What kind of Car seat? I'm trying to find a car seat for Barney and Daisy. I'm not sure what kind to get. I'd like one they can lay down in and I'd like it to be black to match my car. I was looking at the Solvit and Snoozer products. Does anyone have a care seat that they really like? Barney and Daisy are 9.5 lbs and 7.8 lbs. Also has anyone had a carsick dog use one of these and if so, did things improve? Thanks! |
I think any car seat would improve carsickness because they lift them up so they can see out the window and then they dont normally get sick anymore. my 16 year old sister made Gatsby a car seat out of a milk carton, (the plastic box kind not the kind the milk comes in) and it helped him with his carsickness i paid $0 for it and the vet said it is safer then some of the car-seats he has heard about because it is hard so it wont collapse or bend if pressure is applied. |
Cathy, I've had several different car seats and prefer the types like the snoozer or pet gear over the solvit type. The snoozer and pet gear seats are strapped in with the seat belt, utilizing the car's own seat surface for stability. The solvit types are just kind of hanging in the air strapped in around the back portion of the car's seat and head rest. I didn't feel as though my kids were as secure in the solvit type as I do in the pet gear or snoozer types. Also, my dogs are small and in the solvit type seats they tend to sink down inside the bed area, and can't see as well as on the little raised bed area of the snoozer and pet gear types. I thought my pet gear seat was a medium but after recently ordering a medium off the CSN stores clearance area and getting it home, I now think my other is a large size (bought on Overstock.com). The larger size is plenty big enough for Ruby and Reno, 3 and 4-1/2lbs. I bought the new one because now we normally travel with three:) Both seats fit just fine in our smaller size SUV's back seat. I wanted to add, having ours ride in car seats does seem to help with car sickness. Also, just now saw the size of your kids....maybe two small size pet gear or snoozer type seats would work better? |

So I thought I'd start with one to try because Barney and Daisy love to look out the window, even on long car rides. Then I could try it on Teddy. They have these on amazon in small, medium and large and then they have the Snoozer 1 and Snoozer 2. I was going to buy thru YHR's link on amazon so they could get credit. What size do you think is best? Would a large one be big enough for two of them or should I go with individual ones? |

We love this car seat. It took a while to train Cooper to sit nicely in it. We do have to attach him very tightly so he doesn't pull forward. Other than that I definitely recommend it. If you have room for 2, then get 2. I have a mustang and one in each seat....it pretty much fills the back of the car. |
After looking I realized Pet Gear offers other types besides the booster style seat and wanted you to know this is the seat I've got. Pet Gear Black Booster Car Seat at PETCO And, here is some interesting information on sizing with the Snoozer seat. Pet Products Size Guide - Snoozer Pet Products When dh gets home later (he drove the SUV today) I'll measure the other seat but am certain it's got to be a large and what I just ordered I know is the medium (and would be crowded with Ruby and Reno). The large is listed as big enough for a 25lb dog and most likely that would work, but might be a bit crowded for two dogs. |

My car has all black interiors and the car seat is black and barely visible. When I drive down the street, the dogs look like they are magically suspended in the back seat. I have had people ask me how I keep them back there. :p ETA: the car seat made all the difference in teaching Max to enjoy the car. |
I bought the med. pet gear for Micah last year when i was taking him back & forth to UT, he loves it although he is very small 3.3 lbs there is still room for another to ride with him. it has stayed really nice it is the dark grey color :) |
Cathy, I have a couple of the snoozer carseats and highly recommend them. Hot Rod never really got carsick except 2x when he was in his crate on the seat. Once he sat up in the snoozer, he was and has been good to go. Maggie got sick pretty much the whole first year we had her. She figured out that if she went to sleep she would be okay. And then one day, she stood on the side of it and looked out the window and it was like a light bulb turned on. She loves looking out the window and has not gotten carsick/boatsick since. Yay! |
I use the PET GEAR I GO Traveler. It is expensive but well built and when you put it in your seat belt correctly, it significantly increases car safety for your pet. I have 6 yorkies and have 3 travelers going across my back seat. I put 2 in each when I have too. Normally, I only take 1 or 2 yorkies with me and put one on each side. Car sickness sometimes just goes away but what I have found is air blowing on them helps. You can put something under the traveler to give a little more height but be careful because height also dimishes safety. Long trips sometimes finally cure car sickness. Short trips don't seem to with yorkies that get motion sickness easily. I have found that those are even sick in a stroller. Good Luck. |
4 Attachment(s) I have the Snoozer and I, and Jackson, love it! It took about a week to get him accustomed to sitting in it, but now he voluntarily goes and sits in it, even before I buckle him in. He's 15lbs and has the medium. His little girlfriend Nala, who is around 6lbs, fits in it perfect with him. |

