Here is another twist. I checked prices to fly with Copper a couple of months ago, it would have required us changing airlines on the way to the destination...so, if you have a layover and have to change airlines, the way I understand it is that you have to pay the new airline $100 also. Instead of it costing $100 one way, it would be $200 and $400 for the round trip. My ticket wasn't even going to be that much. I decided the trip wasn't worth it. :cool:
I was shocked at the $168 price too unbelievably cheap! But $200-$400 to carry your dog and put them on your lap or on the floor! That's outrageous!

Southwest doesn't charge for the first 2 checked bags. Pet Fee is $75.00 each way.

TSA is now checking everything. And if caught it is a federal offense. I've witnessed people that have attempted to do this not be able to board a flight.

Not only is TSA monitoring at the first and second check points, but the attendants that take your tickets as you board. It's getting pretty stiff now.

They do go through everything. I had to put Kaji's carrier through the scanner and Kaji had to go with me through the xray machine completely naked. I don't know how it would work now with the body scanners, but last year they were pretty thorough. The TSA agent last year scared me. She said she would have to confiscate my dog with a straight face. Then she said because he was so darn cute! :p

Wow so sorry to hear about these prices! Luckily we dont fly anywhere, but at least you will have your best buddy with you!

Do you know if taking on a pet counts as your carryon with SW?

I would definely, take an oversized purse and at the prices being mentioned, DH would probably take up carrying a purse temporarily too;)

Yes, It does. I do take an oversized purse, with essentials for me and my dog. Put my money and ID in my pocket, because they will request that the oversized purse be stowed overhead.

Yup, $200 each way on lufthansa to fly transatlantic. My dog weighs 3.5 pounds, on what planet does that price make any sense at all?? But yet I still pay it, to and from, twice a year. I did the math and it costs about $40 a day for in home pet care in Berlin where I live, and if I go to my parents for more than 10 days, the cost of the plane is cheaper!

Oh but on lufthansa, the dog and bag counts as excess baggage, so you still get a carry on and a personal item.
