge with Muffin, because I didn't want her to ever be without him. |

I agree, you should keep it. Esp if he still plays with it, humps it.. whatever  Peanut has a little stuffed bone he has had since he was a young pup, he loves that thing! I don't think I could ever throw it away, if it came down to it and there was a hole in it I would fix it. He LOVES that toy. I have to sneak around when I wash it bc if he sees me grab me and throw it in the wash he will pace around the house until I give it back to him! :D I think its also something that we hold on to, that was his first toy... |
I agree with everyone, keep it. It still looks really good. :) Tila has a favorite stuffed bone. Gosh she loves it, she sleeps with it. She freaks out if she can't find it. I do have a replacement for just in case and she has her frog John which she loves. I scared the lady at the pet and feed store last week, because I was so scared I'd never find a another frog like him. There it was on the counter, I screamed and told her I need that frog. lol. So I bought him as a replacement for just in case. Her bone and John are quite raggedy too. |
Do you have a bra bag? Ya know the ones you use to wash your "unders" in the washing machine? Make sure you use hypoallergenic unscented laundry soap if not just use Dawn dish soap (plain) in the washer! I throw the toys in the "bra bag" to ensure their safety and my washers, and the test is if your dog still loves it after it being washed-well eventually it will biodegrade right? If it gets ignored after a couple days well...bye bye. |
Little boy dogs should not be allowed to hump stuffed toys. it is dangerous. they can get a hair wrapped around their penis casing the circulation to be restricted. they can become raw and infected. I suggest that you remove the toy, and correct his behavior just like you would any other unwanted behavior. I have had dogs all my life and have never had one that needed to hump toys, so it is not a needed activity. They can live perfectly happy, lives without it. You would not allow them to do other activities that could cause injury, so why let them do this, knowing there are some very serious health risks. |
My little one has a little blanket 8x8 inches stuffed with squeakers. It's the toy that I bought the day we brought her home. Now she is almost 2 years old and she still carries it around. Off course it doesn't squeak ay more but she loves it and she brings it to the couch when she want to take a nap. I would never through it away cause she loves it and makes her relax. We even started calling her "Charlie Brown" when we see her carrying her blanket:D |