3 Attachment(s) We have the Snoozer My Buddy Lookout seat. I love this seat, there is alot of room. My boys are 15lbs and (I think) about 6-7lbs. Here they are. Also, I got mine from petco (on sale, free shipping), and it is on sale again Snoozer Black My Buddy Lookout at PETCO |
The snoozer does look great. The harness keeps them safe too. Great option. |
Schooy and Britster thanks for sharing the pictures. I like the harness and open yet cozy area. |
Bubba and Sissy have the Snoozer in a med and they both fit comfortably. It's black quilted on the outside and tan on the inside. |
I think you guys have me convinced to go with the Snoozer. I think I'll get one medium and one small to keep two babies in the medium and one in the small. This way, when I only have one with me, I can just use the small one. Thanks!! |
1 Attachment(s) We also have the snoozer outlook in black. It cover is removable and washable, Jersey does get car sick, it's so easy to take off and throw in the wash. The pic isn't that great but you can see how cozy it is |

I like the Solvit bc it is much more budget friendly, and takes less space when you are not using it. I sell Solvit, and am also awaiting my Snoozer account to open too, so for all YT members who aren't in a terrible hurry to get one, I offer 10% off. |
I have the Snoozer, size small, in black for Levi. I never thought I would get him transitioned to the car seat, but he really does like it. It is really soft and cozy. His fur-cousin Dallas that we live with is super jealous of the seat and is always napping in it when we bring it in from the car. |

My main concern is getting a seat to fit both my boys (9# & 10#) and to have it for the back seat of my truck. It has head rests and shoulder belts, but I'd rather have one that rests on the seat. What brand would y'all suggest? I'm putting a bug in DH's ear for Christmas!:D |
Dog Car Safety Restraint Seat Belt Harness 7-15" Chest Pink Camo - eBay (item 350373860862 end time Dec-10-10 18:01:03 PST) I paid way more for it in the pet boutique, I'm looking for everything on eBay now! Keeps them safely restrained in the car during an accident or just from running around and falling off seats-also it's multifunctional as a regular harness for walks...the leash clips on the same D-ring the seat belt attachment does-both can be clipped on and off (P.S. I put my dog's ID tags on the D-ring too). Car sickness-Pepto and Mellow Mut-yes the pink stuff we use-ask your vet for dosage here's the Mellow Mut link http://www.dogswell.com/mellow_mut/chicken_breast_jerky |
Has anyone tried the console seats? They can be next to you, but still strapped in. Do you think they would be ok with the airbags? |
We have the Pet Gear booster seats as well. We haven't been using them though lately because a dog on another forum I frequent passed away while riding in one (during an accident). We are currently using these bags Original Sherpa Carrier Medium - Airline Approved Pet Carriers in brown and pink. |

We did. It was a pain in the rear to install and then it slid around when you turned. We returned it. |
I also have the Snoozer My Buddy Lookout seat in Large. Its plenty large for both of mine. I have it in my back seat. You seat belt it into your seats and it comes with 2 straps you clip to their halters to restrain them in the seat. The only problem with it is Finnigan wants to be in your lap and he whines and whines wanting out of it. Gwenni has pretty bad car sickness and I think it has helped somewhat with the car sickness but we still have to pre-treat her before we go anywhere. |
My Snoozers Came on Saturday! I got my Snoozers - I got one medium and one small. I think I may exchange the medium and just get two more smalls. They seemed comfy and Teddy was not as car sick in it. Here is a very short video clip of my babies in their seats. As you can tell, they rubbed their heads in the snoozers as soon as we got in the car and their bows are a disaster! |
